I first saw this article on IMDB and now I've found the source:
http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article1453926.ece
The British tablod The Sun claims Bale assaulted his mother and sister on Sunday. Now, the first thing you need to know about The Sun is that it is the vilest tabloid of all - they are fined every year for articles that turn out to be false. Of course I cannot be 100% that The Sun made this story up but you need to take it with a pinch of salt - espcially since they were the ones who broke the "news". I sense a smear campaign against Bale...

Precicely. While some argue any press is good press, cock shots to ones family is never a cool deal. I hope it's wrong and that the Sun get fined for this, followed by Bale as Batman confronting the "reporter" somehwat similar to Honk Kong in tdk.

Yeah, at the dawn of a huge success with his name splattered all over it, it's natural a few cunts will want to take filthy advantage of it. Bale is supposed to be a pretty relaxed and good guy. I personally don't believe this article and would be very surprised if it turned out to be true.
I hope he goes Patrick Bateman on their asses.

Report: 'Batman' accused of assaulting mom, sister
By RAPHAEL G. SATTER, Associated Press Writer 3 minutes ago
Batman star Christian Bale was arrested Tuesday over allegations of assault, British media reported.
British media had reported that Bale's mother and sister complained they were assaulted by the 34-year-old actor at the Dorchester Hotel in London on Sunday night, a day before the European premiere of his latest film, "The Dark Knight."
The women made the allegation at a local police station in southern England on Monday, Britain's Press Association news agency said. It later said Bale had been arrested, citing "police sources."
Asked whether Bale was in custody, a police spokesman did not refer to him by name but said: "A 34-year-old man attended a central London police station this morning by appointment and was arrested in connection with an allegation of assault."
The spokesman spoke anonymously in line with force policy and refused to go into more detail. British police do not name suspects before they are formally charged.
U.S.-based representatives for Bale didn't immediately return messages seeking comment. Repeated phone calls to Bale's London representative went unanswered.
The Sun newspaper said police didn't question the actor Monday because they didn't want to interfere with the premiere of the movie.
Wales-born Bale first made a splash as the child star of Steven Spielberg's "Empire of the Sun" in 1987. His screen credits also include "American Psycho," "The Machinist" and "Batman Begins."
In "The Dark Knight," Bale reprises the role of wealthy playboy Bruce Wayne and his crime-fighting alter-ego Batman, a brooding vigilante superhero still scarred by the murder of his parents.
The film, which stars the late Heath Ledger as Batman's nemesis The Joker, took in a record $158.4 million at the box office in its opening weekend in the U.S. last week.

Batman actor Christian Bale has been arrested in connection with an allegation of assault.

Christian Bale, who plays Batman in The Dark Knight, has been arrested over allegations of assault
Bale, 34, attended a police station after it was reported his mother and sister had reported him to police.
The alleged incident was believed to have taken place on Sunday night at Park Lane's Dorchester Hotel where Bale is staying.
His mother Jenny, 61, and sister Sharon, 40, are said to have gone to a police station in Hampshire to make the allegation, which was subsequently referred to the Metropolitan Police.
A Met Police spokesman said: "A 34-year-old man attended a London Police Station on Tuesday by appointment and was arrested in connection with an allegation of assault.
"He currently remains in custody."
Despite the alleged incident and report, Bale was allowed to attend the first European screening of the new Batman blockbuster The Dark Knight in London's West End on Monday night uninterrupted.
Bale was joined on the red carpet by Maggie Gyllenhaal, who plays love interest Rachel Dawes, and Sir Michael Caine who plays Bruce Wayne's faithful butler and father figure Alfred.
The film took a record $158.3 million in its opening weekend at the US box office overtaking Spiderman 3, which took £151.1 million.
Interest in the film has increased because of the death of Heath Ledger.
His performance as Batman's arch nemesis The Joker, has been widely tipped by critics, as well as Caine, to receive a posthumous Oscar.

He's never even starred in a kid-accessible movie, has he?
Why are people acting so ashamed in this man anyways for unconfirmed reports of assault? I'm disgusted by this moral hypocrisy. Magazines and its fans insult celebrities over littering, accidentally parking in a handicap space, or expressing their religious and political views, even though all of these "oh so sinfuls" are things everyday people do without the public's damnation. And this situation of Bale's is the same thing. He didn't even break his one rule.
The peanut gallery was just as mad after that Adam Baldwin phone recording...even though everybody refers to their daughters as pigs almost daily (probably as "whore" and "slut" too), making the public and their silly ethical outcry moot. It's time to stop this judgmental mindset. Where will it end? I worry over the day celebrities will be crucified for beating their spouses, murdering strangers, or destroying third world countries.
In related news, batman might very well be corruptible after all.
...and maybe this isn't a proper subject for me to kid around with. Because whatever happened, it's a bummer that an actor in the spotlight was put in jail, and it's a bummer that his mother and sister felt the need to report something to police. Regardless of the facts or fictions, the whole situation is surely embarrassing or painful for everyone involved. I hope it gets resolved quickly and relatively painlessly.

I guess Newsies and Little Women (kinda) but he is the batman. I remember an interview with him where he said he knew he was Batman when a kid came up to him and told him he was his hero. He probably wouldn't be as much of one as, say Spider-Man or Superman, but kids listen to these things.

Well, I don't want to overstate anything, but kids can watch the Batman movies, enjoy them, and love the actor playing Batman... without even noticing the gossip or trespasses of his personal life. I can't picture an 8 year-old sitting there watching CNN with his Batman stuffed toy, and seeing "Bale arrested for alleged assault!" on the ticker-tape. One of the most wonderful ways that movies affect people is by showing strong, lawful idols like batman or spiderman to kids, and I (rather hopefully) assume that kids young enough to have these types of idols aren't old enough to let those idols be broken down by newspapers and Yahoo! articles.
This isn't exactly solving world hunger, but it's a nice thought.

The tabloids are bullshit and the people in the media who write them need to pull the cocks out of their asses. Something happens and these jerk-offs blow it out of proportion cause they have nothing better to write about. If TDK hadn't come out, these guys might not even be writing about this since they'd still be busy digging stuff up on Lohan and Spears.

I can see the scenario, they gave him an ultimatum and if he didn't comply they would go to the cops. I might be completely off target but if you watch Bale at the UK premiere after the alleged "assault" he appears to be his calm, cool self and not like a nut-job.

Christian Bale's attorneys released a statement Tuesday denying assault allegations that led to the actor's arrest in London:
"Christian Bale attended a London police station today, on a voluntary basis, in order to assist with an allegation that had been made against him to the police by his mother and sister," the star's lawyers said in the statement. "Mr. Bale who denies the allegation, co-operated throughout, gave his account in full of the events in question, and has left the station without any charge being made against him by the police. At this time, there will be no further comment by Mr. Bale."
So its cleared up. Some are saying it was verbal assault. I kinda feel bad for him now to be honest, that doesn't mean i don't also feel bad for his mother and sister, but it seems like a hell of a situation.
If he layed a hand on either of them they probobly wouldn't let him go so soon.

Absolutely - especially if the party at the end of the verbal abuse thinks there is a threat involved - then yes you can go to the cops and file a report. I did some legal filing for Sussex police in the UK for a while and you can't believe the shit that people are willing to report - "He called me a cunt! That means he will cut my throat". Swear to God...
A friend of mine lost his cool towards his ex-girlfriend awhile ago: a crack ho who is severely neglecting their two year old son ( I am NOT exagurating here: crack ho that severely neglects their kid). He got verbal with her, she called the cops, now he is on a 5 year parole for 'abuse'..

Since everyone's is wondering why Bale wasn't questioned until after the premiere:
"According to reports, authorities did not attempt to arrest the star until after the high-profile event because they were certain Bale would not flee the country to resist arrest, adding that the lack of severity in the case did not warrant an immediate response."

Jesus, a little decorum wouldn't go amiss! It's hardly surprising you have issues with your 'whores'.
Glad this matter appears to be resolved. Sounds like there's no love lost between these particular Bales.
I love how a lot of these "scandals" really bring out the neurosis and issues of the members than the actual topic at hand. It's like people can't wait to let the pent up stuff in their head spill out all over the keyboard for any little reason.
Probably why I don't frequent this section as often. I get more of a laugh from the replies than the actual subject of the thread. But I too am happy this was nothing more than bullshit.

Guys, if he hit them he would be charged for assault AND battery. In British law battery implies physical contact. Assault most likely means that he shouted at them. People are way too quick to make assumptions these days.

"Is Christian Bale gonna have to choke a bitch?"
No. But we all go a little mad sometimes... Oops, wrong movie.
The answer to your confusion: I'm an unfunny person who makes a lot of jokes nobody can tell are jokes because they aren't funny. I was kidding.
If it helps to illustrate my unique humor-dysfunction, think of me as a John McCain-type. "So! I stopped beating my wife today..."
Or, if you aren't into American politics, think of me as a Joker sort, since we're making a lot of Batman references today. "Watch me make this pencil disappear!"
...oh, and at least this whole thing with Bale wasn't as serious as I thought.
What the hell?! John McCain? The dude from Die Hard? (You're not the only unfunny one.)

If somebody played Bloodhound Gang in my presence, I'd slap them round the chops. Not because it's misogynistic bullshit, but because it's absolutely tuneless inane offal devoid of any musical or artistic merit.

Here's an apropo question:
What the fuck are you doing seeking these women out? Apparently you've got a resume full of them giving you the experience to sort out a gaggle of them from the fray. And no they don't just happen to fall into your life. You're either born of one or you seek their company for some deep-rooted Freudian issues.

I'm sorry but respect should always be earned, it shouldn't be handed out like candy simply because a person happens to fit certain gender criteria. I'm met many women who deserve NO respect and I've met many men who deserve NO respect. Decent individuals deserve respect regardless of their sex.

Thank you, you phrased it much better than I did. Regardless of any way you look at it (for the most part), women get more respect than men wherever you go . It's the way the world works, and I am supportive of it. Quoted for truth. I know where Moviefan's coming from here. I get a lot of flack from my guy friends/brothers for being chivalrous towards my girl (I always open the door for her, front the bill as much as I can), but that's my nature as well: she deserves the respect and common courtesy.
Now, as far as the Bale thing--it looks like it was nothing after all. I knew the moment I heard it that he'd A) be out in a few hours and B) that it'd be some misunderstanding. From the looks of it, it seems to have been nothing more than a shouting match.

Ive also had great relationships that have ended due to relocating... and im still cool with basically all of the females ive dated and come in contact with... except for 2... and i agree... the chicks i have dated have been FAR out of my league, and sometimes when you date a chick who is a former model, and a former anorexic, and a jesus freak (which i am not)(and thats all 1 girl).. you are going to get some weird situations out of that relationship!!
so wherever this shit storm came from on me... if you all could clear that up for me.. i'd be much obliged, thanks

In that situation, if she didnt want to listen to it.. she could have said so, trust me, she was the type of chick that would have said something if she didnt like it!

Just heard on the radio that Bale was released almost immediately, and that the charge was VERBAL assault. Apparently Bale has had little contact with his mother and sister after his parents got divorced. Wouldn't surprise me a bit if they were trying to squeeze him for money...
I can see the scenario, they gave him an ultimatum and if he didn't comply they would go to the cops. I might be completely off target but if you watch Bale at the UK premiere after the alleged "assault" he appears to be his calm, cool self and not like a nut-job.

Oh god... I'm sure that bitch was trying spin Bale into some monster.
The only problem with this whole thing is that if it were Bale vs. his father and brother it wouldn't have been as much of a "shock". But "oh no!", Bale was yelling at his mother and sister... What the fuck?! Women are people too, they are just as capable as men to get in an argument or piss someone off. I try to live my life without building gender barriers and it pisses me off that it always has to be man vs. woman. And I find my outlook on gender to be very beneficial in social interactions... you don't make assumptions and you don't find yourself, or the other, "in authority".
And although we don't know the details of this situation, why does it have to be "Big Bad Bale beats his mommy and sissy"??? How do we not know those two teamed up and antagonized and argued with Bale until he snapped?? And not snapped as in becoming violent and "abusive" but just stood up for himself and gave them a piece of his mind??
I've had arguments with my mother that (if that was the only time you saw us together) would make it look like we would never speak to each other ever again; but we make up and love each other. I find it funny that while several other details seem to have come out, The Early Show this morning covered the story almost as breaking news - with the fabulous headline of "BATMAN BUSTED" and the puntastic opening line: "Actor Christian Bale has posted bail..." (hey they stole somebody's joke! :D)
CBS is so clever, hahaha...
Anyway, I even thought to myself when I first heard this, "I wonder if there was an argument that a neighbor reported."
And the guy they were interviewing this morning (I don't remember who he was or why he was somehow related to this story) kept wanting to compare Bale to Batman, and how "this is a terrible blow to The Dark Knight's PR machine." And I'm just thinking, WTF DOES THAT MEAN? 1. Bale is not Batman, he PLAYS Batman. You know, like an actor? Yeah, I KNOW, big shock, Batman's not a real person. Weird! 2. It mostly sounds like nothing that is being blown up into something to yes, cash-in on TDK Mania. 3. Sounds like Bale was not charged with anything, nor did he post bail. Way to get the facts straight. 4. "The Dark Knight PR Machine" has pretty much ran its course, hasn't it? All the viral marketing, all the hype, everything... the movie has already opened! What a dumbass.
I hope it's all untrue and that Bale holds a press conference and gives the media a Batman judo chop to the nuts.
If it is true, then I'll lose some respect for him, but I'll still watch his movies.

According to TMZ, apparently Bale lost his temper on the set of Terminator 4.
Christian Bale was one giant raw nerve just days before he allegedly pushed his mother.
TMZ spies tell us Bale was on the set last Friday shooting "Terminator 4" at Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico.
During a scene, Shane Hurlbut (seriously), director of cinematography, screwed up a shot -- at least in Christian's mind. We're told Bale went ballistic, screaming "I will kick your ass" along with other choice remarks. Several hundred people heard the outburst -- including Military Police -- which was described as "intense."
We're told Bale was "extremely tired and having a bad day."

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/celebritynews/2445620/Batman-actor-Christian-Bale-released-after-assault-allegation-arrest.html
However there seems to be very hard feelings among the family members as Christian was the only one at his father's death bed (his parents split in 1991).

We still don't know what exactly went down but the fucking media here in Europe all make it look like Bale beat the crap out of his mother and sister. They are really out to get him and that pisses me off. They have no more information about the case than we do here at the board.
Fuck the media - if Bale is guilty as "charged" I'll eat a bath-tub full of shit but if the whole thing turns out to be nothing more than a domestic non-violent argument, then the fucking media better apologize in bold letters. The man's career should not be destroyed because it is good copy...

Agreed. I can't say anything bad about Bale and do you know why? He name isn't on magazine covers every week and this is the first thing I've heard about him in this fashion. He seems to know how keep his personal affairs separate from his business life.
It really sucks to see a guy you've respected for many years (American Pyscho was one of the key films early in my discovery of film) suddenly cast into the spotlight and immediately have negative attention thrown at him. Especially because of people that don't even seem to be a major part of his life. (I'm going by what I've read and heard)
Bale seems truly beyond tabloid chasing. I hope that he doesn't let it get to him so he can continue to make great movies without people seeing no difference between the actor and the character he plays.

I wanted to add one more thing.
With everything going on with this guy work wise, I wouldn't mind seeing him take a little break.
He's got two Batman films under his belt since 2005 plus other films in between. He's filming a Terminator movie and is apparently signed on for two more in that series plus possible a third Batman film. The dude is a workaholic and I'd hate to see tabloids add any more stress.
Add to that he lost a good friend while filming The Dark Knight, his biggest film to date.

Sounds like a typical family scrap with the added benefit of celebrity and fortune thrown in. Now having a mother-in-law and sis-in-law that are catty gold diggers myself I can only imagine the nonsense possible when you are a rising Hollywood star. No one knows the Bale family dynamic for sure so I'll just wait to hear from Bale himself. do any of you guys find yourselves defending Bale to other people?
I was in my college class and someone brought up how Bale assaulted his family. I quickly stepped in and was like... "ah' hemm... Assault is a harsh way to describe this scenerio. His mom asked for $200,000 dollars from Christian Bale, and Bale went off on his mom verbally." I went on to say, "there was no physical assault and Bale is no bad guy here"
I'm only taking my info from the TV shows (access hollywood) but I find it funny how I'm quick to defend Bale because he's finally getting noticed by a lot of people and I don't want his image tarnished.

I have a problem with Bale.
Let me start by saying I love him as actor. LOVE him. He and Clooney are my favourite actors alive today. However something about him has bugged me for a while. I don't really know what it is. I don't dis like him or anything and I don't have any specific problem with him but I can't help but think sometimes that something feels a little off. Then saying that, there have been other times (most of the time really)where he has come across like a complete gentleman.
But there are little moments that bug me. For instance he was on British TV this last week or maybe two now and they said so you're from Wales you're a Tafffy? And he reacted very oddly to it I thought. He was like no I am English I don't like to be known as Welsh. I thought the answer was a little strange in itself but ok some people are born in one country but feel like they are another nationality if they move at a young age. But it was his tone an attitude. Just seemed a strange reaction.
I don't know perhaps he had been flat out and was just grouchy. I do genuinely like the man but sometimes there's just something that feels off. I'm not contributing this to anything to do with the assault charge. That looks like bullshit thankfully I just brought it up because we were discussing Bale like.
But on another note i'm just gutted that both my sisters are taken. Because it would be a joy to introduce them to SKynet. You just would wouldn't you?

Isn't being Welsh some sort of tricky issue over on your side of the Pond? The Brits have had a pretty tricky issue with their neighbors for centuries; the Welsh being one of them. I know for quite sometime it was considered a political statement for the people of Wales to teach their children Welsh.
Kind of in the same vein of how the Polish people have been sleighted and prejudiced for quite a long time, so you had a period, and still have a few pockets of people, who would deny being Polish.

I think he's an elitist , he's no doubt arrogant , but he has the talent to back it up , so it doesn't matter , you have to have that edge if you want to become as successful as he has and if you want to play the parts he has taken on .
This matter has been taken to extremes because of his celebrity , and i fully expect more incidents of this nature to occur . They will be looking for anything to write about him now , but he sought the limelight , so he should have expected this . If he sneezes a certain way , the papps will find a way to sensationalize it .
We're a party to this nonsense because we become obsessed with celebrities and want to know everything about them , we don't want to know our idols get pissed off sometimes or that they are fallible like anyone else , like they are some demi god or something .
Bale is just a guy with talent who makes movies , let's not make him more than he is . Whatever happened in that hotel room will come out eventually , and if he did physically assault his kin than he will pay either with a conviction or a public relations black eye or both .

There has always been issues with the neighbours over here. Hence the wars and continual (even to this day) rivalry between the countries. But never does it cause problems with how you feel about where you come from. Wales is sometimes looked upon as the poor relation due to it's size and wealth compare to say England and Scotland. However this just makes the Welsh people even more fiercely proud of where they come from.
Although English people seem to have a far greater problem with the Welsh than the other way around so I don't know if that's why Bale reacted like that. Is parents are English and he moved and lived there aged 2 so....
I think with the Polish thing. It may be down to the fact that the Jews that survived the war and the concentration camps were murdered by Polish people when they returned home either through hate or fear. That being until the Russians stopped the killing. I think that and other horror stories about the war is why the stigma about Polish people still lingers. Poland is a strange country. I go there often especially to Krakow and the Jewish area of that city is a very scary place to be. The atmosphere in the city is palpable on times. The Jewish quarter is full ironically enough of Nazi Neo skin heads. Irony know no bounds it would seem.
The only thing that irks me about Bale is sometimes he comes off as a little too intense; a little too serious. (<---- NO JOKER QUOTES!)
