The quotes by outsyder and john_rambo can be taken either way as they mention this being sad. As for the rest of the quotes, I haven't read anything proving otherwise, so I'm still thinking it's a whole lot of hate and or jealousy, in some instances, both. On second thought... That would make every single comedian ever hateful, with a few exceptions being purely physical comedians. MAD magazine would be held in standards next to Hitler's Mein Kamph, celebrities who get roasted by their peers would be seen as the most hated people in show business.

There were two comments I saw that were hateful, but admittedly I missed Trail Blazers post first time around. Just because someone voices a negative opinion toward something or something, that in no way indicates hatefulness. If that were the case, we all are hateful, and that's just not true, no matter how sensitively someone takes it.

I'd like to leave this open for discussion, because it's important to me as someone who likes to crack jokes (always try to be in good spirits but sometimes a little darker...) and like to also be and preach tolerance. I think labeling a group of people as being "hateful" just because you disagree with or find their comments harsh is taking things too far and overreacting. And I like to consider myself an expert on taking things too far and overreacting. ;)

Otherwise, I agree with your spirit --- I'm not one to rip celebs apart. I know there's a celeb or too that I have an extreme dislike towards more than others --- can't think of them, so that tells you how much I'm worried about it, but yeah - I agree with where you are coming from. I think hate toward anyone is really not worth anything, but beyond that, toward celebrities, people we don't even know outside their job and what gets filtered to us through the media ---- Yeah man, it's not my thing either. I agree. Hate is a very strong word and denotes something that which is extreme in nature. And if hindsight is any indication, I should have made that distinction more clearly. The question of good natured comments and malicious ones is a valid one. How and when do you strike the right note or is it a case of it’s in the eye of the beholder. One comment is good for someone while it's insulting to the other.

To be perfectly honest, I believe I made the mistake of being overly critical and took a few otherwise well meaning comments, negatively. There's a fine balance one needs to strike when sifting through something like this. It's what it all comes down to I think, having the right checks and balances. After all, you have to be able to joke about things.

Still, the basic premise of my argument stands. More often than not, it seems that comments which fuel such topics bare a negative trajectory. Why is it that people feel the need to berate someone over something so innocuous? How does something like this even become an issue? Or is it ultimately a case of self prescribed therapy, wherein you exercise your own unfulfilled dreams by criticizing someone who has realized theirs?

Surely, there are better things to mull over. In any case, to quote a fellow schmoe, “I think hate toward anyone is really not worth anything, but beyond that, toward celebrities, people we don't even know outside their job and what gets filtered to us through the media ---- Yeah man, it's not my thing either.
