Rated R for language including sexual references, brief nudity and some drug content.

This looks pretty funny. Maybe not as funny as the three previous hard-R rated comedies released this summer, but it does look funny. So far it's at 100% on RT.

It looks very meh, I do like Keener a lot though. She can do a lot better than projects like this however.

Yeah it looks pretty funny, i'm just wondering what religious group or conservative group is gonna be offended by it and cause a rucus! It definitely won't be for everyone

With Pam Brady co-writing, you can bet your ass there will be plenty of controversy!

This looks really hit or miss. I know some of the kids in it so I'm a bit biased, but unfortunately despite a funny concept I don't think this will be that good.

I like Steve Coogan and Catherine Keener, but this looks terribly unfunny. I think I'll pass on this one in the theater and wait for DVD.

this looks terrible to me, but with the subjectivity of humor i'm sure there will be a lot of laughs found in it for people.

I think the movie looks GREAT. The idea of someone making a Hamlet 2 is so 'WTF' the teacher would have to right something as ridiculous as he shows in the trailer.

I'm looking forword to a wonderfully un-PC comedy with a strong message about censorship and artistic expressio-- not really, I just want to see the entirety of 'Rock Me Sexy Jesus'

it looks allright but perhaps just an overhyped comedy but i'll try and catch it

I really didn't like it that much, which sucks because my friend is in it and I wanted his first film to be good. In fact, I didn't even think he was very good in it, but I digress...

The film just tries way, way, way, way too hard to be shocking and profane and over the top and funny. And for the most part it doesn't work. A lot of the time I just felt like Coogan and the rest of the cast were embarrassing themselves. I did like the last 15-20 minutes though, which I felt contained the only clever and actually funny stuff in the film. Amy Poehler reallly livens things up.

If you must see it, save it for rental. 5/10

I don't know. It looks like a movie trying to be funny through being politically incorrect. It looks like it's going out of its way to do so too.

Will wait for it on video . . . or cable.

It looks pretty dreadful to me.

Only one part of the trailer did make me laugh and that's when the actor playing Jesus says in costume that if his father knew what he was doing he'd crucify him.

I laughed at that line. But otherwise it looks lame and unfunny to me.

The reviews have been pretty solid so far, so I'll definitely give it a look.

Pretty lame.*That's unfortunate, but what was I expecting?

Didn't help that the projection/sound was off in the theater. :/

I think the idea of this movie will probably be better than the actual movie. I'm going to check it out anyways, it'll probably be a few good laughs.

I was impressed by the movie. It got a lot of laughs from the older crowd in the theater. 100%worth watching. SPOILERS

Raped in the face has to be the best musical interlude ever.

Saw it tonight. Some of the stuff was funny, but the ratio of jokes to funny jokes wasn't good. What was funny, was pretty damn funny though. Loved the drama chick in too, Phoebe Strole, she was hot.

Saw this last night and I didn't enjoy this as much as I thought I would.

The movie was rushed, the characters didn't develop at all, most of the characters were insanely unlikable, and most of the jokes were unfunny.

I give props to the writers for coming up with a creative concept for a movie, but they ultimately didn't pull it off well.

I do have to say, however, that the Rock Me Sexy Jesus musical number was hilarious, and you should go out of your way to catch that at some point.

Overall, I enjoyed it. It wasn't nearly as offensive and shocking as I thought it would be. It had some slow moments and I wish they would have spent a little more time with some of the characters. They could have taken out most of the David Arquette/Catherine Keener scenes and replaced them with showing us more of the changes the students do in transitioning.

There were some big belly laughs and I really dug the play once we finally got to see it. If only they had worked on the pacing a bit more...

Still a solid comedy and something I'll be picking up on DVD when it comes out.

I enjoyed the hell out of this, the whole 5th act is worth the admission price alone. The movie deserves better than it got. Oh well, it probably be a huge success on DVD and go on to become a cult classic.

yea its too bad this didn't grab more audience. Didn't even make the top ten for the weekend. I suppose when your main attraction is "Rock Me Sexy Jesus" you might not appeal to the general population :D

I'm a Christian and I wasn't offended in the slightest. It wasn't THAT wrong. Ok, maybe it was a bit wrong, but in a funny way. People need to lighten up.

I don't think people should be offended by Rock Me Sexy Jesus. Im Christian and I wasn't. I really loved the movie. Thought it was absolutely hilarious. Maybe it didn't go about it the right way for Rock Me Sexy Jesus, but it had the right idea.

9/10.

What the fuck is your problem?

The play itself is hysterical and brilliant! Especially Raped in the face and Rock Me Sexy Jesus. If only the rest of the movie were as good and inspired then we'd be talking about the best comedy of the year by far. Unfortunately I found everything else in the movie to be almost completely laughless. Seriously, is Steve Coogan's schtick suppose to be funny? Because I just found it to be desperate and stupid and completely unfunny. It's a hammy and singularly unfunny performance. And what the hell was Catherine Keener doing in this movie? Or David Arquette? And although she's very lovely and I liked her here, has Elisabeth Shue's career really gone this down that she has to appear in crap like this? She had a fairly thankless role in Dreamer yet even that would be preferrable to this. Plus, it's not like she has anything to do here anyway. Pretty horrible movie despite the brilliant play sequence. As great as that sequence is, it's just not enough to save this movie.

This was hilarious. Completely absurd. And I love how it never even came close to getting sincere or earnest in the end. Solid from beginning to end. I hope the full play is available on the DVD. Too funny.

The parts that I laughed at the most was when he was yelling at the theater critic who turned out to be a 12 year old kid. And for whatever reason, I loved when he goes "That's a lie! Everyone has rain gutters!"

It definitely had a bit of a South Park feel to it. Plus, I wonder how people in Tuscon feel about this?

It sure wasn't very nice to Tuscon.

Some of the stuff was funny, but the ratio of jokes to funny jokes wasn't good. What was funny, was pretty damn funny though.

Good assessment. I'd say there were a lot of things I'd classify as unfunny or trying too hard, but when it was funny, it was hilarious.

The actual play is definitely the best part, and the film was able to find great humor in some pretty original ways:

Amy Poehler as the ACLU lawyer:

-"It's a really good play!"
-"It's irrelevant."

The elementary kid who wrote such harsh theatre reviews.

The racist white drama nerd who "comes around" by the end.

etc...

Overall I enjoyed it, even if it was very out there. I wish someone would bring Hamlet 2 to Broadway, with that set and everything. LOL.

8/10 or B+
