Here's a look at the Australian Box Office Top 20 for the weekend 4th - 7th July 2002.

(1) (Debut) MEN IN BLACK II
(2) (1) SCOOBY DOO
(3) (2) MINORITY REPORT
(4) (4) SNOW DOGS
(5) (3) SPIDERMAN
(6) (Debut) BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM
(7) (6) SPIRIT: STALLION OF THE CIMARRON
(8) (Debut) THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST
(9) (5) A WALK TO REMEMBER
(10) (7) I AM SAM
(11) (8) STAR WARS EPISODE II: ATTACK OF THE CLONES
(12) (Preview Screening) UNFAITHFUL
(13) (12) SPACE STATION 3D
(14) (11) GHOST WORLD
(15) (10) CHARLOTTE GRAY
(16) (14) ITALIAN FOR BEGINNERS
(17) (15) MOLOKAI
(18) (16) GOSFORD PARK
(19) (19) SHACKELTON'S ANTARCTIC ADVENTURE
(20) (New) HAUNTED CASTLE

I'm not that surprised at Men In Black 2 entering at number 1. I thought Bend It Like Beckham might make the top 5, after an impressive debut at 9 for it's preview screenings as well as all it's positive reviews. Importance of Being Earnest did pretty well first week and hopefully Unfaithful will crack top 10 next week, when it is released nationally. After 40 weeks in release Haunted Castle makes its way back to the top 20. Hopefully Snow Dogs will decline soon.

My goodness! I was just waiting for MR to get ahead of Scooby-Doo. It seems there's no chance. And for God's sake what the hell is Snow Dogs still doing on the charts!

Toooooo bad AOTC is out of the top ten. This film has grossed wayyy less than my expectation world-wide. though it's still doing great.

Do you have the total gross of AOTC so far? And please tell me it's done better than Scooby-shit. http://www.joblo.com/ubb/wink.gif

I know I am very upset that Snow Dogs is still around, especially in the Top 5. Yeah, i'm pretty sure MR won't be overtaking SD.

AOTC has made $32,965,468, after 8 weeks on the charts. SD has made $11,161,701 after 3 weeks.

Thanks for replying Jedi.

Very interesting top 20. Star Wars and Scooby Doo seem to be doing very well for themselves. Some of your films in your top 20, i have never heard of. But anyhoo. Keep up the Australian charts.

I was wondering how r your ratings over there. Like what r ur films classified. do you have PG 13 and R stuff like that.

murda, the ratings in Australia are
G - General Exhibition. Anyone can see these movies. Examples: Snow Dogs, Scooby Doo, Spirit, any cartoon Disney flick.

PG - Parental Guidance Recommended. These are the films that older kids to teens can see, that may have some content in them, equivalent to a PG-13, I think. Examples: Shrek, Legally Blonde, Men In Black II, A Walk To Remember, Star Wars II.

M - Mature Audiences Recommended. These are films that little/younger kids probably would'nt be allowed to see. It's suggested that it's for 15 years and over, but you can be younger to see these, it's just not recommended. This is where the more serious violence, language, sex and stuff like that comes into it. I think this would be the equivalent to both a PG-13 and an R. Examples: Spider Man, Crossroads, Minority Report, I Am Sam, Halloween H20, Romy and Michele, Ocean's Eleven, Shallow Hal.

MA - Mature Audiences 15 years and Over. These are films that you have to be 15 years or over to be admitted into the cinema or to rent them. If an adult is going with you to the cinema, then it's okay for people under 15 to see the movies as long as someone 18 or over is escorting them. These are generally R films in the states, and are the films where violence, language, sex etc are more extreme. Examples: Unfaithful, Scream/2/3, I Know/I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, Cruel Intentions, Jay and Silent Bob, Resident Evil, Thir13en Ghosts, American Pie/2, Scary Movie/2, Panic Room.

R - Pretty much equivalent to an R or NC-17. You have to be 18 years or over to rent R films on video or be admitted into the cinema. Examples: Fight Club, Seven, Showgirls, Bound, American Psycho, Eyes Wide Shut, Boogie Nights, Requiem For A Dream, Body Shots.
Though many people who aren't 18 still manage to rent them, mainly getting someone older. I would know, I am yet to turn 18, but have seen my fair share of R movies.

Hopefully I've been a help, and if anyone would like to know anything else, i'll try to help and if theres a particular film you would like to what it's rated, just ask. Thanks guys.

Well in many places you see the audience of the R rated films (18 in the case of my erea) ranging between 15 and 18. This pretty funny. ENJOY. http://www.joblo.com/ubb/smile.gif
