Both had awesome earlier work, but I think DeNiro has aged better having better roles later in life, so I give him the edge in a real close race.

i like De Niro more....he's my favorite actor. Pacino is my second favorite. i think there are more movies that i like with Pacino, but De Niro overall is just better imo.

Wow... The Insider, Pacino's best? It's a fine performance, but I think it would have a hard time cracking my top ten of his.

And De Niro gets my vote, for the 100th time.

I consider it his best because of it's subtlety and nuance (which he hadn't achieved since Godfather), opposed to abrasive screaming and ghoulish smiling (which I do enjoy, immensely).

There's something too genuine about Insider to ignore. Mann's best effort as well.

Didn't we have this question before? I can almost remember reading the comments. Too bad I don't remember how I replied. Anyway, this is a question people have been debating for many years. It's hard to say who's ahead at this point because despite both being Italian and playing the same "type" of roles, they're both very different actors. I think De Niro has a better overall body of work, meaning he's been in better movies over all. But I think Pacino has given more memorable performances, almost iconic in popular culture. The only thing I can think of that can give the lead to De Niro is that he is more versatile. Most of Pacino's characters have major similarities and I don't think I've ever seen Pacino in a comedy. So because of that, I'd have to say De Niro on that point.
