Days after MI5 announce that the likelihood of an attack has been raised to "critical", the killing of two soldiers plunges the twelve year armistice back into the past.

And so it begins again.

That most leveling element of history...when the lapse of a single moment affects a nation's history.

I would like to hope that the people of Northern Ireland are not so far removed from the memory of sectarian violence that they dive right back into it full force after this event.

If the Omagh bombing didn't send things back to "business as usual", I'd like to think this wouldn't either. But Omagh only happened months after the GFA, so we'll just have to wait and see.
