Clint Eastwood, in a new interview with Esquire magazine, feels that America is "full of babies".

I'll go a step further: this country is full of pussies.

This goes to show one reason why I loved Gran Torino. Whethers you agree with Eastwood's statements here or Torino's similiar themes its nice to see in a film like Torino such a strong and intersting authorial viewpoint. Its so much more than "Kids these days."

Hell, I'm 22 (young) and I still think "kids these days are pussies"

Most people are a push over and let everyone else run over them. Or they can talk the talk, without walking the walk. I'm not saying people should fight- I'm saying stop giving into people, stand up for what you believe in while keeping a respect level.

Go Clint!

Clint Eastwood is one of my favorite actors and personalities.

As a 22 year old, I agree.

Eastwood's generation were pussies compared to cavemen. I'll bet Clint had fancy running water and even a goddamn automobile. Driving around and...and buying his meat at the grocery store. Neat and wrapped up.
Nancy.

Its so much more than "Kids these days."

No, it's exactly "Kids these days". :D
But I'm glad that Eastwood is still a hardass. How lousy would it be to have this tough guy grow up to become some gentle old man who makes movies about rainbows having play dates with sunshine?

For the record, I'm sure UFC fighters would tear Clint apart.

Ah well, perhaps it is. I would rather be a pussy than have violent outbreaks, which I sometimes do. The other day I hit a kid my age in the face at school, I mean he was a jerk-hole and mucho deserved it-I just didn't realize what I did until a few seconds later.

So not all Americans are pussies/babies, some of us have anger issues also. :p

Ever since Eastwood told Spike Lee to "shut his face", he has been in my good books.

While I agree that America has gone soft, I don't believe a revival of "not thinking to deeply" and mindless violence, and a complete throw away of all things "deep" and intellectual is the answer.

To me, kid's started being pussies, not when they started doing "all that thinkin" but when the parents started babying them...maybe the answer is to deal with your own problems AND think- at the same time. Like the ancient Greeks- they had it right. Philosophy during peacetime, ass kickin during wartime.

Eastwood's still the biggest badass around tho. I never understood the fuss over Chuck Norris- especially when they are men like Eastwood still alive.

Eastwood is a man's man - he's uncompromising in his stances on any topic, and doesn't mince words. I don't care how old he is, he'd still kick the snot out of the average guy.

I saw this thread again right before I looked at that Crying Men thread. :(:D
Don't put all the blame on the kids, dirty harry. All men today are pussies. Society doesn't allow us to hit anything. We can't hit each other, we can't hit women, we can't hit animals, we can't hit the smaller, weaker children, and we can't even hit trees. Did you know that on this very website, we aren't allowed to insult people, which is the internet version of hitting someone?

What did everybody expect to happen! Just thinking about it all makes me so emotional that I want to write it out in my diary!

I blame the parents. Parents these days are the real pussies and they've just pushed it entirely on their children to the point where they're kids become even bigger pussies.

Parents are over protective over everything and never give this kids the opportunity to grow up, thus turning them into either spoiled brats or gutless pussies. It's too bad.

Agreed. Kids should be allowed to learn by their mistakes and grow up, not have parents stopping them from making errors in judgement.

People rail on this new generation of parents for babying kids too much, but what do you expect? Regardless of our macho delusions, most folks these days aren't going to have to worry about starving. They aren't going to have to worry about putting a roof over their heads. They aren't going to have to worry about getting mauled by wild animals as they hunt for food, either, and same goes for Clint's generation. I'm aggressive with this topic because I had two parents who were raised by total hard knock military families. Their entire generation was. And instead of making them macho, it spawned the hippie generation.

My parents were very careful not to put the same strain on their kids, and god bless'em for it. I turned out okay by this hokey macho standard, so I'm reactive whenever people criticize good parenting. Last summer I spent weeks going alone for hundreds of miles all across the Colorado Rockies on a rusty old mountain bicycle, packing a tied-down tent to pitch when it got dark, with no money and no food but some dried oatmeal I took along with a pot and matches. And I didn't camp in pussy campgrounds either like all you truck driving atv'ing vaginas. :D
If that's not good enough, I've done a similar oatmeal-tastic adventure (also on a bicycle) through four of the bigger midwest states. In the winter. All of which sounds like one of those crazy things people with too much money do, except that I'm actually below the middle class financially. Which might be why I try not to drive. I bicycled through the states because I was looking to move, and this was the way for me to check out distant cities/towns/states. And I'm somebody who was raised without hardass paraents. I've commuted to manual labor jobs that were 80 miles round trip on my rust old bicycle, but clint eastwood would probably whine about having to drive that distance. All of which is my macho delusion that I'm tougher than all the people that have to rely on cars to get around, but the whole thing is bs.

Each old generation is frustrated that the new generation doesn't have to deal with the shit they did, and the only solace they have is that they're tougher for it. In fact, screw "generation"- everyone who has it rough is frustrated with those who don't, and their only solace is that they are tougher for it.
Whatever gets em' through the day.

When you have parents who have babied and overprotected their kid so much that when they're 20 and off to college they still have to call their parent every night to check in as if they were still 12 so the parents are sure that he/she is okay, something is wrong.

If you shelter someone from life they will never, ever have the strength or the know how to survive it. That's the problem.

You'd be hard pressed to find somebody who disagrees with that, although you're being a little dramatic here. You have to be in the lousy minority to actually have to "survive" this world. Like I said, very few of us will have to worry about starvation or destitution. Period. That's real survival. Getting along with your coworkers and learning to have a lasting relationship (if these were the things you were referring to) is just a neurotic human drama. It's not something to "survive".
But what kind of tiny minority are you complaining about as far as your 20 year-old children are concerned? Those spoiled brats have always been around. The only "big time" change I know of in parenting is a reaction to the tough military upbringing so many people had during my parents generation, which in turn made them raise their own kids less strictly.

If you're talking about parents raising kids in their 20s who can't go a day without calling home... I'm sure those examples are the minority. In which case they shouldn't even be on anyone's radar, right? There are always going to be the spoiled exceptions. This isn't a widespread epidemic. I get as "old man grumbling" as anyone else when I see 8 year old kids walking around texting on their cell phones (I just got my first cell phone a year ago!), but c'mon. Kids are always going to be kids. They might not have to worry about surviving in the Spartan wilderness as a test of manhood anymore, but nothing has really changed over these decades except, well, perspective. The only difference is that now kids want cell phones instead of gameboys, or gameboys instead of bb guns, or bb guns instead of...rocks...

Exactly. This is why Clint is mad people today don't have to crank a well for water or whatever the fuck people did back in the 30s and 40s.

Does having an iPhone make someone a pussy? Or not having violent outburts when something doesn't go their way?

Just saying "America is full of babies or pussies" is such a loaded statement, you can't really dispute it or fully realize what he was trying to say without further explanation.

If anything i think each generation becomes more sensitive and violent . I think what he means is that we are spoiled in ways that we never were before and some people expect other people to take care of their needs .

it would be silly for me to say there is something wrong with kids these days , a blanket statement such as that is insulting to the people who are actually taking care of themselves and forging their own path . look how many people are in the military now and are serving in a place where death is around the corner , i wouldn't call them pussies .

then you have the teens who are fresh out high school , going to college full time and working , that takes commitment and dedication , no pussies there .

of course there are punks always trying to scam out and get that free ride up to no good , but to say everyone is .

overall though , America in it's entirety is full of people working two , 3 jobs , sorry Dirty harry , not all of us can pay oppressive taxes and live decently without taking on added burdens . the one job , one person working in the home concept is dead , and we all don't make millions for acting in or directing entertainment vehicles .

so some of us bitch about the situation , but that doesn't mean we aren't going to jobs we hate and still keepin' on with the daily grind . sure it would be nice if we could make overrated movies about a female boxer , ww2 and some gang bangers and not have to work ever again , but only a select few can do that , sorry if we aren't as amazing as you bro .

pussies , no man , put upon taxed to death citizens who take the abuse and keep on chugging , yes .
