Tagline: The most terrifying ride you'll ever take.

Plot Outline: When Leon Kaufman's latest body of work--a collection of provocative, nighttime studies of the city and its inhabitants--earns the struggling photographer interest from prominent art gallerist Susan Hoff, she propels him to get grittier and show the darker side of humanity for his upcoming debut at her downtown art space. Believing he's finally on track for success, Leon's obsessive pursuit of dark subject matter leads him into the path of a serial killer, Mahogany, the subway murderer who stalks late-night commuters--ultimately butchering them in the most gruesome ways imaginable. With his concerned girlfriend Maya fearing for his life, Leon's relentless fascination with Mahogany lures him further and further into the bowels of the subways and ultimately into an abyss of pure evil--inadvertently pulling Maya right along with him.

Starring: Bradley Cooper, Vinnie Jones, Leslie Bibb, Brooke Shields, and Peter Jacobson

Rated R for sequences of strong bloody gruesome violence, grisly images involving nudity, sexual content and language.

Runtime: 100 minutes

Haven't seen anything about this since the first trailer, but I remember that being pretty damn sweet. If this comes to my theatre, I'll definitely be seeing it.

Looks pretty good. Big fan of Cooper's too. More for his tv work than his movie work but he's good all around.

I hope this opens at my local theater. I'm worried that it won't. :(

The short story was freaky not that that means anything.

It's a shame that stuff like One Missed Call and Shutter and The Strangers get wide releases and extensive marketing campaigns while Midnight Meat Train and All the Boys Love Mandy Lane get delayed and limited releases and essentially dumped by their studio.

Agreed on this (unless it ends up being bad that is). But I didn't care for Many Lane myself.

To be fair this has be getting so really really terrible early buzz so thats probably why its being slipped into theaters.

The only review I read was very positive.

And I haven't seen it so I can't speak to its quality. It's just the general principle of certain types of horror films getting wide releases and strong studio support while others that seemingly are not as generic or cookie-cutter languish and get poor treatment.

To be fair though while I didn't care Mandy Lane it's still way a billion times better than The Strangers and One Missed Call put together.

I'll definitely be checking this one out. I'm currently reading Books of Blood, I haven't come to Midnight Meat Train yet, but so far it's pretty freaky shit. The trailer for this looks pretty cool, and Clive Barker can pretty much do no wrong as far as I'm concerned. I'll be there opening day (whenever the fuck that is).

I have a Clive Barker fan who works at Lionsgate and he along with everybody else there has seen it. He said its really schlocky and silly. Nobody really had any idea what to do with it for a while.

Also I read a few terrible test screening reviews.

Good. That's exactly what I'd hope it be. Schlocky and silly, two of my favorite types of films. :D

Long live the Midnight Meat Train!

I probably wouldn't of cared had I read the great short story. The story while out there is anything but silly. Its pretty disturbing.

The short story was great.....not too sure how you`d stretch it into a feature-length movie though.

I remember seeing this trailer before Good Luck Chuck last September. It was funnier than the whole good luck chuck movie itself. I laughed so hard when the title of the movie was read. It is now an infamous moment in my circle of friends and we all can't wait to see it.

Huh-what?

People actually think this looks good? This has to be one of the stupidest trailers I've ever seen, not to mention the stupidest title of all time.

The likelihood that people are going to dismiss this film because of its title is sad. The short story itself is pretty good. Some people just need to grow up.

How is it the title "the stupidest title of all time" when it makes complete sense?

Man I don't think there has been a movie as raped by it's own studio since in 2002 when Moonlight Mile, Below and Equilibrium were fucked by it's studio (the former two being great movies and the latter being a very solid one).

Very disappointing to hear.

In the Seattle area, it's only playing at the Gateway $2 Theatre in Federal Way.

I thought it was one of the better Clive Barker adaptations.

It's also a decent date movie if you're going out with a girl who likes to grab you during the scary stuff.

Vinnie Jones can't play anything but Vinnie Jones. Pass. I doubt I'll get a thrill watching him play a killer.

Here's what I wrote in the horror forum,

The only real downside was the excessive CGI...everything else was tip-top, even - shocker of ALL shockers - VINNIE JONES!

Ordinarily, the man couldn't act his way out of a paper bag, but as a mute villain he absolutely sent the willies up me...and he genuinely does look like a Victorian butcher.

I thought some of the scenes in which Vinnie was being stalked were absolutely chilling...especially the scene in the abbatoir/butchers in amongst all the animal carcasses. I was on the edge of my seat. The gore was just great to boot.

A really enjoyable horror...destined to become a cult classic IMO.

8.5/10

MAJOR SPOILERS!!!

For the most part, despite some funny gore scenes, the whole movie plays realistically. But then all of a sudden without ANY hint throughout the movie, we are all of a sudden introduced to these canabalistic creatures who feed on the murder victims.

Throughout the entire final 10 minutes I was staring at my computer screen thinking: WTF?!

Thus, it felt like it was a COMPLETELY different movie.

If the movie had shown Vinnie Jones character feeding those creatures in the begining the remains at the begining then it wouldn't have felt so jarring and out of place. But it did. It was a major turn off to me because of that. It was pretty stupid to me.

I wouldn't say the film played things realistically but that's me.

The film was building up to those moments and if they shown the goods early on, it would've ruined everything.

If you looked throughout the entire film, there were little hints to what was really going and I really noticed those things a 2nd time around.

But maybe I just like it because it's different. Plus it felt like pure Clive Barker.

I understand where you are coming from, as I also felt slighlty jipped by the lack of explanation at the ending.

Just what were the creatures exactly? The whole "oh they were here before us!" was a bit of a cop-out IMO. The Mason-like murderous 'organization' seemed far-fetched to say the least...I mean, even the cop was involved!? The seemingly RANDOM cop just so happened to be okay with all these innocent peeps being fed to a buncha underground cannibals!!!

Also, the train driver seemed to exhibit superhuman strength when he was fighting...and just what was the story behind the weird growths all over Vinnie Jones' torso were...and why was he cutting them off and keeping them in jars?

There were so many little details left unexplained...some would say left 'open to interpretation'...hmmm, i'm not so sure about that.

However, when all is said and done it IS a horror movie and I personally think suspension of belief is the most rudimentary requirement when watching horror...I also enjoyed the flick more than enough to let all my minor quibbles slide.

Anyway, I understand where you're coming from...that's basically all I wanted to say.

SPOILER!!!!!!!!!

I can definitely see where you're coming from, ilovemovies. However, I have to say that personally I thought there was something either supernatural or biologically strange going from very close to the beginning of the movie.

The first hint they gave is the boils all over Vinnie's body. That gave us a little look into the door, a peak if you will, that something was off about him.

The next hint they give is when they start talking about a butcher from the past, much longer than Vinnie Jone's character should have lived, who was put being prosecuted for butchering people. That gave me the hint that Vinnie's character was probably much older than he looked, for what reason we don't know yet.

The next hint is when Leon gets captured by Vinnie, and some sort of creature attacks him before Vinnie lets him loose. That solidified there being something supernatural going on behind the scenes.

The final hint before the eventual reveal was the psychological and visual connection between Leon and Vinnie's character. Leon started act like, look like and essentialy become just like Vinnie by the time he walked onto that train to face off against him. At first, I was originall convinced that I thought he was going to go on the train and kill his girlfriend himself.

So when the final reveal occured, it really didn't feel out of place or like it belonged in a different movie at all to me. The movie had been building up to that, and hinting at it since the beginning.

There were a lot of clues out there for the people involved in the 'plot'... the cop had the pendant and another cop had a ring.... lots of little bits and bobs.... to show that no matter what the couple were always being watched.
