(From NY Daily News) (http://www.nydailynews.com/news/2008/08/03/2008-08-03_report_bernie_mac_in_very_very_critical_.html)
Comedian Bernie Mac is reportedly in "very, very critical" condition after checking himself into a Chicago hospital with pneumonia.

The Chicago Sun-Times, citing an unidentified person with ties to Mac's family, first reported on his dire condition today and said his wife, Rhonda McCullough, is at his side.

A spokeswoman for Mac did not directly address the Sun-Times report, only referring a reporter today to a statement issued Saturday in which she called rumors that he was dead "absolutely untrue."

Publicist Danica Smith said the TV funnyman, whose real name is Bernard McCullough, is responding well to treatment and should be released soon.

Smith, who said she was unsure when her client first entered the hospital, said the pneumonia was unrelated to Mac's sarcoidosis, a chronic disease that can inflame tissue, particularly in the lungs. The 50-year-old Mac's sarcoidosis has been in remission since 2005, she said.

Mac, a Chicago native, was a school bus driver for the handicapped before breaking into stand-up comedy three decades ago.

He landed a series of big screen roles in the 1990s in flicks like "House Party 3," "Friday" and Spike Lee's "Get on the Bus."

His biggest fame has come in the past decade with "The Original Kings of Comedy" in 2000 and "Ocean's Eleven" in 2001. But it was the debut of his self-titled TV comedy, "The Bernie Mac Show" that year that made his a household name. The series was canceled in 2006.

I don't know what to believe anymore with this whole 'critical condition' crap. Morgan Freeman was listed in that condition when he was up talking and joking with the medics. I'm a big fan of Bernie, so I hope he truly is ok! I also had no idea he used to be a bus driver for the handicapped. What a good guy. Get well soon!

Definitely wish him the best. Hopefully the news is just blown out of proportion.

He is my favorite of the Kings of Comedy easily.

Bernie Mac "Responding Well" to Pneumonia Treatment

Bernie Mac (Ocean's Eleven, The Bernie Mac Show) is responding well to treatment and should be released soon after being admitted Friday to a Chicago hospital with pneumonia. That said, a spokesperson for the comedian had to shoot down as "absolutely untrue" an early rumor that Mac in fact had passed on.

Mac, 50, has sarcoidosis (a chronic disease that can inflame tissue), but it has been in remission for years and is unrelated to the pneumonia. — Matt Mitovich

Sounds like he's fine to me.

I read in the Sun-Times yesterday that he was doing really well and should be out of the hospital within a day or two.

On a side note, WTF is up with these media outlets blowing shit out of proportion?

To an extent, yes. But holy shit! Freeman was pulled out of his car with the jaws of life and is in critical condition, but was joking with bystanders at the scene of the accident?!?!

Fuck these media outlets!

I don't care. This has been a fucking atrocious year not only for me personally, but for celebrities (sick, dead, accidents) as well.

I can't wait till it's fucking over man.

To be fair...he could have been pinned in the car, not able to get out, and have no ability to use either one or both of his arms...but also be joking with rescuers, so the report would be technically factual.

My biggest surprise is that he was driving a 1997 Nissan Maxima!!!
