Robert Downey Jr. has admitted that he is not a fan of The Dark Knight.

Downey Jr., whose Marvel superhero film Iron Man was the highest grossing film of the year until Christopher Nolan's sequel debuted, told MovieHole that he found the latest Batman movie too complicated.

He explained: "It's like a Ferrari engine of storytelling and script writing and I'm like, 'That's not my idea of what I want to see in a movie'.

"I didn't understand The Dark Knight. Didn't get it, still can't tell you what happened in the movie, what happened to the character and in the end they need him to be a bad guy."

Downey Jr. suggested that the DC Comics adaptation was "highbrow" and required a "college education to understand".

He added: "You know what? F*** DC Comics. That's all I have to say and that's where I'm really coming from."

I'm sure he was joking but still sounds like the mans a bit bitter, hehe.

I wonder if he pulled a Tony Stark and went out to a bar to drown his sorrows since the movie did better than his.

Also, this really reminds of if the I'm a Marvel/DC skits on youtube:

Anyone else find it ironic that the argument for "Marvel is better than DC" always lied in the idea that Marvel was more complex and deep, yet Downey Jr. is complaining that The Dark Knight was too complex?

Meh, I've always been a DC fan, through and through.

Hahaha. He definitely sounds like he was joking. Either way though, I agree with him for the most part. Outside of Batman and Green Lantern, DC as a whole doesn't have much to offer as far as I'm concerned.

Indeed. Except for me it's outside of Batman and their Vertigo imprint which I'm starting to read more of. (Wildstorm=.)

he's clearly using reverse psychology to get cast in the 3rd batman as riddler, another joker, catwoman, harley quinn and every other fanboy wanting... not bane though, that'd just be silly

Downey hates Batman, I only have one thing to say to that.

Not sure what was so complicated about The Dark Knight, I thought it was a simple story. Maybe it was because of all the stories going on, hard to keep track of?

Iron Man was a great movie too, maybe he is angry that this movie beat that one? Oh well, we got two great comic book movies this summer.

I love it!Such an unexpected thing to say considering how hot the film is,especially when he KNOWS that peeps on the I-Net will be talking trash on him.On here though, noone seems that upset about,in contrast to what I expected.

Personally,TDK was a good film-and that's it.It is in no way the film of the century,or a film deserving of its hype, atleast AFTER the film came out.IMO, its like going to a cat-house with a best-friend:it was fun,now lets never speak of it again.(Not that I bring friends to whore-houses,I'm too cheap for that.)

I enjoyed the MTV Tropic Thunder viral thing. Stiller's "nephew" tells him that Christian Bale could kick his ass.

Given RDJ's propensity for tongue-in-cheek humor, I wouldn't be surprised if he was just rattling someone's chain. That said, LordSimen is right about DC not having much to offer. Outside of Batman and Watchmen, none of their other properties impress me much. Even as a comic-illiterate adolescent, I still recognized more Marvel characters than DC ones.

Marvel: Spidey, Hulk, Captain America, X-Men, Iron Man, Fantastic 4

DC: Bats, Supes, Wonder Woman (had heard of the Flash but didn't know he was DC)

Yet, oddly, I knew of the Justice League long before I ever heard of the Avengers.

Even if RDJ was saying this truthfully, I would still love him for being a bad-ass.

Maybe he wanted to be Bruce Wayne in the Batman franchise instead of Tony Stark in the Ironman franchise. If he was casted as Wayne instead of Stark, he would be saying 'fuck Marvel Comics!'. Anyways... Marvel's better.

Bobby Jr. is, until just recently, a very underrated and often overlooked actor. He's one of my favorites. I don't know if he was joking around or not, I'd say he was. But either way, I'm with him. FUCK DC COMICS! I just hope he's not boozing again. :(

Could be entertaining.

Downey Jr is truly a badass...

and he was joking.. but still. I'll agree with most of you that Marvel has more to offer. I still think DC's select few (Batman and Superman) are better than Marvel's big group though. I like Iron Man, Spiderman, and the Hulk, but I think the quality of DC's characters is better. Maybe I'm just a little obsessed with batman. :)

Green Lantern is far and away the best book they have been putting out the last few years!

Read it!:)

Ill have to check it out, never read any green lantern before.

Im not the biggest comic guy in the world, but my older brothers left me with tons of Batman and Superman comics.. maybe thats why I'm partial to them? :)

Even though i don't agree , he just went up on my coolness scale , it's great to see the fanboys get insulted like that by such a popular actor , and i'm one of them lol .

People have taken Tdk way too seriously , they are maniacal in their praise for it , and although i do love the film , it's nice to see someone such as Downney take a playful shot at it .

No worries , Marvel is still the comic book movie King overall , Dc really only has Batman , it's their only viable comic book movie franchise . Superman is up in the air right now , so nobody knows what will happen with that franchise .

Marvel has two huge franchises now and some b level offerings that are still entertaining and profitable . Sm and IM are huge , and then you have Hulk , FF , X Men , the upcoming Wolverine .

I really don't care about the whole DC vs Marvel thing , but you can't deny the consistent output coming from Marvel .

Anyway , i love the Bat , The green guy , and the Spider and the guy in the Iron getup , it's still funny what Downey said if you don't take it too seriously :)

Man, Downey is the man! I love his sense of humor.

I can kind of understand his frustration too. I mean, Iron Man starts out the summer with a bang and makes over 300 million then the Dark Knight comes along and just creams everything in site.

Much praise for the Downey Jr. pissing off the Dark Knight fanboys who clearly won't get the joke.
