Jennifer Lopez is a seriously underrated actress. She deserved oscar nominations for her work in Angel Eyes (a criminally underrated and overlooked film), Out of Sight and maybe even Selena.

She was also really good in The Cell and An Unfinished Life.

Del Torro is definitely a great one.

So is Leguizamo. He's awesome in almost everything he does. He was the even the one actor who managed to rise above the material and give a solid performance in the otherwise lame thriller The Happening.

Although I've only seen her in Alias and Poseidon, Mia Meastro is awesome too.

Anyone see Leguizamo's stand up film Freak? It's gold. Spike Lee directed it, and it's one of the few concert films where the direction plays in with the jokes. Either way, Leguizamo is hilarious, and could have been standing in front of a brick wall giving the same material and it would have been ace.

Eva Mendez, while born in America has parents of Cuban descent. I just like mentioning her.

Cameron Diaz latin? I did not know that.

According to Wiki:

Her father is a second-generation Cuban American and her mother is of English, German and Cherokee Native American ancestry.

So... Does that really count?

Good call on Trejo.

Surprised no one's mentioned Javier Bardem yet...

Del Toro is a legend in the making, possibly the Latino DeNiro.

Cheech, Trejo, and Guzman are already Legends.

Leguizamo's good, but he needs to pick up his career and do something good again...

Freddy Rodriguez is the fucking man; I really would like to see him do more.

And for some odd reason when I read this thread, the first actor to pop in my head: Michael Peńa.

Plus I have a huge thing for Michelle Rodriguez, she's fucking gorgeous when she isn't trying to look hard.

I know I did not name him, because he is from Spain. I consider that Spanish. Latin to me is Mexico and south. I know a guy from Spain and they consider themselves to be higher class than people from Latin America. By that theory Javier would not like to be on a list of Latin American's.

Banderas, and Bardem are both Spanish, they probably wouldn't like to be calles latinos, but who know.

John Leguizamo is Columbian, Benicio Del Toro, Luiz Guzman, Esai Morales, and Freddy Rodriguez are Puerto Rican.

I consider them Latino since like you said they are South.

Everybody that has been mentioned here is very good with the exception of Jennifer Lopez. I wouldn't say she's a bad actress but I wouldn't say she's good. She's not the type of actress that can give a solid performance with a limited role in a shitty movie. All these other cats can do that. I actually think her husband, Marc Anthony, is a better actor than she is.

Some favorites that haven't been mentioned yet:

The Badass Ruben Blades

Rosario Dawson

http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/3320/rosario20dawsonkn6.jpg

Young actors with potential:

Zoe Saldana

Jay Hernandez

http://img504.imageshack.us/img504/3889/jayhernandezlargejw8.jpg

Catalina Sandino Moreno

http://img504.imageshack.us/img504/3162/catalinasandinomorenophrx4.jpg

Don't know if this is true:

Madeleine Stowe: Apperantly one of her parents is from Costa Rica. I really don't know if this is true but I read it somewhere.

http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/9998/madeleinestowepicture1kq3.jpg

Joanna Kerns: Maggie Fucking Seaver is half Mexican? I don't know if I read this right but again, who knows?

http://img502.imageshack.us/img502/3986/joannalargeft6.jpg

Anyway to answer you question, my favorite Latino actor right now is Gael Garcia Bernal. He is a risk taker in choosing roles and is absolutely genuine on screen. I am a huge fan of his.

By the way, I agree about the Spanish not being considered Latinos historically speaking. But I really don't think that Spanish actors would be offended by being called "Latino," unless they're complete assholes.

Haha. You keep commenting on the stuff I'm semi-scared to, because I'm pretty freaking white - even though I was once told by a Mexican that I must have some Mexican in me, because he's never seen a white guy get his eyes that red. I told him he must be stoned, because my eyes are blue, which literally made him fall out of his chair.

Don't be afraid to comment on race relations just because you're white. I understand the trepidation most white people feel nowadays not wanting to say anything for fear of being labeled a racist or at the very least, racially insensitive. But that's our (minorities, and I really hate that fucking word) fault. We're too quick to use the "racist" card. There should be an open dialogue amongst people about everything that involves being human and that includes "race." In the end, it's all bullshit. There is no such thing as race, only human variation. Besides, WHITE is a "color" too. ;)

------------------------------------------------------------------------

On a side note, I always thought that Sheen was Cuban. Why did I think that? Anyway, also thought that Emilio Esteves looks a lot like his dad Martin but Charlie doesn't. He must be born from what we Latinos call, El Sancho. :p

Legendary Latino Actors:

Anthony Quinn - I know he's been posted a lot but he's Motherfucking Anthony Quinn!

Rita Hayworth

Raquel Welch

http://img511.imageshack.us/img511/6357/raquelwelchphotographc1oi5.jpg

Don't know if she's "legendary" but she's fucking Wonder Woman, Lynda Carter! I used to have very naughty thoughts about this woman when I was a kid. ;)

Not so much that I don't want to get labeled racist or looked down upon, but that I think there are others who's observations are probably more valid --- With the instances I mentioned, the responses you gave were my gut reaction, and given that I overstate things, I generally shy away from commenting based on a gut reaction - at least on the internet.

I always thought that Lumi Cavazos would have a better career. I mean she's worked quite a bit but I thought she'd be a little more high profile than she is. I think she's a great actress and gave wonderful performances in Like Water For Chocolate, In the Time of the Butterflies and even in the limited role in Bottle Rocket.

I remember discovering Freak late one night when I had HBO and just relating to the fucked-up-ed-ness of his family.

That little wit there, brought back a looooooot of memories,
