Plot Outline: Poor Robert "Fish" Fishman just hasn't been the same since the 80's glam-metal band Vesuvius kicked him out and went on to become the biggest thing since Motley Crüe. So when his nephew Matt needs a new drummer for his emo band, Fish seizes the chance to rock out once again. A few minor complications: for starters, he doesn't know emo from Elmo, and there's also the fact that his new guitarist's mom is a smoking hottie. Will Fish reel in the girl and fulfill his rock and roll dreams?
Starring: Rainn Wilson, Christina Applegate, Jane Lynch, Josh Gad, Jeff Garlin, Emma Stone

Rated PG-13 for drug and sexual references, nudity and language.
Runtime: 102 minutes
This looks pretty crappy. I might check it out if I'm bored though.

It looks very generic and like a typical August dump film. I don't think Rainn Wilson will ever break out into movies. I love him on The Office though.

And I will say it right now I cant fucking stand Rainn Wilson. Just not a fan at all.
I will definitely pass on this one.

Rainn Wilson is annoying as hell, i don't watch the office but from House of 1000 Corpses, Entourage and his 'cameo' in Juno....i've gathered this

I think I'd be more interested if it was rated-R. But the PG-13 means no F-bombs (which would be perfect for a movie like this), no (female) nudity . . . something tells me the "nudity" is somebody's ass, and nothing risque.
Pass.

One question: What is with the Jonah Hill ripoffs now? Are fat kids that funny? (I just think they're gross)
This kid, in The Rocker; the fattie in that new piece of shit College.

The first image that came to mind when i read the title of this film was that of a horror movie featuring an old rocking chair that possesses the spirit of an evil entity and kills anyone who sits in it .

Reminds me of Hot Rod. This movie will not do well.

that new piece of shit College.
That looks dreadful. A lame attempt to rip off Superbad and other films like it. At a sold out show last night at Tropic Thunder (probably 400 seats/people), I don't think there was one laugh during the trailer.

I saw it yesterday. (Just for the "free Jenna now campaign." mmm Jenna!)
It actually wasn't half bad. The trailers gave it a whole different feel. The first five-six minutes are bad but the rest is actually decent. and Emma Stone is great too. I look forward to see what happens with her career. the only good "family" comedy I have seen this summer.
Wall-e counts as a family FILM.

I saw this too and enjoyed it, by no means was it perfect but decent enough. 7/10.

I enjoyed this, Rainn Wilson was decent and Emma Stone is great. I predict a great future for her if she stops doing things like The House Bunny. Overrall it had heart, albeit being predictable, but was a solid entry into the comedy genre.

The Office is the best comedy on t.v., you are missing out big time. Rainn is amazing in it. And I actually thought his cameo in Juno was pretty amusing.
As for The Rocker, I'll wait for dvd. It doesn't look awful, and actually has gotten too awful of reviews, but there are a lot of better looking movies out I wanna check out first.

While the comedy is a bit too broad at times, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. The satire is clever, the film is filled with heart and really likable characters, and it does a good job of lampooning the modern music industry. Rainn Wilson is great and proves he can carry a film on his shoulders, but he gets good support in the form of Will Arnett, Jason Sudeikis, Christina Applegate, Emma Stone, Josh Gad, Jeff Garlin, and especially former singer Teddy Geiger who is the real heart of the film. Geiger and Wilson's relationship throughout the film is what takes this above your average comedy. And the songs are pretty good too.

Gets off to a rocky start but it's a mostly very likeable movie with a lot heart and some good laughs. Rainn Wilson over does it at times but for the most part he's good. And I loved Christina Applegate in this. And the kids are great too. A very likeabel movie.
7/10
