I know there is a post about animal abuse, but I could not find it.

"In what should come as a shock to absolutely no one, PETA announced that it is upset with The Dark Knight because of a short scene in which Batman beats a few dogs in self-defense. PETA obviously has nothing better to complain about.

But to really show Batman the error of his ways, the animal rights organization removed him from its list of Top 10 Animal-Friendly Superheroes. Ouch. There’s also some great lines in the rant: “They didn’t need to make Batman into a dogphobic man!” True poetry. Then PETA asks, “Doesn’t the man with the James Bond gadgets know anything about peanut butter treats and deflecting devices?” Um, PETA? Did you even see the movie or are you simply unaware of how dumb you sound?

Like the rest of the entire world, I went and saw The Dark Knight this weekend, and also like the rest of the entire world, I was impressed with this darker take on the Batman mythos. I’m all for having Heath Ledger win the Oscar, and my superhero-comic-loving-nerd-patrol side could gush for hours about the intensity of this movie. But my animal-protector soul had a serious problem with a few scenes. Batman beats dogs—who knew?? P’shaw! And to think we gave him a spot on our coveted Top 10 Animal-Friendly Superhero list!

While I love that The Dark Knight lived up to its name by exploring the noiresque Frank Miller-inspired themes of Gotham’s protector, they didn’t need to make Batman into a dogphobic man! Batman is an icon, a superhero genius that beats up gun-toting thugs using only his iron fist of justice—KA-POW! He looks damn good in pleather while owning the streets, yet in The Dark Knight, he was punching out dogs left and right. Sure, it was self-defense, but doesn’t the man with the James Bond gadgets know anything about peanut butter treats and deflecting devices?

Because of this serious misstep for what’s otherwise a masterpiece, we’ve decided to take all the write-in votes for Hellboy seriously, knock our batvocate pal off the list, and replace him with the kitten-cuddling man in red."

So if I was attacked by a horde of rottweilers intent on my mortality...peanut butter treats? Hell he just tossed them aside, I would've shottied their misbehaving canine asses.

What's worst than that though is when Joker first starts beating down with the pipe. The dog was still clearly on Bat's chest. Joker was hitting EVERYTHING.

PETA is a bunch of uptight pricks. I do not condone animal cruelty, but come on in a movie where he attacks 100 times more people, why are they complaining about the damn dogs. It is not like they actually hurt the dogs.

What I want to know is what these PETA advocates would do if they were attacked in the same manner Batman was?

Do they carry around dog treats just in case something like that happens? Even if they did, do you honestly think angry, vicious, dogs like that would give a crap? They'd enjoy the treat after they bite your hand off.

I'm not the type of guy who goes around kicking puppies, but if I'm ever attacked by an angry dog I'm going to do everything in my power to get the dog off of me and make sure it doesn't attack me again. If that means hurting it, so be it.

Seriously, would those advocates allow themselves to get mauled so as to not hurt the dogs, or would they defend themselves?

If it's the former, they're morons, if it's the later, they're hypocrites.

Now, for no reason whatsoever, here's a photo of Patricia Heaton ...

OMG! PETA needs to get a life! It's not real! It's a freaking movie for god's sake. I would have done the same thing if those dogs were attacking me. They were trained killing dogs. Pounds put down dogs all the time, and a lot are aggressive dogs. So why PETA is bitching I don't understand. For god's sake, The Joker was trying to beat Batman to death, and he was trying to get the dogs off him so he could fight The Joker, and not be beat to death. Peta are ridiculous. They put animal lives before humans, and its getting out of hand.

I hate PETA and therefore by default, anybody who supports and or has donated to them.

One of the few groups I attach my dislike to their supporters for.

They are sick and twisted and actually value animal life over human.

There's people who wish to protect animals from abuse and then there's PETA.

A top ten list of animal friendly super heroes? Maybe they should write for Letterman.

What's funny is why they don't take issue with animal control, which forced to put to sleep many dogs due to them being trained to kill and being unleashed on innocent people. I mean, something that's really happening.

You know, I support animals rights and am a vegetarian. I believe animals should be treated with kindness and respect, but PETA is a bunch of hypocritical motherfuckers who care only about getting their name in the media. Don't get me wrong, I support animals rights groups, but PETA give the entire movement a bad name. Even other organizations have spoken out about PETA's hypocrisy (they've been known to kill the same animals they claim to protect) and bad tactics.

Batman was not randomly beating some poor defenseless puppy. He was fighting off trained attack dogs and when any dog has its mind set on attack, no peanut butter treat is going to stop it. Get real, PETA.

Those weren't even real dogs. For the action scenes, they replace the animals with fake ones. It's a safety issue, for the actors and also for the animals.

I'm well aware of that, as is PETA.

That's not the issue. PETA's concern is that we have a heroic figure in a film who is hurting animals. PETA feels that it's going to send message that hurting animals is okay. My argument is that Batman is not shown being truly cruel to those dogs, he is shown simply defending himself from them. If he was shown pulling out a peanut butter treat instead, it wouldn't be at all believable because dogs don't stop attacking just because you offer a treat. And who the hell carries dog treats on them anyway?

I think the PETA is focusing on the wrong thing. Rather than focus on why Batman beats up the dogs to defend himself, I think PETA would be better served to say that dogs are used for other things than attacking and guarding people. That is still bullshit, but PETA bullshit anyway. They turn more people off by stupid statements like this in the first place.

PETA has a history of such ludicrous complaints and it is a wonder so many celebrities affiliate with them. Here's a sampling:

They complained about TV Survivor contestants eating rats on an island in June 2000. Rats proliferate in great quantity because nature needs to feed all its predators. Those rats were offed more humanely than if by a snake, cat, fox or owl.

In July 2000 they wanted the Green Bay Packers to change their name because it referred to the meat packing industry.

Also attacking those traditional Germanic cultures in 2003 they were pushing beer for Wisconsin's official drink instead of milk. And they didn't stop with Wisconsin, bringing their humorous madness to Florida with their "Got Beer" campaign urging college students to drink beer instead of milk.

The only good thing that radical bunch of fanatics have come up with are all the ads with naked babes who "would rather wear nothing than fur."

(Shhhh! Don't let PETA know that Fox Mulder offs a couple of big toothy dogs that were trying to kill him in X-Files.)

Exactly. There's actually a real ongoing issue in the world with bad guys training dogs to kill or be killed. It's even to the point where we have celebrities involved in such crimes.

I'm not exactly sure that there has ever been anything close to a problem with people brutalizing animals that are trying to kill them. In fact, there are actual cases of this happening - that guy who poked the sharks eye out, as one. Yet those people are treated like quasi-heroes.

I don't think this has been mentioned, but it is obvious that PETA is just getting their name in the press. They are going after what is currently the most talked about movie character in the world, for doing something hardly described as cruelty to animals, instead of dealing with the actual real life abuse.

Do they have a list of the Top 10 Animal Friendly Athletes? I couldn't find one, but am unsure. Of course that would only show more proof of their pointlessness.
