Gale Anne Hurd on the Future of The Hulk
Source:MTV October 24, 2008

MTV chatted with The Incredible Hulk producer Gale Anne Hurd, who said she has every intention on making a follow-up and that Edward Norton is signed on:

"It's all going to depend on the screenplay and where his character goes in any sequel, because he does have a multiple-picture deal," she said of Norton, who told us recently that he's waiting to hear from Marvel regarding Hulk's future. "[Norton's situation] is the same with every franchise like this, when you have one of the top actors of his generation."

But first, you're likely going to see him in The Avengers:

"Next, he's likely to appear in an 'Avengers' movie, but that's completely up to Marvel," she explained. "It's wonderful that Marvel now controls so many of their own characters, and they can create a Marvel universe in film and populate it with so many of their characters who naturally exist together. I think an 'Avengers' film is a very exciting prospect."

I wonder if this has to do with the DVD sales TIH has been getting.

Have the DVD sales been high? Thats good to hear, i lked the film up until the final showdown, though i felt the same way about Iron Man (the last halff an hour was like a transformers movie). I think another Incredible Hulk movie after The Avengers would be the best idea, Since they are talking about Hulk being the bad guy in The Avengers, the sequel after that might have Banner redeem himself. Not to mention The Hulk in general would probably soar in popularity after it is seen in a movie with Iron Man.

To be honest, i think The Avengers is going to be a very political film. Not in content, but i think Marvel will have an agenda behind it, they'll divy up the screen time based on the box office numbers by character, disregarding plot. Not to mention that if The Avengers fails at the box office, the director would be blacklisted from Hollywood forever.

I just wish Marvel would calm the fuck down and release these films with a few years between them, having everything up in two years seems impossible, not to mention overbearing.

I seriously hope you're wrong about the plot part. I do have a lot more faith in Marvel's ability to handle its properties better than the studios they've been farmed out to in the past. I mean, Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk were both in one summer and both were pretty up there on the scale. Maybe with the talent, financing and interest all available, now's not the time to "calm the fuck down." The raw story material for all of these characters has existed for years and now, and finally the people responsible for it - who seem to have realized a while ago that the old tongue-in-cheek approach to superhero storytelling just wasn't cutting it - also have the wherewithal to produce the movies. I'm happiest when I'm being cynical too; it always makes you feel like you come across as somehow more "informed", but I gotta maintain optimism here.

The Avengers movie would be interesting but only if they got the characters, who already have movies, and the actors that play them to come on board. I heard a rumor that Marvel wanted to make a film for each character to establish them to audiences who didn't read all the comics. This seems like a good idea to me which means it would be a long time till this Avenger's movie would hit theaters. Marvel is a little more intelligent with their own material so I would tell them not to "slow down" but continue putting out quality and if that means taking four years to develop a fanstatic story, then so be it. I'll wait for it.

On another note, I enjoyed the final fight scene in Hulk better than Iron Man. The Iron Man scene had Tony coming in already injured and wasn't 100% which I think was a mistake. He also got the crap kicked out of him and Pepper (Stupid name by the way) saved him, he did little to nothing to destoy Iron Monger. The Hulk fought his way to victory and did it was good effects and nice choreography. The Hulk was up there for me this summer seeing as the previous Hulk had sucked so bad and this one had Ed Norton in it. Very Cool flick.

That's a bit more than a rumor. That's what they're doing. Kenneth Branagh just signed on to direct Thor and both that Captain America have release dates leading up to the Avengers movie. Interest in an Ant-Man movie is rumored.

Here's the current release schedule:
IRON MAN 2: April 30, 2010
THOR: June 4, 2010
CAPTAIN AMERICA: May 6, 2011
THE AVENGERS: July, 2011

No, the less equal the fight is, the better. Every disadvantage that the hero has to overcome is another reason to root for him. In order for drama to work, your darlings need to hurt. Otherwise it's a video game.
