View Full Version : Will Smith dissing and dismissing Scientology rumors...

WILL SMITH has brushed off reports his Hollywood pal TOM CRUISE has converted him to Scientology - because he is a student of all religion.
Smith, who was raised in a Baptist household, had his own faith questioned since striking up a friendship with Cruise - a well-known follower of Scientology.
But the I Am Legend star insists having security in his belief system has helped him become more open to others' religious practices without taking them on as his own.
When asked to clarify if he is a Scientologist, Smith tells Newsweek magazine, "No, but when people are afraid of religion they have to go back and get in touch with the Good Book. Fear of other religions means you're questioning your own understanding, and that's just not where I am."
He explains, "I love the nature of humanity's search for meaning. For me I'm certain about my relationship with the model of perfection of human life that's laid out with the life of Jesus Christ. I'm certain of that.
"I'm at home and not fearful when I sit in a mosque or a synagogue or a Buddhist temple, the same way that I'm home in the Church of Scientology. I like anywhere people are searching for the truth, and I respect their path and I'm intrigued by their path.
"I think when you are certain in and of what you believe in, you can open your mind to seeing the ways of others."

I don't understand a word of what he said.
I failed scientology when I was in high school.

I like Will, good answer. Though I don't care for any organized religion in the least.

That really was one of the best quotes on religion I've read. He gets double points awarded.

I don't get how people could think that Will Smith is a deuche-he just comes across as a down to earth nice-guy to me.

I was actually unaware that Smith was allegedly a Scientologist though, nor did I know that Smith and Cruise were pals, very interesting indeed.

He was hanging out with Tom Cruise, noted Scientologist and people assumed (myself included) that he was signing up.
I have my own personal beliefs about Scientology and out of respect for those who may follow it, I'll keep them to myself.
I must admit I'm glad to see that he came forward to clarify, even though he really didn't have to, but it was a good move on his part.

So, what, do people think that anything Tom Cruise touches turns into a Scientologist?

Did it go something like this:

"Hey, Will Smith, are you a Scientologist?"

And Will's all like "Ahhh, hell naw!"

I interpreted his statements as neither a yes nor a no.

Oh thank God, I was getting worried for a minute.

Although donating money to the church of Scientology is still suspect to me.

If I may ask, what is so bad about Scientology anyhow?

I'm no fan of Scientology, I just find it funny how it's somewhat socially acceptable to make fun of it as a religion, yet when people make fun of a religion like, for example, Christianity, people (even the non-religious) become offensive/defensive, stating you shouldn't "make fun of other people's beliefs." Well, I could list probably at least 1000 reasons why I think Christianity is crazy as hell, and they would be honest reasons, too, and I'll be called an asshole (and probably incorrectly labeled a "bigot" as well by people either too stupid or too ignorant to recognize the massive difference between disrespect for certain opinions and disrespect for the people who hold them), yet if I did the same with Scientology (or probably Mormonism as well), then I'd get people agreeing with me and even encouraging more people to join in with the bashing.

It just seems somewhat hypocritical to me.

Finally. I was waiting for someone to point this out. Fucking story behind Scientology is just realistic and Jesus' miracles. I really don't see much of a difference between Scientology and all the other beliefs held out there. The only difference being they each have their own messiah, and sometimes a different view on where death leads.

I actually believe in Aliens before I'd believe in the miracles of Jesus. I've never met a Scientologist that was any crazier than the average person. There just regular people and they have a goal of bettering mankind like so many other religions.

Of course some of you probably bash religions equally. This isn't addressed to you. At least you're consistent.
