As summer draws to a close, so do the laughs. It's Oscar season and studios know that comedy is hard to sell to them. But, even though The Dark Knight and Heath Ledger cast a shadow over everything else, this has been a good few months for comedies. In particular, this summer has seen three hilarious supporting performances from three very talented actors, all portraying extremely stupid characters: James Franco in Pineapple Express, Robert Downey Jr. in Tropic Thunder and most recently Brad Pitt in Burn After Reading. But which of them outshines the others?

Robert Downey, Jr. as Kirk Lazarus is freaking hilarious.

James Franco had heart and humour. My vote defintely goes to him.
The scene where he is eating a burger on the swing is the saddest/funniest comedy scene of the year.

Franco was great...however he was a second lead and he was great...but he had a lot more to do than just a supporting character and I think a lot of depth...so I vote for Chad...every scene, every line, every facial movement, everything was great..and truely a supporting character in that he made both McDormand and Malkovich funnier by intereacting with him...absolute gold.

1. Pitt
2. Franco
3. Downey Jr
Though I went with Pitt, it's actually VERY close between him and Franco. Both gave solid comedic performances. I went with Pitt because he was the best thing about Burn After Reading BY FAR!
I like Downey Jr, there was nothing wrong with his performance. My problem is more with the material than the performance. The performance was fine but what he was given to work with sucked.

hmm, while I haven't seen Burn After Reading, based on the other two options, I'd have to say Franco.
Downey Jr. was hilarious but I thought there was more they could have done with his character. Franco on the other hand had a more fleshed out character and more opportunities to be funny... of course I may be biased since I could relate more to his character and found a lot of the subtleties hilarious:D

Brad Pitt. Chad's attempts to intimidate Cox were masterful, and his penetratingly upbeat attitude throughout every situation in the entire sordid affair was great.

Gotta go with Robert Downey, Jr.
Though all of their performances were funny as hell.

I voted for him for the same reason. James was great to watch (I'm still impressed that he handles comedy this well) and he stood out in any scene he was in.

I havent seen Pineapple express or Burn After Reading yet, so my vote went to Downey which was a hilarious freakin role. But my opinion will probably change after seeing the other two movies.
