Uhhh…Spoiler Alert? / Claude Weaver III
Yeah, uh, he’s gonna die. Sorry about that.

How do I know? Well the screenwriters for Beverly Hills Cop 4 kinda said he was. Yep. Him and everyone else involved, really.

Movie website CineFOOLS had a sit-down with Michael Brandt (3:10 to Yuma, Wanted) and asked about the film:

So with Beverley Hills Cop 4 we got a draft of the script and we kind of came to it in a round about fashion. The studio called and the producers called and said hey we just got a new draft of Beverley Hills Cop 4 and the writers we keep hiring keep trying to write a comedy and we don’t want a comedy. We want to make a down and dirty cop movie and then let Eddie be Eddie. With the original Beverley Hills Cop it is a really dark movie like his friend gets executed at the beginning of the movie. In fact I think it was originally meant for Sly Stallone back in the 80’s. It was going to be a hard core cop movie then Eddie came on and they kept the plot and a lot of the R rated violence and Eddie was just funny.

So what they said to us was they wanted to go back to that and Derek and I had written a script two years ago called Dying Day which was kind of a buddy cop thing set in LA with buddy FBI agents but it wasn’t jokey at all it was pretty hardcore everybody died in the end and it was the kind of movie/script that everybody who read it really liked but nobody was ever going to make it into a movie. Too dark. And they said they would like to turn Dying Day into Beverley Hills Cop 4. We could kind of see how that could work and we said that sounds great and we were all for it and we’ll tell you where to send the cheque and the studios said no we want to bring you guys in to do some work on it and turn it into BHCP4. So we agreed and Brett Ratner came on to direct and we did our first draft of that and while it has gotten farther and farther away from our original script we’re kind of in between drafting that and a second draft coming up in a month or so.

So there you have it. He does make an excellent point about the first movie though. It was supposed to be a serious action film before Murphy got involved, and if you really look at it, it still has those trappings.

Still that never stopped you before. So what’s going to win out: the reluctance to have such a classic character rubbed out, or the desire for Norbit to take a few lead vitamins the hard way?

Eloquents, rant away!

No way Axel dies. And can Eddie be funny anymore? I have my doubts. Just to be safe have someone write in some jokes or write in an animated donkey that uses Eddie's voice.

I'm sorry but you make no sense. Nobody as good as Murphy loses the ability to be hilariously funny. A few like Murphy (Steve Martin, Martin Lawrence) may lose the ability to choose decent projects nowadays, for whatever reason ($$$$)

But if they get the right writer, and if Murphy contributes to the script. they of course he 'can' be funny again. Murphy still has the talent, as do the others i mentioned. They just haven't used it for a long time.

and yeah, you couldn't of chose a different thread title???

PS. this story is BS

I have my doubts about this film being any good, i bet itll just be Eddie Murphy and Judge Reinhold doing a 90 minute long "Im too old for this shit" joke.

I have not thought Steve Martin has been funny since the 80's. His Pink Panther is just a joke. I also do not laugh as Martin Lawrence (another man in a fat suit). I have my doubts about Jim Carrey and if he can be funny anymore. Yes, Man did not clear $100 mil and came and went without any fanfare. Will be interesting if A Christmas Carol will be vintage Jim Carrey (Bruce Almighty) or over the top, not so funny Lemony Snickets. As for Eddie, I have not laughed at any of his work since Another 48 Hrs in 19 fucking 90. 18 fucking years and counting. I serious doubt he can remember how to be funny.

Perhaps you should re read the story. BHC was not written to be funny and Eddie made it funny. I forget what my original title was. Someone changed it and it seems better to me.
