Fred Phelps and his "church" (which is comprised mostly of family members) first gained noteriety when they picketed the funeral of Matthew Shephard. Shortly after, they picketed funerals of other gay men. Since that didn't give them enough press and media attention, they changed to picketing funerals of military personnel. They still do, but also put out press announcements claiming to pickets funerals of so called "fag-loving" celebrities. In the past, these celebs included such people Mr. (Fred) Rogers, Heath Ledger and many others.

Just so people know, Fred Phelps has an army of 10+ children who he beat and brainwashed as they grew up. He was smart in one respect though, he forced all of them to become lawyers. They recently had a lawsuit filed against them over their picketing of soldier's funerals. They lost and were forced to cough up a couple million, but they're appealing the case and will most likely repeat that as much as possible.

If you have time, there's a book called Addicted to Hate that is online. It's pretty much all about the abuse and terrible childhood all of Phelps' kids had along with how terrible the guy is on his own.

Don't let the name of the church (I hate that they even call it that) confuse you.....these fucktards have nothing to do with Babtists or Christianity at all. They fairly recently picketed a funeral of a college girl who was murdered and left on the side of the road at Auburn University because "the university system is a breeding ground for homosexuals" or some bullshit. I once called their facilities out of sheer curiousty under the guise of a prospective church-goer. I asked about their stance on overseas missions and their response was "if they're preaching God loves everyone they're going to Hell and they'll bring those they taught with them" then I chimed in with my opinion that God doesn't hate. She freaked out and asked me about Enoch (it says somewhere that God hated him), and I told her I wasn't that familliar with it but I know it says that. When I asked her to elaborate on that she told me to read my Bible more, called me a dumbass and hung up.

As a Christian I consider acting on any urge that deems itself sinful to be wrong. There is no such thing as a "Big Sins" and "Small Sins". The only reason people react so differently to them is because of the severity these actions may cause. Its just so simple to forgive someone for lying, or stealing, or cursing someone out, but people react to a murder, someone killing another human being, with so much more bitterness and unforgiveness.

Does that mean I don't think murder is a big deal? No way. I do see a definite difference between stealing a pac of TicTacs from 7Eleven, and the Virginia Tech shooting. But what I need to remember that in the same lines God says "Don't Steal" he also says "Don't Kill". His love for this world is so much that he can see past both of these, without judgement, and label these wrongs as one, Sin.

The biggest lesson I've learn is that God loves the sinner, and not the sin. I've learned to not go around classifying people by their sins. The Alcoholic, The Drug Addict, The Cheater, The Liar, The Homosexual, The Murderer, etc. We're all PEOPLE. We all have temptations and urges, and we all slip up and make mistakes and fall flat on our faces. And Christ, who was sinless, died on a Cross, so that we wouldn't have to take the punishment for our sin, which was death. We were guilty and Jesus took that punishment for us.

I don't usually intend to come on Joblo to preach to people, but I do enjoy the fact that I can share my love for movies and my love for God, because both can easily be descriminated against. I just believe that there is so much hatred in this world, that if someone falls face first on the ground, how can we not lend a hand?
