I way blown away by Iron Man. Just about my favorite movie of the year. Robert Downey Jr. was amazing. Loved the nuances of his character and his relationship with Pepper Pott. Can't wait for the next one!

It's still my #1 movie of the year as well and my only 10/10 rating.

Here's a deleted scene that will be on the DVD...

I hate buying the same movie for different giveaways, but I'm torn between the best buy set w/bust and the target helmet. I'm leaning more towards the helmet..since it'll look cool sitting on my shelf next to my bobblehead, which is kinda similar to the bust best buy is giving away. Ahh..

I thought it was good, but not great. I enjoyed Hellboy II and The Dark Knight more. Definately better than some of the superhero movies in the past, and one of the only ones where I'm looking forward to the sequel.

it was alright

I didnt understand the hype when I seen it, kind of boring throughout and the tired old cliches killed it for me. Robert Downey just didn't fit the role at all

the movie was kinda of a joke IMO. Some of the action was great but the whole end scene was retarded

6/10 IMO

Totally agree. Good popcorn flick but nothing really special. The whole second half just seemed really rushed and the end fight scene was pretty lame.

Great movie. Great acting, directing, action, and the best origin story next to Batman Begin.

I didn't like it much as a kid, but I at least was amused by some of it. Nowadays, I just think it's terrible.

I just saw it yesterday. I was surprised that I liked it. I thought the pacing was really good, the acting was excellent and the story was decent with just enough action. I've been really impressed with the recent super hero films made recently.

I give this a 7 or so, and all because of RDJ... The superhero aspects of this film are lacking. Not enough action. A forgettable villain. Crappy cast (aside from RDJ and Bridges).

Hopefully the sequel or Avengers spinoff is better.

I loved this film. Robert Downey, Jr. can do no wrong. It had a lot of effective humor, an origin story worth watching, and action that actually kept my interest. Most action scenes these days are exercises in redundancy; we get it, the director can put pretty images up on the screen. I usually don't feel anything except bored when watching that kind of stuff now. Jon Favreau took things to a different level here. It's a popcorn flick, sure, but a damn good one.

I blind bought this one online (and for some reason, it arrived on Friday, Sept 26) and I was really underwhelmed by it. After loving The Dark Knight so much, and having a liking for Robert Downey, Jr., I decided to put my typical dislike for superhero movies aside and give it a try.

The special effects were pretty cool, RDJ was excellent, and it had its moments, but overall I found it to be tired and predictable. Even having never read an Iron Man comic in my life and knowing virtually nothing of the story beforehand, I knew right away what was going to happen.

5/10

I enjoyed it. I was IMing with someone and they told me of the scene after the credits. I watched it and eyes were moist with geeky tears.

Anyway, good movie. I didn't expect to like Tony Stark in the film version as I fuckin' hate the comic book. :p

First go round at the theatre i loved this badboy to death. Rewatched it twice on bluray and i don't know what it is, but something about it just doesnt thrill me anymore. Maybe it's because first time around your seeing the thrill of Iron Man being adapted greatly to film, but once you get over that, other than RDJ, Bridges and cool suits, it's just lacking for me. Still one of my faves over the year, though.

i feel like Iron Man really benefited from being the first summer movie out of the gate. seems like everyone was so excited for a big movie that they just heaped all of this praise on it. sure, it was fun and RDJ gave a good performance but overall it wasn't anything special.

I agree with sentiments that Iron Man benefited from being the first Summer tentpole movie out the gate. After the first half of the year was filled with remenants of 2007's Oscar season movies (that come out a little later over here than they do in the US, sometimes a few months' delay) and some dead time, it had been quite a while since I saw a big-budget Summer action-adventure movie, and this one really hit the spot. Robert Downey, Jr. totally carried the movie with his charisma and charm, and delivered a truly hilarious and scene-stealing performance. The movie itself was a very enjoyable ride, delivering a good balance of ridiculous super-hero things and a more down-to-earth, realistic depiction of them. Action set pieces were enjoyable, effects work was a great mix of practical and CGI effects, and in all it was just very enjoyable, not too heavy-handed, very light-hearted and just plain fun. It's no masterpiece, though, that's for sure.

7/10.

I enjoyed Iron Man though i don't think as much as most schmoes. It was a very predictable film and some of the effects were awful. Most annoyingly was how staggeringly cliche Jeff Bridges became once he got his own suit, and how the last 30 minutes felt like a Transformers movie.

2008 has been a movie-goers dream. Indy returned, Hulk smashed, Batman went dark, Wall-E charmed, and they even threw in a Star Wars flick just to make this blockbuster summer official. But as for the first of these mid-year attractions, Iron Man started the ball rolling nicely. A shining performance for a film that I honestly thought would not deliver. C'mon, you know the drill - hype a movie...excite the fans...release garbage. It's a process that's happened so many times, I expect it instinctively. But this time, my instincts were wrong.

Here is my review. It's divided into 6 critique areas. It will contain no spoilers.

INTRO: This film begins with an unnecessary "premonition", which ineffectively mirrors Mission Impossible in revealing the future. I liked it in MI because it added wonder to the story, but the way they chose to do it here doesn't change anything. The movie just started ahead of itself, then went back and played from the actual beginning. With seemingly no purpose for this, I didn't get it. I'm not saying I didn't like the sequence, the screen time was used well actually - It introduced you to the person of Tony Stark and began the rising action, but it just seemed redundant. We get to this part AGAIN 10 minutes later (you could have been late, and not missed a thing), what's the point? It accomplishes the same things, except now, we're seeing it for the 2nd time. But fortunately, this small infraction doesn't ruin things.

PLOT/PACING: A generic plot with a predictable twist. It may sound dull, but the entertaining part was actually watching it. All the familiar elements come together to make this basic story very enjoyable. There were no heavy plot points to weigh on your mind, no symbolic themes to discover and analyze, or fast exposition that makes it difficult to follow. A good director knows: Simplicity is sometimes the best choice. Give our protagonist a problem, show him how to fix it, throw a bad guy in there, and watch how it plays out. It doesn't take a masters in composition to put a plot together, just some brains. I actually surprised myself for liking this. I'm usually of the smart story-line variety, but this film says that you don't need all that to have a good time at the theater, and that's what we're all there for right?

ACTION: Comedy and action is a difficult genre combo to pull off well. The two seemingly just don't mix. How can you portray the intensity of an action scene when you are simultaneously trying to humor the audience? It felt weird during Fantastic Four, and I've never quite adapted to this new-age fusion. But, Iron Man does a great job. High-dollar technology and sarcasm is a perfect hybrid for fun. Our writers combine great aerial chases and fierce ground assaults with Tony Stark's wicked tongue (and he just keeps the laughs rolling). This is what Transformers was going for, but they missed the mark entirely. The balance (in this unorthodox union) is not to be stupid, but to allow adults and kids alike to have a great time. And when you're mind is stimulated with a good story, you're laughing from good humor, and your eyes light up during the fireworks displays, how could you NOT have fun?

CHARACTERS: The spark that brought this very basic story-line to life was our main character. Tony Stark lit up the screen. Funny, bold, cavalier, intelligent, charming...he's great. And the suit...well it's just AWESOME. It's also good how the designers worked in the architecture of the suit with Stark's personality. It actually LOOKS like him. The times when he wasn't his iron alter ego, he and Pepper had a nice chemistry. She instantly catches your fancy and the rare moments when they share important dialogue is like bitter-sweet agony. Our villain is a standard bad guy with standard motives - money and power. But all is well, because you won't be watching this film for him.

CONCLUSION: Yep, you guessed it...another showdown. But at least the tide of victory swung back and forth a couple times, and there were outside forces at work that kept the battle suspensful. Also, our path to the showdown didn't feel forced, but rightly seemed the consequence of multiple actions from several characters. Strangely though, Iron Man is scripted to take a hefty beating here. The same thing was done in Spider-man 1, where Green Goblin just humiliates Spidey at the end. We don't want to see our heros get demolished, why do these writers do that? Here's the problem: These scenes are choreographed to seem "real and unbiased". But let's not forget, this is a COMIC-BOOK movie anyway...some of your realism is compromised regardless. It would be better to just stay true to these characters' origins and let them clean house (no one would have an issue with this). Lastly, Tony Stark ends with a good laugh, and the audience watches the ending credits with smiles on their faces.

SYNOPSIS: Iron Man employs story elements that we've seen before, but the key is that they're done well. It doesn't falter, leave you disappointed, or let down. The audience NEVER stops having a good time. And as much as critics may praise profound messages and deep literary themes in film, it's my previous statement that ultimately matters most. I give this movie a GOOD rating.

Iron Man is solid gold. Good action that you can share with the whole family is hard to find, but this picture delivers it. With a great humor and high replay value, I can see this one hogging the disc tray for months to come...

This movie was freaking fantastic! I re-watched it again in my home, and it still rocked the house! Its a pitch perfect comic book movie. Tony Stark is just such a bad ass, his got all the money in the world and he doesnt mind showing off. Big cars, sexy chics, expensive toys!

What I liked most about was the balance between not being childish, but still, not loosing that sense of wonder and coolness of seeing a dude in a cool robot armor flying through the skies and kicking evil robot ass. BAsically, I loved the fact that it wasnt aimed at kids at all.

Great action, great effects....I literally got no complaints for this movie!
