With Toy Story 3 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0435761/) in the works, what are your thoughts? I don't think anything could do better than Toy Story 2, but that's just my opinion. And the plot of being dropped off at a day care center after Andy goes away to college? There are places you can go with that I guess, but will it be worth it? Your thoughts?

I'm encouraged. The first two were brilliant and hopefully the same geniuses who were behind them are back for the third. I don't think the first two's stories were the reason they were so great, but their execution was what made them so good. As long as the situations and circumstances with the characters and their surroundings support a good story, good laughs, good character development, and the like . . . then I'll be happy.

I'm sure it'll be a spectacular adventure since the same cast is returning and it seems Pixar knows how to make more emotional films (Wall-E and Finding Nemo) and I'm sure this thing will have Oscar written all over it.

I'm surprised more didn't comment on the return of Toy Story 1 and 2, re-done in 3D, to theaters and having a trailer debut in that for 3.
If I can nab one friend to do this (and I'm pretty confident I can :D ) I'm there. It's going to be amazing seeing both movies in the big screen all over again. Not to mention see a trailer for Toy Story 3.
P.S. I'm happy to see Micheal Keaton in the fold as Ken (Barbie's Ken)

If I'm not mistaken . . . Toy Story is the only Pixar movie that has gotten at least one sequel. All the rest have made boatloads of money, but have not even been considered for sequels.

I imagine that's John Lasseter's decision. He created Toy Story and Cars so it was probably his choice to push for one. He does hold some power at Disney/Pixar, considering he's the main reason why Tron 2 is getting made.
I really want a Monster's Inc. 2. I loved that one and it's got plenty of material for a 2nd movie.

Oh, it was definitely Lasseter's decision.
Cars is just by far the least interesting Pixar movie thus far, and doing a sequel seems to me like a waste of creative energy and practical expenses.

As for Cars. Its their weakest film, but its still very, very good. It grows on you with repeated viewings. Its a very mellow, down to earth flick and thats what I love about it. Im open minded about the sequel.

Haha, "some" power? He practically runs Disney at this point
Also, I'd say "A Bug's Life" is actually their weakest film. Everyone always forgets about that one. It was the one most influenced by the Eisner crew, and you can see it in the way the characters flatten out the closer they get to the climax. God forbid a Disney film stray from the cookie cutter formula it was using at the time. "Cars" may not exactly be the greatest movie ever, but you CAN'T fault it for being unoriginal. And God bless Lasseter for injecting some creativity into that company, even if it doesn't work sometimes.
At least they're not following in Shrek's footsteps (if you look closely, each tread mark is actually a pop culture reference).

Hell, I'm glad he saw something worth in keeping a Hand-drawn-2D animation studio up and running. Their next 2-D Hand-drawn one will be The Princess and The Frog which will probably be pretty good. Then Rapunzel...
And Yes to the following in Shrek's footsteps thing. It worked for the 1st movie but it's pretty worn out by the 3rd. I hope they change it up for the 4th movie but I really doubt that'll happen.

One word,...$$$$. Having a little boy I find myself more familiar with the marketing success of the Cars franchise than I'd like. Do you have any idea how many versions of "Cars" cars there are. As collectable toys they are pretty cool and detailed. At $4 a car they are SO easy to just keep buying and then wham, you realize you've got a butt load of the things.

Yeah, Cars probably made Pixar the most money OUTSIDE of the box office. Hell, my nephew has one of those little cars he can ride on that is made out to look like one of the characters from the movie-- and he is to young to have even seen the damn film.
Now that I think about it, my best friends one year old has the same toy.

I remember seeing Ned Beatty at the Superman Festival last year wearing a Cars shirt and asked him if it was a hint that his rumoured appearance in TS3 was confirmed. All he could give me was a subtle nod and half-smile.
The only concern I have on this is who will take over voicing Slinky if they leave him in.
As far as sequels go, Cars has made the most in merchandising...3 years later and there's still a row of diecast vehicles and tracks at WM and Target. I think TS3 has just kept up their products with the Buzz Lightyear series, but it's the first Pixar film I would like to see another sequel on aside from Incredibles.

Well that's certainly a likely reason. I wasn't aware of the amount of merchandising that went into Cars, though it definitely makes sense now that I think about it.
Still, it seems like from a creative standpoint, Cars is the worst option to sequelize. It's by a wide margin the least interesting Pixar film, and it also seems like there are others that would afford far more interesting sequels. Though I know it's got sentimental value for Lasseter, so I guess that coupled with the merchandising opportunities would do it.

No sequels!
While Pixar creates the best animated movies ever made, one think I appreciate even MORE about them is that they never gave in to the sequilitis that plagues the other CG animation studios, especially Dreamworks and Fox, who just keep re-hashing the same movies over and over again to make a quick buck. Thank GOD Pixar keep consistently churning out original material.
That said, they've already proven that they can really outdo themselves with the sequels. I mean, they were 100% forced to make Toy Story 2, and originally it was supposed to be some half-assed direct-to-video release, but Lasseter said "screw this; if we're gonna do it, we won't forefit our integrity" and they set out to make the best movie they possibly could, and of course the results speak for themselves. In that sense, I'm glad they're making Toy Story 3 and WAS glad that they were sticking to that one "franchise" in terms of sequels, which is why Cars 2 kind of disappoints me as a "step down" for the studio, because it was not only one of their weakest movies (but obviously still really good compared to most other animated movies released every year) but also doesn't warrant a sequel whatsoever. In any case, if they invest anywhere near the amount of effort and energy into Toy Story 3 as they did into 2, we're in for one hell of a good movie.
Also, I think it would be very interesting to see just how the film will actually LOOK; the first two films were among the first Pixar produced and so their look, while revolutionary, is incomparable to the levels of detail and depth in the animation that Pixar has achieved more recently in films like The Incredibles, Ratatouille and Wall-E. So it will definitely be very interesting to see this hyper-detailed animation style married to these classic Pixar characters.
Can't wait to start seeing some footage/images from this film...! Hopefully we'll have a teaser out as early as around the release of Up!

I've been skeptical of a new film. I have to say, the trailer did bring me back...
BUT, i hope the storyline with Buzz being re-set is minimal. Becuase it would just be a repeat of what he went through in the first, just in Spanish, and not as dramatic. This would enter Spider-Man 3 territory of going back to devices already covered for the sake of having nothing left to say.

the movie looks pretty predicable... even before I saw the trailer, I was thinking this is how the movie will pan out
-Andy goes to college
-Toys are sent to day care
-mayhem pursues on the toys as young kids torment and break them
- many attempts at escaping fail
- years pass, and after making many new friends, the toys decide to go all for broke and excape the daycare.
- they escape and an epic adventure happens on their way back to Andys house, only to find it has been sold to another family.
-they discover that Andy lives somewhere new, and go out to find him
-they make it there, and find that Andy is 30 years old, and way to old for toys. they are going to go back to the day care and accept their fate, but they see Andy coming outside, so they all hide in a box in the garage.
- Andy sees out of the corner of his eye woody in the box. Andy, over joyed goes over to the box, and discovers all hs childhood toys. He grabs the box, and brings it in the house
- we are in teh house, and we see that andy is now married, and has a son, who is 5 years old. Andy calls his son over, and shows him Woody and Buzz, and tells him that they were his favorite toys growing up, and now he wants him to have them.
- camera pulls away as Andy tells his son about all the adventures him and woody had over the years.

Probably so, but also Clark and Varney were pretty close.
You know what would be really good and really funny. Lets say Andy takes Woody with him to college(for some reason). Sid comes in Andy's dorm and says "Hi, I'm your roommate. Remember Sid probably doesnt even know Andy so both of them are just packing stuff. Then Andy pulls out Woody and Sid( who probably is healed from the toy lecture from TS1) takes a look at the Woody and starts to get flashbacks from the "so play nice" part in TS1 and starts to get crazy...
I think that would be funny.

The new trailer had me in tears, such an absolute fantastic trailer.
The storyline of buzz being set to spanish looks like it will be minimal, which is a relief. I have alot of trust in pixar, but it seemed a little 'used'.
I like the idea that they day care centre is a hell hole underneath it's loving surface. The pink bear ad ken look to be awesome characters. The little waddle that ken has was hilarious.
Pixar look to have made their best Toy Story pic yet, dare I say their best film yet.

Love the set-up and premise. Love seeing the old characters back. Love the gags: the movie really does look absolutely hilarious, and the trailer had me laughing out loud. Love the cinematography and stuff - it's neat to see Pixar apply their newfound prowess in shallow focus, camera angles, lighting and stuff applied to the characters from their first and most primitive feature. It looks touching, emotional, well-made, funny - I have a feeling that we're looking at another hit from Pixar (which is not very surprising, but still awesome). Can't wait for this!

I also caught the A113 number still missed others: http://www.slashfilm.com/2010/02/12/toy-story-3-trailer-easter-eggs-revealed/
I must say BTW, Disney I feel is not going to disappoint in their use of 3D for their tent pole films. Alice In Wonderland, Toy Story 3 and Tron Legacy are all films that look like they'll utilize 3D really nicely and not just to cram in there. Toy Story 3 is easily the best looking one to date and could really shine with the 3D.

I love the trailer. If there's something great about Pixar, it's all their easter eggs. The trailer is loaded with them with one such as this guy making an appearance (Upper Left):
:D i saw that when I watched it. Very awesome.
Toy Story - 11
Toy Story 2 - 16
Tory Story 3 - 26

Oh, forgot to chime in with my own age things. So...:
Toy Story - 6 (I didn't see this one in theatres as far as I can remember... I'm pretty sure I saw it on VHS at a later point)
Toy Story 2 - 10
Toy Story 3 - 21
Sweet. I love how almost everyone around here has made the passage from kid to adult between the first two films and the third one - and it will be interesting to see how that applies in the third film, especially since Andy has also made the passage from kid to adult between the first two films to the third one!

Heh. I was either 12 or 13 (I don't remember when in '95 it came out, so if it was before September then I was 12, after September I would have been 13) when the first Toy Story came out. I did see it in theaters.
I was 17 when Toy Story 2 came out, I did see it theaters as well, of course. And I'll be 27 when the third one comes out and I DEFINITELY will be seeing it in theaters.

My mom loves the Toy Story movies, and we've so far seen WALL•E and UP together, so she's going to come and visit me in NY so we can see our third consecutive PIXAR movie together! (not counting the period where I was a child and lived with her)

The trailer for this looks pretty good. The scenes with the toys look brilliant as usual though. I have complete faith in Pixar and the first two films are amazing.
I'll chime in with the age things as well and I saw the first two in theaters and will definately be seeing this one in theaters as well.
Toy Story - 7
Toy Story 2 - 11
Toy Story 3 - 22

This screened last night at SXSW, and apparently it's absolutely brilliant. Rave mini-reviews are all over the net.

Awesome news! I'm gonna try to hide from as many spoilers as possible but I'm still kinda in a state of shock that this is only a few months away from release already! I can't wait....definitely on my top 5 for 2010.
