I know!!! There have been a few threads on this one.. When i first watched this flick i fucking hated it!!! But thanks to Showtime it has been running on t.v. for the last few months. So i gave it another chance. And i must say i really like this movie.
The whole idea of crawling thru those tight little holes and shit! That would freak me right out! Then you throw in those creepy cave creatures in!?!
That's it!! call it a day!
I also like how the movie progresses as far as the women losing it. It just covers so many fears. claustrophobia, fear of the dark, things that go bump in the night... Anyway i just want to say that i recommend this movie highly.

I only saw this once and hated it. Thought it was overrated as hell. Didn't care for any of the characters and the addition of the cave creatures halfway through the film didn't work for me. Don't feel like bothering to give it a second chance any time soon either.

Going to move this to Past Horror.

Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

I love that flick. The original, unrated ending is my favorite movie ending in the history of cinema. I'm not kidding. I really hope the previous poster based his review on the shitty theatrical cut.

I found this one okay, my main gripe with it is that it was too tedious in the beginning with a cast of characters I don't really care about. Once the actual action started it got better, but I would recommend Marshall's Dog Soldiers and Doomsday before this anyday.

Descent:2.5/4

This is one of the best horror flicks to come out this decade. The acting is top notch and Marshall proves that he is one of the best horror directors working today. I showed a group of girls this and they had nightmares. One of them had to sleep with their mom they were so scared. And these are High School girls. Pretty damn funny.

4/10

Incredibly overrated with an irritating first act and an non-scary remainder of the film. I only saw the theatrical version, but I doubt the unrated ending could improve it that much.

This is one of the nost infuriating films of recent memory, because it starts off so fucking brilliantly. It was all atmosphere and claustrophobia. Crawling through those tight tunnels while some unknown threat lurks in the shadows, the use of light only in context (no studio lights, only their helmet lights and shit) was incredibly unnerving and really transported the audience.

And then it just turns into a stupid, cheesy slasher.

This is one of my favorite movies easily, right up there with A Nightmare On Elm Street & Phantasm. Don't know where this overrated talk is coming from cause I don't think it is one bit, actually far from it. Great build up in story, tons of intense moments, one of the only movies in recent memory to actually make me jump, the creatures looked phenomenal and the acting/directing were both great.

10/10 (and I rarely give that score out)

I think The Descent was one of the better horror films to come out in several years..My only complaint was the theatrical ending but that went away once the Unrated DVD came out and I got to see the real ending..As for it being overrated I think if any of Marshall's films are overrated it would be Doomsday..I thought it was ok but from what I had heard from other people I expected a lot more

i LOVE the descent on so many levels

it was probably the scariest movie ive ever seen, saw and hostel and halloween really arent that scary, this is what i call an actual scary movie

i've never watched it with anyone who hasnt been absolutely freaked out, and ive seen it with a TON of different people.

but one thing i dont get is the end, well the one i saw anyway
someone explain it

she gets out, gets to the car, starts driving, wakes up with juno in the car, then shes back in the cave with the whole cake, daughter thing.?
EXPLAIN

The way i saw it was she never even made it out of the cave....

but i guess thats wrong, since in the sequel coming out she escapes, gets help and goes back in.

I think this is Neil Marshall's best.

A claustrophobic, violent, twisted, bloody, and even beautiful horror ride.

Seriously, this is probably one of the best horror movies of the early 21st century.
