Now Lindsey (Goddess Of The Site), the rolleyes was not necessarily intended for you, but against attitudes in GENERAL when non-smokers get all judgmental on smokers and prefer to think of them as a "bad person" because they enjoy something that could be bad for their health.

I used to work at a health insurance company (very stressful), and they put out rules saying employees were NOT allowed to smoke at ANY time (even on their break), otherwise they would be subject to termination, even if they were doing it outside where no one could be harmed. Now some employees on their break would step onto properties adjacent to have a relaxing smoke, but NO, they said they were "leaving the grounds" on their shift, and would still subject them to discipline. This to me was the most Fascist bullshit I've ever dealt with in my life, and instilled a life-long distaste for anyone who has a problem with smokers and can't seem to mind their own business about it. If you don't smoke, God bless you then, but leave those who CHOOSE to smoke in peace...:)

I particularly agree with you with regards to all the other health risks that folks ignore and sometimes practically encourage on the boards. The amount of times I've seen comments like "she needs a tan"..."she's too pale ugh"..."eat a burger!" etc. etc. I don't think people really give a crap about Salma or her kids health...they just have a problem with smokers in general.

I personally wouldn't spark up around my Son. I limit my smoking to evenings...outside only. I haven't had one for the past 48 hours...but I'll light up whenever I fancy a puff.

I don't think what I said is that out there. If everyone is saying that people look less sexy when smoking, and then start bringing up, as reasoning, all the health problems smoking causes, then wouldn't you in turn be saying that not being healthy makes one less sexy? Maybe I'm misreading things here, but the health risks of cigarettes have been brought up at least a dozen times in this thread - a thread about why Selma isn't hot when she smokes.

Like I said earlier, this is all just a personal style choice, so people should probably stop it with the surgeon general's warnings about smoking. I'm not a fan of smoking myself, but I think it's somewhat dishonest to use Hayek's hotness, or lack thereof, as a platform to talk about the dangers of smoking. It totally trivializes the actual risks of smoking.

Of course no one thinks being sick is a good reason to say someone isn't sexy, and of course no one really thinks Hayek is any less attractive because they're worried about her health.

The study determined that marijuana smoke contained 20 times more ammonia, and five times more hydrogen cyanide and nitrogen oxides than tobacco smoke. In spite of this, recent studies have been unable to demonstrate a direct link between lung cancer and frequent direct inhalation of marijuana smoke. While many researchers have failed to find a correlation, some researchers still conclude that marijuana smoke poses a higher risk of lung cancer than tobacco. Some studies have even shown that the non-psychoactive ingredient CBD found in marijuana may be useful in treating breast cancer.

I don't know about my northern neighbors, but the mixing tobacco and weed thing is more of a European thing that's a lot more rare in The States, and I've yet to meet anyone who rolls in filters. I do agree with your point though, because of those same reasons - people don't filter weed usually, although bongs and vaporizers help tremendously. Something else is that weed stays in your system way longer than tobacco. So you have something that's, by description, a toxic substance, sitting in your bladder and kidneys, which is never good.

On the other side though, people smoking cigarettes usually smoke much much more frequently than those smoking joints. I'd wager, even by the most exaggerated figures of how much worse pot is, that a 3 joint a day smoker is doing about the same damage as a 2 pack a day smoker. I think everything kind of evens out when all the factors are considered.

Why can't smokers be honest about their habits? People smoke pot to get HIGH, regardless of health hazards. It doesn't make sense to get all uppity about "nasty" nicotine, especially since most of you folks probably eat fast food 2-3 times a week (myself included). And then there's alcohol. Cannabidiol is a non psychoactive compound of marijuana. Even if were true that it can "treat" breast cancer, I doubt the medical community would prescribe it as a rolled-up joint.
