Plot Outline: Bud Johnson doesn't have much to show for his life. He's a good-hearted bum, a single dad whose only loves in life are beer and his twelve-year-old daughter, Molly. Molly is the woman of the house, more grown up than her dad will ever be, and hoping to make a difference in the world. Little does she know that she's about to make American history. Thanks to her Election Day mischief, her father ends up being the owner of the one single vote that will decide the next President of the United States.

Rated PG-13 for language.

Runtime: 120 minutes

I really like the premise, but I'm not sure if they took the right path with this one.

The premise is pretty silly, the trailer did nothing for me, and the cast is straight-up B-list.

Yes, but you have to admit, if done right, seeing a film about a presidential vote coming down to one person would be pretty fun. I just don't think the filmmakers took the right direction with this one.

I suppose you're right, especially with the upcoming election. But yeah, they took the wrong direction with the (seemingly) lightweight comedy/father-daughter bonding.

This little film intrigues me, I'll probably catch it at the threatre.

I thought the trailer was quite charming myself. Kevin Costner looks like he is having a blast in it.

Doubt I'll see it though as I doubt the premise can fill up an entire movie. Made for a good trailer though. :)

The cast may be be B-list, but I love the cast. Kelsey Grammer, Stanley Tucci, Dennis Hopper. Also in the right role, Nathan Lane can be very funny.

And of course Costner himself who is seriously underrated.

I'm definitely looking forward to this one. Looks pretty funny.

I like Costner, but I can't get excited about a cast like this. Hopper, Lane, Lopez and Grammer is hardly Freeman, Oldman, Caine and Ledger.

Well I'm not saying this cast is on par with The Dark Knight's cast. But I still like this cast a lot. Especially Grammer and Tucci.

Ugh. Grammer is one of the worst actors ever. Just terrible.

I'll see this, just to see Grammer as president.

This just seems like a giant piece of propaganda to get Americans to vote in the upcoming election. Also, the voting system does not work that way.

I am not defending the movie (it looks awful), but although obviously, insanely unlikely, I suppose it could be possible. Let's take the 2000 election for example. As we found out, the election obviously came down to just one state. Both Bush and Gore did not have the 270 electoral votes they needed to clinch the presidency without FL. Let's also say FL was so close, it came down to 1 vote (again, obviously very unlikely although Bush did "win" by only 530something votes in FL). Something happens to the voting machine while he is trying to vote (which appears to happen to Costner's character in the film), and well, there ya go. It would come down to one person, and since the state is tied with the popular vote, it would come down to that one person that was trying to vote, but didn't get the chance.

Unlikely, but not impossible. I believe the state in question in the film is New Mexico (which actually is big time swing state, and a pretty lowly populated state). So I guess it is slightly more likely for a tie popular vote in a smaller state like New Mexico, rather than a state like FL or OH.

But yeah, still a fairly silly premise.

Oh god this is probably gonna end with Costner realizing he needs to be better with his daughter and then write in his name on the daughter's ballot or something or maybe put in an independent's name and then there's a joint presidency or something to show that everyone can get along oh fuck I'm throwing up.

Hahaha. When Nathan Lane was on Regis & Kelly a couple of days ago he's going on about this and how he couldn't believe it.

Anyway, saw the movie and enjoyed it every much. It kind of gets off to a rocky start and feels a little preachy plus it does kind of repetative at some parts but it's funny and touching and Costner is good and so is the supporting cast especially the actress who plays Costner's daughter. She is fantastic.

7/10

Id be curious to see if anyone else is bothered by how the film plays the Costner character. They way way overplay his defining characteristic in this film specifically being a drunk hick. In fact its so overplayed during the first 30 minutes that he becomes a really loathsome character. Just look at the halarious scene where he thinks he's fooling social worker. The film is already pretty smug and preachy and this only emphasizes it. The movie reduces all its satire and points to easy to digest one note targets. In fact im pretty sure the movie is saying anybody who is a lower class midwest man is a drunken hick who needs to learn civic responsibility.

Oh and the scene where the daughter meets her mother is completely off tone wise.

"Sadly he's a Republican in real life."

That's bashing someone based on their political views, and it's not necessary.

If I made the same comment about Democrats you'd react the same way. I know you're going to reply by saying, "No I wouldn't", but you would and you know it.

Very cool.

Thanks.

I bet American citizens win, because they learn that apathy is bad and voting is good, thanks to Kevin Costner and his adorable daughter.

Yeah, I liked the movie but the two things that I found disappointing was that they didn't show any of the actual debate at the end and we don't get to see who Costner voted for.
