Dawson Annoyed With Los Angeles' Bad Drivers
31 December 2008 4:10 AM, PST

Rosario Dawson has urged Los Angeles motorists to take more care on the city's roads because she's tired of having to avoid airheads who swerve into her lane while painting their nails behind the wheel.

The actress was taught the rules of the road by her motorcyclist father and she's strict about what she does and doesn't do when she's driving - but is annoyed others aren't as diligent.

She complains, "I moved to L.A. three years ago, so the whole driving thing is very new to me... I'm really not big on being on the phone in general, but I'm definitely not big on it in the car.

"I always take the opportunity to listen to music and look around me. I like driving a lot. I've been driving and there's a woman wading into my lane and she's painting her toe nails as she's driving!

"People that are born in L.A. think they can drive with their eyes closed but you can't. My dad's a motorcyclist and I like riding motorcycles so I'm really aware of the road.

"I can't believe there are still so many people on the phone, despite all the laws. I mean, 'You can wait five minutes or go to a stop sign or pull over, or wait 20 minutes to get to the location to send a text?'"

Gawd I love this girl! And I definitely know where she is coming from. I have family that lives in LA and the traffic there is hell.
I now live in Atlanta and the traffic there is almost as bad as LA ( bigred knows this). There are so many fucking morons on their cellphones or texting its ridiculous!

There's god awful drivers pretty much everywhere I've been. You even go in the middle of the country and some asshole in a tractor will do some dipshit move. In related news, Joey Lauren Adams hates bowel obstructions.

People who do their nails and make-up (among other things) when driving should be beaten. What sufficient reason could you have?!

I've seen/heard of people READING while they drive as well... Not maps, but books/periodicals. What the hell?!

Anyway, Rosario Dawson... Cool lady. Doesn't she reportedly speak Klingon? Hawt.

Another reason why I love Rosario Dawson.

Considering she's gone from new York, where there are probably the most aggressive drivers, I can see where she'd be extremely annoyed, especially since she's said she rides motorcycles. In NYC you gotta ride defensively when you're riding those or else its your life. But its tough even for the folks that drive cars. I don't drive, but when my brother and sister came in to visit from the boonies of Pennsylvania, they almost had a heart attack while trying to cross over the bridge into Queens.

But JJ has a point, if she drives in LA long enough, she'll be able to spot the idiots a mile a way and manage the LA roads like a seasoned obstacle course vet. ;)

So, Death Proof was sort of like a documentary for her.

Hey, guyz, it's not just limited to the States. I'm from Australia, and the shit I see almost every day on the road would make your hair stand on end [if you have hair ie]. I know how she feels, but at the same time alot of people who think that they're good drivers, aren't.

I hate stupid drivers. TONS are in LA. There are also a shitload here in Hawaii as well.
I find myself zipping past drivers just to get into "empty pockets" in the road so often now. I feel safer away from the idiots around here. Ten seconds of speeding saves me the frustration of countless no-signal lane changes that almost kiss my bumper, and fucktards that go 45 in the fast lane while texting.

I'm from LA, and I can relate completely. Pretty much every time I drive, somebody pisses me off with their stupidity. There's just too many people in LA and most of them don't know how to drive. It's not even that they're on their phone or doing their nails, it's that there's lots of stupid idiots in this city. It drives people like me crazy who know what the hell they're doing behind the wheel of the car.

If I was Tommy DeVito, there'd be a lot less drivers in LA.

Oh, how I love this woman.
I've got a bit of the road rage.

Seriously.

I DO!

Make up, nails, cell phones, conversations.
All reasons not to cut off Rusty on the road.

Trust me.

Okay, okay we believe you.

Would it still be called "road rage" if one of the parties (me) involved is a pedestrian? Either way, I've got a bit of that too...

She's right, and their road system is one of the most ill-conceived in America.

Not to say people up here in the northeast are great drivers (they aren't), but we can survive driving in snow and ice storms at the least. I have a bad case of schadenfreude whenever I hear of people in the Sunbelt getting in accidents at this time of the year because winter storms are like Bigfoot to them.

I know the traffic is bad in ATL, but I can't compare it to LA since I've never been.

I doubt Rosario Dawson is going to encourage anybody to change driving habits. Not because she's not inspirational, but more because of who she's trying to inspire.

Another thing she and I have in common. Bad driving occurs everywhere, but LA seems to be absolutely criminal.
