What do you think is the best trilogy ever? Choose a trilogy from the poll or post your own and tell everyone why is the best trilogy ever. And yes... I know some people will say "I’ll wait until the next Batman or maybe the next Toy Story comes out…"
*The poll allow me to post just 12 options but I know there's a lot of more trilogies...

Voted Star Wars, obviously. Godfather, Man With No Name, LOTR are also up there.
Another one I recently saw, which I really hope Criterion releases soon (they said they were going to), is Masaki Kobayashi's Human Condition Trilogy. Talk about soul-crushing.

The Lord of the Rings for consistency as I'd give all three 10s.
Star Wars originals in second place followed by The Godfather.

I voted for The Godfather. Even though the third didnt live up to the greatness of the first two it was still a pretty damn good movie. Cant describe how deep the ending to the third movie was.

I don't get the hate for The Godfather Part III. Other than Sofia Coppola's bad performance, it's a damn great movie! And a fitting end to one of the greatest movie trilogies of all time!

Lord of the Rings!! It's a toss up between Star Wars, but that LOTR trilogy set and beautiful layout with all that kick ass shit is so great!! Maybe when they release a full Star Wars 1-6 set, that will reign supreme as the coolest box set in history, but that's just my opinion... I've only been watching movies for 30 years.

Out of those I'd say LOTR followed by Star Wars IV, V, VI.
The only reason I didn't say Godfather is because of Part III.

Lord of the Rings, with Back to the Future as runner-up. Haven't seen all three Godfathers.

Torn between of Star Wars and The Godfather. But Godfather 3 sucked and the Star Wars trilogy mainatined it's quality through the entire run.

a year ago it would have gone to Indiana Jones. I'm putting my vote toward Star Wars (original trilogy) with The Godfather a close second... Man its sad that LotR is ahead of the vote.
I used to tremble at the notion of a Hobbit film(s). Now i can't wait. With a talented guy behind it (del Torro), we might actually get a good middle earth feature or two. Nothing makes me giddy like the thought that die hard LotR fans will take notice of a real filmmaker.

On that list the OG Star Wars Trilogy...can I vote for the Chuck Jones Bugs Bunny/Daffy Duck Trilogy?
Rabbit Fire (Be vewy, vewy quiet...we're hunting Elmers!)
Rabbit Seasoning (Pronoun trouble)
Duck! Rabbit! Duck! (It's baseball season!)
With the rest they fucked it up with 2 or 3 (or both)...the OG Star Wars is great and all, but it was so long ago...I dunno, I feel like movies have progressed...Indy would've been my vote had it been there (stupid Crystal Skull)

The Godfather.....the first two films were two of the greatest of all time. the third one, although not as good, provided great closure.
The Lord of the Rings, Back to the Future, the Bourne films, and the American Pie trilogy would round out my top 5

Star Wars from the poll.
Where is The Man With No Name Trilogy?
Only a trilogy in concept -- Clint Eastwood did not technically play the same character in all 3 films (nor did Lee Van Cleef in the latter two). Besides, the whole 'Man with No Name' thing was a marketing ploy dreamed up by the US distributors of the films, United Artists, since they came out later in the States than when originally released in Europe.
Where is The Terminator trio???? C'mon!
Considering it's soon to become a tetralogy, it's not here.
As far as trilogies omitted, how about Richard Lester's "Musketeers" trilogy (i.e. "The Three Musketeers," "The Four Musketeers," and "The Return of the Musketeers")?

This wasn't an easy choice, but I went with Back to the Future.
I love quite a few of them, though.

It's not even close , Lotr stands above it's peers not only with regards to consistent quality , but all of them were filmed simultaneously , that's an accomplishment in itself .
When i think of epic storytelling , this is the trilogy that comes to mind , never before have so many storylines and characters been utilized so effectively and on such a grand scale .
When you pause for a minute just to think about the detail that went into crafting middle earth , from the original armor to the set design , it's even more impressive . Sure , the Godfather films were good , but it was more of a narrative epic , the world was already there , Lotr was built from the ground up in order for that world to come to life . Sw is a close second because much like Lotr the world was entirely original and had to be built from scratch , and i still don't understand how Lucas did it without the aid of Cgi . I give the nod to Jackson though , he made a film that's basically 11 plus hours long and he maintained his vision throughout each installment leading to a terrific climax and resolution .
Lotr is the standard for trilogy excellence
The original Star Wars Trilogy. LOTR is a very distant second. Good, but it's still second.

I don't see many caring about that new piece of crap Terminator movie. It shouldn't count.

The original Star Wars is my choice. Personally, I've never looked at LOTR as a "trilogy" -- it's really one epic 9-hour-plus (or 11-hour-plus, if you're talking about the extended versions) film. I feel the same way about the book. Now if I did consider LOTR a genuine "trilogy," I'd say it's the best trilogy ever made in the history of cinema. But I don't, so long live Star Wars. ;)

The Godfather, no questions asked. The Godfather I & II are two of the greatest movies ever, and part III was a fantastic film too.
I've never seen LOTR so forgive me for saying this but that trilogy, like Star Wars, is far too unrealistic and nerdy to ever be compared to The Godfather. Step aside geeks, the Godfather was an entirely accurate account of the history of the Italian Mafia in America, so I can say without even seeing LOTR and only seeing Star Wars once that you can't begin to compare that fantasy nonsense to The Godfather Saga.

LOTR easily. They are the three best films I have ever seen. And I spend a hell of a lot of time watching films lol. Truly unbelievable. And I agree with poster above...LOTR AND SW are better than Godfather because they really are more original and set in a different world that seems so much more interesting....atleast to me.
PS. Nice avatar Strider......really is awesome to see MetallicA back and as good as ever.
