I rented Anaconda 3: The Offspring yesterday. Don't ask. To my utter shock, it was a fun time-waster. It beats the chloroform out of Blood Orchid. I didn't realize that there was a third film until a week ago. It stars David Hasselhoff, folks. Gratefully, the film doesn't take itself too seriously. A giant snake attacks someone in the first five minutes in broad daylight. Everything is WAY over-the-top. The first hour is nonstop comic book violence. The CGI is blotchy, but at this point, I wouldn't expect streamlined special effects.

Apparently, a fourth film will be premiering on the Sci-Fi Channel (where else?) in December. Man, where would the horror genre be without back-to-back sequels shot in Romania?

I'll be back later to give my opinion on the theatrical Anaconda releases.

The first film is a sentimental favorite of mine. It's basically a big-budget b-movie. The snake effects still hold up, the pace is snappy, and the oddball cast is fun to watch. Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Owen Wilson, Jon Voight, Kari Wurhhwrerhrwr...the casting must have been handled by stoners.

Anacondas: Hunt For the Contrived Subtitle was a flatliner. Zero action, spotty CGI, bland characters...this was an out-and-out stinker. It had a clean, professional look to it, but I can't believe that it wasn't sent straight to video shelves. I said "video shelves."

What is the general consensus on the first two Anaconda films?

I'm pretty sure the consensus for the first two Anaconda films is exactly what how you just described them. I know that's how I feel about 'em.

I like the first one as well. Its a fun little monster flick with slick effects and John Voight hamming it up like a pro. The CGI is still pretty impressive.

The second one blew chuncks. No action and probably the most annoying Tokken Black Guy I've ever seen in a horror movie.

Jon Voight is the SHIT in the first one! You just gotta love his over the top acting. The second one sucks.
