I think this looks kind of genius, and suitably dark and gothic. There really haven't been many animated films this year, besides the masterpiece Wall-E (and Kung Fu Panda and Horton, which were both okay) so I'm always up for some quality animated work.

Meh. It looks okay I guess.

Although I have to say other than seeing the trailer once or twice, I've seen zero advertisement for this movie.

I enjoyed John Cusacks voice-over work in Anastasia, so I'm glad that he's back with a new animated film. This seems like the perfect film for kids & families this Halloween.

It's independently produced for 1/8th of what the usual production budget for a Pixar film would be according to the director .

He mentioned something about making this on laptops also , call me impressed then , this looks like the budget was much higher than he's claiming , and it's nice to see someone else release a cgi animation film besides the usual bunch . It won't need to make 200 mil plus in order to be considered a success , so i hope it makes some noise , it looks excellent .

I had some fun with it , it's an entertaining film , but i wouldn't call it a must see in the theater .

The voicework is excellent , the animation is eye popping most of the time and i loved the gothic atmosphere .

I didn't really feel as if they went far enough with the horror aspects , but i'm sure this was aimed at the youngsters so i can't expect a cgi gorefest , it doesn't matter though , it's adult enough to keep the older set intrigued .

The pacing was just about perfect , it doesn't slow down at all , the time flew right by and i never found myself getting impatient .

The story is no doubt a familiar one but it has a mind of it's own all the same and the characters are all well played and interesting .

Most of the jokes come fast and furious and i felt myself missing some of them , it never really lets up concerning the comedic aspects , almost all of it works even if they utilize the usual pop reference humor .

I would say , overall , it's a worthwhile film for people that enjoy horror themed cgi animation films , like Tnbc and Monster House , it features a wicked sense of humor , excellent animation , a great atmosphere and it's consistently funny .

I don't regret seeing this , but i wouldn't give it my highest recommendation , i would say it's a strong recommendation .

Minor Spoilers!!!

I enjoyed it, yet I was dissapointed with it. It could have been something really special but it fell short. The look is nice and dark. It had a suprisingly good amount of dark humor (lots of references to evil, murder, suicide etc...), and and some of the jokes were funny. But a lot of the jokes WERENT funny. Many of them fell dead (no pun intended) flat. Good voice work, good pace but it never reaches the heights it had the potential to reach. A sharper script would have made this the next Nightmare Before Christmas imo.

6/10

I agree i had the feeling that something was missing , it aspired to greatness but fell just short .

I got my money's worth , and i would recommend this film , but for a matinee price , if i paid 10 dollars to see this ( i paid 6 ) , i would have been disappointed .

That's not a knock on the film , there were some inspired moments and i loved the animation and atmosphere in addition to the dark humor , but i agree the script was somewhat lacking , it promised more than it could deliver .

I am cutting it some slack , because they made this on the cheap and it' was an indie production , i applaud them for crafting such a product in light of all that .

I do hope this guy continues to make films and perfect his craft , because it's obvious he's just getting started and we will see some great things from him in the future .

Since it was filmed on the " cheap " it shouldn't take much for them to make a profit .

The more i think about it , the more the film grows on me , i have to see it again in order to get a better idea of how i feel about this film .
