I love this overlooked creature feature. The CGI is respectable, the cast is upper-crust, and the pace is steady. I don't know how The Relic performed at the box office, but I wish that a sequel was greenlit. These are the films that withstand the aging process because they weren't tied to any trends or fickle Hollywood habits. For those who have read the literary sequel, where does the storyline go? I haven't read it myself.

I love this movie. I remember seeing it in theatres. When the swat guy was trying to climb out of the big room, and the creature was after him, this fat black lady stood up and started yelling at the screen. "Run nigga run. Go Go Go. Awww damn." Still is one of the greatest theatre moments of my life right behind some guy yelling "Damn, thats one fine motherfucker," to The scene in Bedazzled where Elizabeth Hurly pops out in the schoolgirl outfit.

Onto the novel. The sequel involved a string of Homless murders. It ends up that the old wheelchair guy, he survives in the novel, was mutated by the beast and turned into a beast human hybrid. 2 legged. Much more human, but still beastly. If I remember several people became infected by him and took over alot of the subway/sewer system. Good book.

Sounds like C.H.U.D. I'm not sure if that's a pro or a con.

Enjoyable, cheesy, scary -- I had many of those thoughts/reactions running through my mind when I saw the film nearly twelve years ago. And, it is the first film in theaters I saw more than once, at the time a record five viewings for me. I had a thing for Penelope Ann Miller, and Tom Sizemore is a good foil. It turns into a monster house movie, completely different than the book, but still relatively entertaining. I haven't seen it in a while, but I expect the fantastic Winson creation of the Kothoga (which sorta is like his Predator masked onto a big dinosaur body) to still hold up in the special effects department.

The one character they dropped from the book who I wished they would've found room for was Agent Pendergast. In the book, it's the interplay between him and Sgt. D'Agosta which really carries the story (which can be a little dull in the procedural/CSI/Michael Crichton sort of way).

I started Reliquary, stopped it halfway through. Never was a big fan.

I read the book first and just loved it so when I saw the movie I was pretty disappointed. The creature is different and a lot of the suspense is lost. I also remember not liking the FBI character as much. Maybe would of liked it more if I didn't like the book so much. I might give this one a try again.

Absolutely love this movie. Saw it at the theatre when it first came out. I'm a big fan of the creature features and I was not disappointed at all with this one. Gotta love Winston's work. Have since picked the movie up on DVD and still love it. Got a copy of the book but have never gotten around to reading it.

Overall, The Relic was not a bad movie, I haven't seen it in years, but from what I remember I was fairly entertained. Maybe I should give this one another watch.

I've seen this probably half a dozen times over the years and I can still remember the first time I watched it. Really loved it, the effects (while not as good now) looked great at the time and the cast is fun to watch running around yelling. I really liked the build up before the beastie shows up, I thought that was all done very well. Wasn't aware of a sequel wouldn't have minded seeing one made. 9/10

The novel is even better than the film adaptation which changed many settings.

And there's also a sequel and it's worth reading!
