View Full Version : Films that make you cry..

What films, if any, make you cry? Cry from fear, laughter, or from emotion ect. I love films that can make me tear up a little.

Just a few examples...

1. The Ring scares me so much that it makes me cry. I mean really scared!

2. Crash is another one that makes me cry like a girl. Especially the scene when the dude shoots a blank at the other dudes daughter, or the scene where the cop pulls the woman from the burning car.

3. The end of Lord Of The Rings "Return of the King" has me crying as well. Such a great story!

4. Pretty much any line from Walk Hard has me crying laughing!!
So yes I am a 30 year old man, and I still cry a little during films, so for all of the tough guys who say they dont cry, then good for you, but for those who do, what films bring on the water works?

Well, I am one of those emotional chicks, so almost everything makes me cry - damn estrogen.

But the big ones:

Cars - That's right, the damn Pixar movie. You know that scene where Lightning McQueen pushes the old race car across the finish line? Yeah. I need a tissue for that one. Every single time. Seriously.

Return to Paradise - Any scene of Joaquin Phoenix's character in prison.

A Perfect World - The end.

Dances With Wolves - when Sisco and Two Socks are killed.

Casualties Of War - the rape and murder scenes

I cried with my girlfriend while we watched Jonestown: The life and death of the peoples temple. Its a documentary and It's so fucking sad and it happened for real. I dare anyone to watch this documentary and not cry.

I also cried while watching Hope Floats, the Sandra Bullock movie, its all about that scene where the little girl wants to go with her dad and he rejects her and tells her to stay with her mom.

Gald to see some others cried at WALL-E

Clerks II, Chasing Amy, Annie Hall and Almost Famous are some other ones for me.

A lot of the West Wing episodes make me tear up.

Jackass II had me in tears from laughing as does Big Lebowski as did Burn After Reading.

The very end of August Rush makes me cry, call me a girl if you want.

Training Day had me feeling really emotional at the end during Alonzo's big speech to the people he's been controlling...not exactly tears, just...I dunno, emotional.

Million Dollar Baby as well on quite a few moments.

I may be the only human being alive that cried after watching Godzilla 1985!

Requiem for a Dream literally had me weeping when I first saw it at age 16. I must also confess that I cried during Titanic as a younger gentleman. The Fox and The Hound left me choked up several times during my childhood.

EDIT: I also have to echo others on The Green Mile and Children of Men.

It's weird, the two scenes that really get to me deal in flashbacks. There are others, but these are the ones that came to mind at the moment.

Narc - At the end when Oak tells Nick what really happened to his dead drug addicted partner/friend Mike. In my opinion, Ray Liotta was robbed of an Oscar for this film. His performance here, along with the scene itself is just utterly and painfully real. The moment where it really hits hard,is when Liotta's character is sitting over his friends dead body, freaking out going through 1,000 different emotions all at once. It was fucking impossible for me to hold back the tears.

Ang Lee's Hulk - The scene where David Banner reveals to Betty how Bruce's mother died. Everything adds up here, the haunting score, the cinematography, the look in the kid's eyes, etc'. It's a genuinely powerful scene, that never fails to make me cry like a little bitch. And it's one of the many, many reasons why this remains as my all-time favorite comic-book movie.

Yeah, that one got me too. Theres that scene in which Jared Leto is talking on the phone with Jennifer Connely which really got me. Its the scene where they are kind of like saying how much they miss each other and everything is so fucked up. So sad!

Also, theres another scene in which Jared Leto goes to visit his mom, and his like trying to tell her that he bought her a new tv but shes all high from the drugs shes been taken, so sad too.

Both scenes made me cry like a baby when I first saw em!

I don't know if I cry out of sadness vs just being overwhelmed by emotions. And I've noticed as I get older, I cry more often.

Finding Neverland - pretty much the last ten minutes

I Am Legend - you know what scene

Narnia - Aslan's sacrifice/rebirth

Zathura - When Walter makes his second wish

All Dogs go to Heaven - "You gave your life for her..."

Star Trek II - "Of my friend, I can only say this: of all the souls I have encountered in my travels, his was the most... human."

White Christmas - The General greeted by his soldiers at the end.

And I shit you not:

South Park - Kenny's sacrifice: "Goodbye you guys."

Braveheart - William Wallace Gf's death.

Troy - Death of the King [ed norton] I thought that was sad and also the death of the young boy by his mother.

The Elephant Man - the tea scene

Rudy - final play

LOTR:ROTK - Aragorn and everyone else bow down to the hobbits

Immortal Beloved - After the cellist turns Beethoven around(who is still conducting) to roaring applause for his glorious Ninth Symphony, he bows.

Copying Beethoven - Basically the same thing; but a wholly better scene.

Umberto D - the ENTIRE movie. How the hell could no one put this? Easily the saddest movie ever made.

E.T. - When you find out that he is still alive. And the entire ending scene.

Annie Hall - You know how it ends.

Lolita - And people say Kubrick wasn't emotional. Sheesh.

When these threads pop up every so often, I always offer the same unfortunate answer, that I am an emotional deadpan and have, to memory, never cried, nor come close to tearing, during the course of watching or thinking about a film, movie, trailer, preview, etc. While an obvious mark of manhood at 12, it's an almost disheartening facet of life now. Whether any future events willchange that, I cannot say. In fact, even as an enthusiastic Christian, I watched 12 friends wail in emotional pain during 'The Passion of Christ' while I sat, stone-faced and dry-eyed.

Thank you Sidebot!! I forgot all about the scene when Adam Tells his story in Reign over me. Holy Shit if you dont get a little misty at that scene, consider yourself a machine, like the one they beat down in that field in office space.

Bicentennial Man.

It's the only movie I know of that consistently moves me to at least wipe my eyes or tear up every single time I watch it.

(Which is one GOOD reason it's my favorite movie of all time among others.)

I haven't watched Wall-E yet (I will soon...) But are some of you crying because the robot is so damn cute or because something sad happens?
Both...something sad, something beautiful, he's so cute and it's allso emotional at the end for a bunch of different reasons, that you have to cry.

BTW M-O is really cute too.

The scene that gets me is after the trial when he talking to his in-laws about how he feels and he's like "look, you don't get it. I'm not forgetting them or putting them out of my mind. They're ALL I think about. I see my kid in ever kid on the street. I see my wife everyday and turn looking for her...even that dog! I'll see a poodle and think it's that goddam dog!"

I'd like to add this scene if I may. The ending of American History X.

SPOILERS IF YOU CLICK THIS (http://i33.tinypic.com/16gikgi.png)

That scene always manages to make me feel very sad. AHX is also one of my favourite movies. And I never ever tire of watching it.

I guess I should give this Big Fish another try. I remember turning it off shortly into the film. I guess it gets better huh?

Only two ever have- Atonement and Bobby. Atonement was soooooooooooooooo amazing, it was like my favorite movie for 2 months! And Bobby I was terrified that Lindsay was going to get shot, but then she didn't, so it was okay. =)

Marley and Me had me REALLY crying, not just tearing up. For like the last 10 minutes.

Love, Actually got me really going when the boy is running through the airport to tell the girl he loves that he loves her before she leaves forever (or so he thinks)

And having just watched WALL-E again on dvd (3rd time total) I think that movie will always have me crying at the end.
