Hey, I know that I'm getting too old to to worry about stuff like this, but anyone else out there insulted or just a little tired of JJ Abrams telling us that we don't matter to his idea of this "re-invented franchise"? I know, I know! I may sound like one of the Trekkie's or Trekker's that William Shatner jokingly(or WAS he?)referred to as having no life, but I ACTUALLY grew up with Star Trek. I saw the episodes when they were FIRST RUN, went to the conventions as a nerdy kid back in the '70's down in Louisiana and pretty much supported all the Gene Roddenberry influenced series and even the ones that weren't widely accepted by the hard core fans. I have also had a career in law-enforcement for twenty plus years, been married, divorced and helped raise two little girls that fell in love with Star Trek as well. My youngest daughter volunteers at the Vegas conventions. So, when anyone decides that "their vision" is what's important and that fans can either like it or not, I get a little insulted.
I'm not saying that the man isn't a good writer or hasn't had success with his shows. And that he's not the only one who "borrows" or sometimes blatantly rips off other successful peoples ideas. OR that all writers, including Gene Roddenberry don't get their ideas from previous shows, books or movies to expand upon. Just that perhaps he should show a little restraint when he talks down to the fans that kept the show alive long enough for him to "revision" it for his own profit. I was just as excited as the majority of the fans when the "reboot" was announced. I was blown away by the last trailer's special effects! I could have handled the updates and disregard of some of the concept even the complete change in the background of Kirk. What has turned me off of ANY support of the movie at this point is the arrogant lack of regard for fans of the show opinions by JJ Abrams comments.
I would think that if he had a concept that generated world wide attention, inspired hope in people all over the world, had gatherings of fans that bridged all generational, cultural and age groups for 40+ years, he might be insulted by someone disregarding those peoples feelings or support.
I'm just wondering if any other fans are feeling the same.
