Directed and Written by Tyler Perry
Plot: Wealthy socialite Charlotte Cartwright and her dear friend Alice Pratt, a working class woman of high ideals, have enjoyed a lasting friendship throughout many years. Suddenly, their lives become mired in turmoil as their adult children's extramarital affairs, unethical business practices and a dark paternity secret threaten to derail family fortunes and unravel the lives of all involved.
So this seems to be more Daddy's Little Girls and less Madea's Family Reunion. I'll probably give it a watch in a home theater capacity.

This will be the first Tyler Perry movie I will ever see. I like the cast a lot. Kathy Bates, Alfre Woodard, Sanaa Lathan, Cole Hauser and C-Note from Prison Break. Cool cast.

I hate almost all of Tyler Perry's stereotypical stupid fucking films, and his even stupider fucking terrible tv show, (I haven't seen Daddy's little girls).
The Madea films are some of the worst pieces of trash films I've ever seen, up there with Meet the Spartans, Epic, Date, Superhero, and Disaster movies.
But I fear that I actually thinks it looks decent, from the tv spots I'll probably end up seeing it on TV.

Well, Tyler Perry makes two types of films:
His Madea ones that seem to exist to please his original audience and to pad his wallet
His original stories which usually are pretty good but get stereotyped due to Madea.
This is the latter and it's pretty damn good, even if it is a little over the top at times. It runs a tad too long, but good characters and a great story carries this, not some guy in fucking drag.
7/10

I've only seen Why Did I Get Married? and wasn't really impressed. I appreciate that his films try to have a message and deal with issues from various standpoints, but acting wise the movie was kind of eh. I will have to wait for some more reviews before I make a decision to see this or not.

Fuck Tyler Perry and his racist fucking movies/tv shows. As a black person, I cringe ever single time a commercial comes on for that modern day minstrel show abomination that is House of Payne, and his movies aren't much better, just a bunch of recycled garbage with a handful of decent actors in horribly written roles.
Seriously, if I ever see Tyler Perry in public, I'm going to jail, because I swear I'm gonna swing on him.

Aside from a few corny and predictable soap opera moments,
The Family That Preys is a pretty good film about life, love, loyalty and friendship.Perry excels most in my opinion when he doesnt include Madea or characters that are beyond believable or some sideshow clowns.
Scale of 1-10 a 7 1/2

I hate the Madea movies. I saw the stage plays several years ago and while they were kind of funny, for the most part they were insulting. That soured me on him big time.
I managed to see Daddy's Little Girls and I enjoyed it. Then I saw Why did I get Married? I thought it was pretty good as well. I think I'd like to see this new one more than the previous two. Mainly because these are real people with fairly realistic stories.
The Madea shit is awful and should be finished, period. Same for House of Payne. It's a terrible show that make my ears bleed everytime I see and advertisement.
I'm hoping he continues to branch out a little and leave the Madea stuff alone.

Decent stuff. A step up for Tyler Perry, that's for sure, but still pretty over the top and melodramatic in places.
6.5/10
I really wish he'd give someone else a chance to direct. I really liked Diary of a Mad Black Woman but ever since he started to direct his own features, the quality has fallen into the "meh" category.
