OK, i have two questions. the first one, most important, is what kind of video/computer equipment is best for filmmaking? i want a camera that can hook up to my computer that i can edit on. i wanna be able to edit sound, cuts, effects, everything. please tell me any info on brands, companies, etc.

second question: in my movie, i have two teenage brothers, Jack and Logan. They're from California and they're the coolest guys in their school. What would a good last name be?

Thanks.

Any MiniDV camera will work very well, provided it was a firewire (sometimes called IE1398 or iLink) port. The more you spend, the better a camra you'll get, so your budget will really be the deciding factor. IMHO Canon and Sony have the best reputations.

As for a computer, you have a big choice to make: Mac or PC. I would stronly recommend Mac, because although they are slightly more expesnive, the best (IMHO) software is only available for Mac--Final Cut Pro. This is a professional level editor that is relatively easy to learn.

If you go PC you'll be interested in Avid DV Xpress 3. It's the best PC DV editor out there, but I prefer FCP for a variety of reasons.

If I was starting out as a hobbyist, I would buy one of the new iMacs with the 17 in screen, FCP, and an external Firewire hard drive. The later is important because you don't want to store you date on the same hard drive you store your system files on.
