I have never seen The Mummy Returns. However, The Mummy is on either Starz or Encore like once a day and my wife likes it so I have been stuck watching it a lot lately. It is just awful. The one-liners are excruciatingly unfunny, the CGI is dated and bad, it's far too broad and over-the-top, the action pretty by-the-numbers, and it never even attempts to be mysterious or suspenseful. It's dumb from start to finish, lowest common denominator Hollywood entertainment.
That said, I can see myself renting this one. The setting is intriguing and it looks like dumb fun rather than just plain dumb.

I'll wait for dvd for this one. Can't say I'm crazy about the first two films. They're both very average adventure movies, and from what I hear this one is worse than both of them. That said, it will be interesting to see if Jet Li will be exciting as the villain.

This movie looks pretty awesome. It looks even more epic and huge than the first two were (I don't consider The Scorpion King to be a part of this franchise).
It'll be hard to top The Mummy Returns which I loved, but who knows. Looks like a blast!

The first one is slightly better than THE MUMMY RETURNS, but both are excellent films. I highly recommend you giving it a watch if the opportunity presents itself. THE SCORPION KING is fucking horrible though.

Wow, I dont think its that bad. I dont think the CGI is too dated. It looks better than some movies today imo. Bredan Fraiser is perfect in the lead role. The Mummy himself is a good villian. The acting is mostly good, and the story is cool. The humor is mostly spot on and the action is fun.
Perfect popcorn fun.

I just hope it's number one it's opening weekend , instead of you know what ;) .
It does look like silly fun , like the first two , i always enjoyed the second one more , even if the cgi for the scorpion king was dreadful even back then . This one does look more epic than either of the first two , and the addition of Jet Li and MC doesn't hurt at all . I really don't mind that RW didn't come back , it's her loss , just as long as Fraser is in it , that's good enough . His son should be good in this also , better than the pairing of Jones and Mutt :)

Part of me is surprised it's not called Rise of the Dragon Emperor.

I'd probably be more excited over this third Mummy installment if the year was 2004 or even 2005. Although I thoroughly enjoyed The Mummy and The Mummy Returns is huge guilty pleasure of mine, I just can't seem to get excited about Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, despite the addition of Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh. I will miss Rachel Weisz, but I do like Maria Bello, so I guess it's not that big of a deal. Anyway, I'll see the film, but I'm not in a hurry.
BTW, exactly how old is O'Connell's son supposed to be here? The actor who plays his son is 26-27 years old, and Brendan Fraser is only 39. I hope he's at least 18, because Alex O'Connell looked like 10 in Returns. I don't know why I'm breaking my head over this -- it really doesn't matter. :D

David Poland's review of the movie. For what it's worth, AICN's Moriarty backs up Poland's take and says it is indeed awful.
El Mummy Tres Sucks And Sucks Hard
Just when you thought it might be safe to go back to a Rob Cohen movie…
The Uwe Boll of studio film. A man who makes Brett Ratner look like a cinematic intellectual. He brought you Stealth, easily the worst summer movie of 2005… and now, they gave him the Mummy franchise to kill off once and for all.
How bad is The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor? Well, doesn’t the name tell you almost everything you need to know? Close your eyes for a second and try to remember that whole title. Dare you!
How bad is it?
Mario Bello, an excellent actress, gives one of the worst performances of her career and probably the worst work by any actress this summer.
Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh, living legends… barely in the movie.
The movie starts with an 11 minute voice-overed introduction, trying to explain the insanely complicated story for this incredibly simplistic movie.
Universal green lit two summer movies with the same plot… good guys trying to stop bad guys from reviving ancient armies that were put to sleep by some form of hoodoo.
Did I mention that Rob Cohen, who appears on the dance floor at the end of the film, is an epic hack… perhaps the worst working director in the studio game?
And what’s an action movie without the Yeti Protection Program, in which Yetis inexplicably turn up and save various days? Really? And how many times do you think they “look” at the camera and scream like Jurassic Park dinos? Too many.
Cohen, the man who hacked up Dragonheart, even manages to turn one character, out of nowhere, into a flying three headed dragon… then a Muppet-like monster of no specific clarity or origin… and then back to having some really bad skin covering in pottery. Oy.
The movie really does feel like the direct-to-dvd version of The Mummy, complete with cheesy, already-done CG effects, and best of all, not a single actual mummy in the entire movie.
I haven’t seen The Love Guru or Space Chimps, so I can’t be sure, but The Mummy:TotDE seems like it has a real shot at Worst Film Of The Summer awards. It was much worse than Meet Dave or Journey To The Center Of The Earth or The Happening. Really special.
It’s quite a feat that Universal has managed to get the movie just three days away from release without a single review from anyone on RT – pro, civilian, web or print - because I think tonight’s all-media was the first time, aside from the junket, that anyone saw this epic mess.
Ouch.

Stealth is still one of the most underrated of the last few years. The scene when Jessica Biel crashes/falls into North Korea is quite possibly one of the most stunning and spectacular action scenes I've seen of recent years.
xXx, The Fast and the Furious, Daylight. All entertaining action movies. So I've got no problem with Cohen.

Daylight? 7.5

From the trailers for Mummy and Cohens past record of 7/10s...I see no reason to think this is gonna suck..it may..but it looks like fun mindless popcorn done well. Anyone going into these type of films looking for 9 & 10/10s need to readjust themeselves for these type of flicks. Who expects a masterpiece from a Mummy movie? People get so defensive when the bad reviews start pouring in and immediately accuse viewers who didn't like it of expecting too much or not being able to enjoy popcorn movies. Well sure some critics are never going to allow themselves to like a Mummy movie. There will always be people who never even give it a chance. But by and large I don't think disliking a Mummy movie means that you can't appreciate popcorn movies or brainless entertainment. It seems that sometimes assumptions are instantly made when a movie like this gets negative reviews, assumptions that generally are not true.

I quite enjoy the first movie. It's cheesy but fun - really the epitome of a mindless popcorn flick.
The Mummy Returns was lame though. From what I remember, the CGI in Mummy Returns at times is cringeworthy and there are quite a few shots where things just look ridiculously fake.
With the lack of Rachel Weisz, I'd have zero interest in this if it weren't for Jet Li. As it is though, the early bad buzz kills off pretty much all my interest in this.
I am very curious to see how this does though. It's been quite a few years since the last installment and I just don't feel like there's any excitement (even remotely) for this film. It feels like it's gonna tank but then I keep thinking back and realizing I've seen the trailer before a ton of movies in the past few months so at least it seems to have gotten enough exposure for people to be aware of its existence.

I loved Stealth. I think Rob Cohen is a very talented director, but his problem is that he tries too hard to be cool.
It's like he's completely out of touch with what's really cool, so he watches MTV for a few hours and then thinks he knows what cool is.
He's made a surprising amount of entertaining movies: Dragon, Dragonheart, Daylight, The Fast and the Furious, XXX... I've liked them all.
That said, I'm just not really excited for this one. Even by Mummy standards, it looks pretty silly. If this was 2003 I'm sure I'd be all over this.

The purpose of CGI is to look REAL.

This better not be the movie to bump the Dark Knight from #1. At least let it be Tropic Thunder. If it does, I will once again roll my eyes at the general public. The preview looks like shit. I think a 2nd or 3rd viewing of TDK would be more beneficial than seeing this waste of celluloid and money. I swear, everything about this soulless drivel was summed up by Brendan Fraser in the trailer: "Here we go again."
It's going to be funny seeing people tear this down and saying, "Fuck, I shouldn't have seen this..." Or, "It was meant to be stupid! Get off your high horses you snobs!"

It's going to be DAMN close. I have a feeling deep down though, that TDK will pull away by just a few million. I imagine it will have stronger holds on Saturday and Sunday. They will probably make the same on Friday, or The Mummy may make a little bit more, but TDK should have stronger holds over the course of the weekend.
As for which film will beat TDK, it will be Pineapple Express no doubt, which I will be happy with as it will most likely be deserving. I expect Pineapple Express will open with around $35 million or so, and TDK will probably make around $25-30 million that weekend.

I agree with Bourne101, it'll be close. The poor reviews for the 3rd Mummy movie will hurt it as the weekend progress and that's where I think TDK might pull it out. But since Mummy 3 is part of a popular franchise and kids are still out of school will help it in the end (of the weekend).

But Pineapple comes out next Wednesday, not this weekend. Then Tropic Thunder comes out that Friday. I think Tropic looks like it might pull more viewers than Pineapple... it's got Ben Stiller, Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr... all of who carry their own fan base and the trailer looked pretty solid. Pineapple looks like it will do good, but it's riding only on Rogen and Apatow's name as a producer.
I don't know... I really think Downey Jr's role is going to get a lot of interest. He already has people hooked from Iron Man. Plus, Pineapple being a stoner movie might turn off some people.

Roger Ebert gave it 3 stars, which is enough to get me to see it. I love Roger, I feel like he's the least jaded critic of today.
He makes a good point in his review, referencing his review from the first film:
"There is hardly a thing I can say in its favor, except that I was cheered by nearly every minute of it. I cannot argue for the script, the direction, the acting or even the mummy, but I can say that I was not bored and sometimes I was unreasonably pleased. There is a little immaturity stuck away in the crannies of even the most judicious of us, and we should treasure it."

I dunno. I stopped trusting Roger after he came back from his surgery. He must have gained a new found opinion towards films because he gives 3 and 4 stars like nothing now, so I just can't trust him anymore even though I always thought he was a great film critic.

As it was said before, it comes out the Wednesday after Pineapple Express. Pineapple Express will win the weekend of August 8th-10th. Tropic Thunder will win the weekend of August 15th-17th. Simple as that. Pineapple is riding on a hell of a lot more than just Rogen and Apatow. The movie looks flat-out hilarious, and the marketing has been absolutely perfect. Thunder may end up doing better, but both are going to be hits, no doubt.
I don't know... I really think Downey Jr's role is going to get a lot of interest. He already has people hooked from Iron Man. Plus, Pineapple being a stoner movie might turn off some people.
Again, Thunder will win its weekend, but that's a whole week and two days after Pineapple has been released, so there's absolutely no surprise or argument there. Downey will definitely attract a lot of people, and Thunder will probably finish with more than Pineapple, but Pineapple will still probably finish with around $120 million or so. The marketing has been flawless, with green-band trailers, red-band trailers, plenty of TV spots including a few that have raving quotes from the best of critics, all of which include a song that people are seemingly falling in love with.
But let's leave that stuff for the "box-office numbers" thread.

His reviews are always much more helpful to read instead of simply looking at the star ratings. He always supports his opinions and I find even reviews of his I don't agree with to be well written. It's easy at a glance to look and say "oh he hands out 3 and 4 stars like candy". But it's a different story when you look at why he rates them as such.

I was just saying that personally I haven't noticed a change. I never even pay attention to his star ratings, mainly because they aren't prominently displayed on the review pages. Reading his reviews for the previous two Mummy films as well as the third, I'm not sure he's being more lenient. People interpret things differently I guess.

I absolutely love the first Mummy movie. It has magic, adventure, mystery, a great sense of wonder, and pure, true fun. It has always been one of my favorite popcorn movies. Rachel Weisz is lovely, and I just so happen to think that Brendan Fraser is completely awesome.
The second film retained some of what made the first so enjoyable, but it also felt like a larger, more overblown version of the same thing. I liked it, but only just.
Here we are 7 years later, with a new Mummy film. A new director, a new female lead (playing the same character), a new land (China replaces Egypt), and a new, high profile villain. And, for the most part, it sucks. There is a wealth of incredibly stupid and nonsensical shit in this movie. Brendan Fraser is awesome as per usual, and John Hannah gets to yell a lot and do funny stuff, but Maria Bello and Luke Ford are terrible. The plot makes absolutely no sense and has nothing wondrous or magical about it. There is a truly stupefying scene about halfway through involving Yeti that was awesome in its stupidity. If that's what they were going for, I guess they succeeded. Granted Rob Cohen and his team know how to design a set piece, but he doesn't know how to shoot it, and while there is a lot of it on display the CG is no better (if not worse, or at least cheesier) than it was in the original almost ten years ago. There is some hilarious tongue-in-cheek humor towards the beginning of the film and for a while I thought things might turn out okay, but the real capper is a smug, out of place cameo from our director in the last scene of the film. I wanted to smack him across the face.
4/10
As opposed to a very solid 8/10 for the original and a 6/10 for the sequel.

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor

August 1, 2008

"Awesome!"
No, that is not my assessment of this movie.
As usual I went to a matinee today and as I am entering the theater I am surrounded by about 20 kids of various ages from 8 to 14 years (some summer program group). My first reaction, of course was to hope they keep quiet and don't throw stuff. Turns out they were well behaved and really into the action on screen. Outside the theater I asked the kids how they liked the movie and the consensus was, as one 8-year-old put it "Awesome!"
However, most reviewers are saying "awful." This movie is being roundly panned by about 95 percent of reviewers and that kid's comment made me realize why I sometimes have to admit that "I enjoy bad movies." I somehow can still get into that matinee mentality, that non-analytical place where an 8-year-old resides and go along for the ride.
This movie was lame. It was adolescent, with corny lines, an improbable story that seemed to be made up as the movie went along, amply explained in bad dialogue and, as other reviewers pointed out, was totally unnecessary, compared to all the other recent action adventure movies this summer.
And yet, it was awesome in the eyes of unsophisticated kids who just enjoyed killing a summer afternoon at the movies, much as I did at their age, watching Ray Harryhausen movies like The 7th Voyage of Sinbad in 1958. That too was Awesome!
The movie opens in ancient China where an unscrupulous emperor Han (Jet Li) has conquered all the lands and realizes he is ageing and wants to be immortal. He sends his general to find a witch (a very beautiful witch BTW) Zi Juan (Michelle Yeoh) to give him immortality. Zi falls for and makes out with the general. After getting his immortality, Han kills the general and stabs the witch. But she puts a curse on him and his army and they all turn to clay (looking just like the real clay soldiers found in China).
From there we go to the present, which in mummy movie time is 1946 London and our mummy destroyers Rick O'Connell (Brendan Fraser) and his wife, Evelyn (Maria Bello) are living in retirement and bored silly. (Rachel Weisz must have figured two spins of The Mummy revolver were risk enough). They now have a son, Alex (Luke Ford) who is supposed to be in university but has dropped out and is on an archeological dig in China.
Rick and Evelyn are approached by the British Intelligence to smuggle a rare artifact to the museum in Shanghai. They accept just to get out of the manor and go to Shanghai under the pretext of visiting Evelyn's brother who has a cabaret there. This is slow ain't it. Well, it builds up to lots of CGI, because there is a conspiracy with militarists in post-war China who actually want to raise the cruel Dragon Emperor from the dead.
So, Rick and Evelyn go to Jonathan's (John Hannah) cabaret in Shanghai and run into Alex and other old characters from their past. After some intrigues, Alex has paired up with a young Chinese woman (Isabella Leong) who helps him and his family fight the bad guys who captured his parents.
As indicated by the movie trailers, the crazy Chinese general succeeds in waking the mummy Dragon Emperor. He's kind of crusty at first, what with the curse and all for 2K years but his mission is to get to Shangri-La and become immortal. When he does he then has the power to turn into a three-headed, flying, fire spewing dragon as well as some other kind of hairy beast, plus he can control the elements of water, earth and fire. Oh, you may have noticed there are Yeti's here also. It really gets rowdy.
Rick Fighting the Undead Again
http://images.rottentomatoes.com/images/movie/gallery/1186967/photo_17_hires.jpg
The clay soldiers come to life, but Zi gives a chant and brings back all the skeletal enemies of the Dragon Emperor that he buried under the Great Wall. Armies of bones meet armies of clay, with people in there battling each other and the undead.
A senseless, boisterous and loud, B-movie for a summer afternoon.
Awesome!

A completely useless and forgettable B-movie disguised as a summer blockbuster. The Mummy 3 was a sequel nobody asked for and nobody really wanted. The acting was awful (particularly Luke Ford) and the effects looked like they're done with a playstation 2. Also, cheering Yeti's that can rescue people from avalanches by shielding them with their body is apparently a possibility. Who knew?

I'm a big fan of the first two Mummy movies so I was looking forward to the Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. But holy cow, what a godawful piece of crap it is. Watching this movie was a disheartening experience. Maria Bello is a great actress but you wouldn't know that judging by her performance in this movie. She is utterly atrocious here. A shockingly ameuterish piece of acting. Infact, most of the acting all around sucks. Even Brendan Fraser, who I think is an underrated and under appreciative actor, is off his game here. His heart just doesn't seem into it. Even Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh are unable to bring anything to their parts. The first two Mummy movies have a goofy charm but here it's just sloppy and stupid with some appallingly bad dialogue. But the biggest shock of all is how bad the action scenes are. The movie is directed by Rob Cohen who has directed movies like xXx, The Fast and the Furious and Stealth. Now say what you will about those movies but at least the action scenes were well done in those movies. Here the action sequences are sloppy, inept and completely lifeless. The camera work is shoddy. It's like Cohen has gotten amnesia of all a sudden and forgotten how to direct an action scene. It's totally ameuterish. The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor is one of the worst movies of 2008 and the second worst movie of the summer. Not to mention the biggest disappointment for me.

He was awesome in Journey to the Center of the Earth. He's just a massively underrated actor IMO. Journey to the Center of the Earth was just an infinitely more fun movie.
I put most of the blame on Rob Cohen. When ALL of the actors are pretty much bad like this it's often the director's fault. He did a horrible job.

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor - 6/10
I went into this movie with probably the lowest expectations of any movie I have seen in a long time, and I'm glad I did because I kind of enjoyed it. It's nothing special, but it was definitely a decent way to kill a couple of hours on a shitty Saturday afternoon. There is plenty of action, all which is very exciting and fun. I tend to enjoy Brendan Fraser's performances, and he was plenty of fun here. I agree with the majority, Maria Bello was pretty damn bad, and I usually enjoy her performances. Jet Li when on screen was fun to watch. The CGI was good in places, and not so good in others. The cinematography was pretty damn gorgeous with some breathtaking shots. Overall, this sequel is probably on par with its predecessors (albeit I haven't seen either of those in a while), is cheesy dumb fun, and was a solid way to kill a few hours this afternoon. Nothing more, nothing less.

I'll let you be alone in your opinion Twister, while I did enjoy myself and didn't find myself bored, it still wasn't a good movie and was definately an unnecessary one. I hope Luke Ford never gets another acting role ever again as he was absolutely horrible and every time he said something I cringed. Brendan Fraser is a badass as usual and Maria Bello isn't bad, but I felt this lacked the heart that it's predessesors had. Overall it wasn't horrible but it also wasn't good either.
5/10
btw, maybe I totally missed this in the movie, but did anyone else not hear Luke Ford's line "We found it professor, it's the tomb of the Dragon Emperor and his army"? If it wasn't in there good call by whoever got rid of it, that line was ridiculously bad and I always laughed when he said it during the trailers.

it blew chunks of the jose cuervo 1800 gold variety but i can see how some people would like it .
at times it was painful to watch , and the effects looked like they were done with adobe after effects version 6 ( the fire in the hand effect , oh man ) . come on , those yetis were piss poor , it was a cool idea , but they looked dreadful .
the action scenes go on endlessly with little to no suspense to be had .
i don't know , what can i say , it's so bad , i'm having a difficult time even typing my thoughts , instantly forgettable , that would be a compliment .
Spoilers ( trust me , i can't spoil the movie anymore than it already is , you'll see the plot twists coming even before you walk in the theater )
one thing is for sure , it made me wish i was watching Fotr instead of this , they tried to do one of those opening monologues that explains the story , and it went on for , i have no idea how long .
everything seems forced between the characters , it's like they were all in separate films , there is zero chemistry between anyone , and that " love " story angle between his kid and that 2000 yo chick ( yeah , like we didn't know that she was immortal, she had to tell him so we could know ) is the height of cringe inducing .
jet li sucks in this , and not because he doesn't have much screen time , he's just in the wrong film , and then he turns into a dragon ? well , it just made me get excited for the Hobbit , because i know Smaug has to be a jillion times better . Fraser gets healed with some fountain of youth water , no that wasn't ripped from Last Crusade , god awful . Much like they ripped off the escape from the niteclub in TOD , this one has fireworks though .
this film is such a huge mess , you may find yourself liking it in spite of yourself , but i don't know , i was getting impatient for it to get better , and it just kept on getting worse .
the set design is horrible , the effects are low rent , the characters are cardboard cutouts ( a drunken scot , i never saw that one before ) , bello is a mere sexpot ( okay , some people will like that part ) , i want my 6 dollars back .
would i recommend this , yes , if you have already seen all the other offerings out there , and it does enough things wrong to make it at least a head scratching , why did i pay to see this and why did they make this affair . i found myself laughing at times , and at first it was because i thought i was enjoying myself , nope , it was a nervous laugh , like i was ashamed to even be in the theater watching this turd .
cgi yetis LOL , i have a feeling those things will become something of a legend now , kids will want those action figures .

i hate the fact that they replaced the director and the female lead. that was part of the reason this film sucked. it lost the adventure.
i thought some of the action scenes were cool, like the one in the snow with the yetis and the huge battle at the end. for some reason i love the way jet li looked as the mummy with his face completely torn away.

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor has some cool action sequences and moments of humor. But boy there were so many cheesy and moments of bad acting i felt embarrassed for the actors on the screen. For those who think
Hayden Christensen is a bad actor he's Laurence Oivier compared to Luke Ford.At least his love interest Isabella Leong was fun to look at.
I like Maria Bello but she's just bad in this even though her opening scenes with Fraser were cute. She's no Rachel Weisz.

LOL at people saying the story sucked. It's the same story as the other ones, basically. Mummy wakes up, needs to fully regenerate, wreaks havoc on mankind with large army.
I also prefer the direction in the other two. I thought Sommers did a much better job. This movie isn't as awful as most would have you believe. But in the end, I really missed Weisz, Vosloo, and Fehr and the Egypt theme in general. I don't think they did a good job capturing the feel of the first two films until the final battle, which is pretty spectacular.
I'd definitely recommend it though. As a personal preference, I'd rank it third, but as a film, it's at least as good (or as flawed) as the second one.

i am worried, i was looking forward to this, the trailers make it look awesome, ah well i am seeing it soon, hope u guys are wrong :p
i would say , you'll have some fun with it , but it's spectacularly bland , especially in a summer where we got so many great films , IM , Hancock , Hulk , Tdk , it just pales in comparison to some of those other ones . If you're that desperate for some cinematic entertainment , then i would recommend it , it's only a mild recommendation though , because you seriously won't be missing out if you don't see it .
The one thing that really gets me is that it so blatantly rips off the Indy series , the first two did also, but they had a sense of fun , everyone looks bored in this thing , like they are reading off of cue cards . Hey that scene of Fraser sleeping in a chair in his study sort of summed up the performances , everyone was lifeless in this , no wait , the resurrected army showed more signs of life than the actual actors :) .
This isn't a must see , it's a wouldn't make a difference if you wait and see .

Obviously another unnecesary sequel. Now i understarnd why the Chinese goverment ordered Universal to re-edit the film so it could be released in China.
lol , they would have had to edit at least 90 minutes worth of footage to make this safe for general public consumption ;)

3/10
this was just cheesy, hokey, and generally idiotic.
it felt like National Treasure 2 with special effects, something no movie should take as a compliment.

Just watched this movie today.
I like it much better than Indana Jones 4.
One thing I didn't like though is that Rachel Weisz isn't in the movie.

I had no problem w/ Stealth either. mindless popcorn fun done well 7/10
xXx? Like that too. 7.5/10
Daylight? 7.5
Never seen FATF.
From the trailers for Mummy and Cohens past record of 7/10s...I see no reason to think this is gonna suck..it may..but it looks like fun mindless popcorn done well. Anyone going into these type of films looking for 9 & 10/10s need to readjust themeselves for these type of flicks. Again, it may well suck..but for him delivering solid 7/10s and from the trailers I seen, I am expecting a rollicking good time full of action and decent special effects! :)
I like Stealth too. The only thing I hate about it is the planes design and how they set up that head-quarter with all those transparent ATX computer case with neon lights all over, made the whole thing look so stupid.
And for Daylight, it wasn't the problem of the director, the story itself is a failure.

I didnt understand a lotta the hatred for this flick...it was a fun enjoyable time...but I do have to agree that the new female lead was different and prolly not the best choice, but I enjoyed the flick.

If there is a 4th Mummy movie then I REALLY hope Stephen Sommers comes back as director and they manage to convince Rachel Weisz back. If not then kill off the Evie character.

Stephen Sommers sucks. The only decent movie he made is the first Mummy, everything else is CGI crap for 12 year-olds.He also ruined the Van Helsing franchise(they planned the sequels since the production of the first one).

What's up with all the hatred for The Mummy Returns? I could have sworn I remember reading that a lot of people liked it better than the first one.

Not me. I remember a lot of people hating it. I remember being in the minority of loving the movie.

You and me both brother.
Don't left me out (and my wife for the matter).
We love all 3 of the Mummy movies.
Some people just don't get it. The Mummys is exactly what they are, fun and mindless entertaining summer movies, they weren't trying to be something else like The God Father. So......................Why So Serious?

Sommers, maybe, but Weisz, no chance. She turned down a lot of money when she said no to the third one.

If either Sommers or Cohen are back, I'll be happy. I thought both men did a good job.
I'll welcome a Mummy 4, but I would be one of the very few who would.

I agree with most people in this thread.
The first two movies were great popcorn flicks, watched the first one in preperation and still fuckin love every minute of it.
This one sucks. I wasnt expectin oscar winning performances or a gripping storyline but i was expecting a fun time and not to see fuckin yetti's in a Mummy movie.
I will admit i thought the CG on Jet Li when he was the terracotta mummy was pretty bad ass and the dragon looked pretty good but the film was terrible.
Maria Bello didnt work at all. In the other 2 Weisz and Fraser did seem pretty believable as a couple but not here, and their son must have had a hard ass life cause he looked about 5 yours younger than his parents.
All in all save your money, go see TDK again

I don't think this is nearly as bad as people are making it... It is not a masterpiece, but it is a fun movie, I didn't go for any other reason than to be entertained for a couple hours, and I got my wish. I thought the worst part was Maria Bello, she blew chunks, but I still got love for Brendan Frasier, and the guy who played his son did good. I don't know what else to say, just a good way to spend 2 hours

I didn't hate this movie like a good majority of people have. Brendan Fraser was entertaining, the effects were decent for the most part, and the story wasn't that bad. The worst part, like john_rambo said above, was Maria Bello. Her accent and look just sucked. I don't know what they were thinking when they cast her in this part.
7/10
I feel it's re-watchable, otherwise the rating would be 6/10
