currently I'm writing a feature length film called Trojan which goes as follows: (v.brief)
Aliens come to earth in the future, they're refugees and we give them a place to live in antartica because we're so overpopulated, but the aliens are not getting along peafully and a guy (martyn) discovers a device to speed up one's metabolism and brain functions in effect slowing down time for him. Anyway he finds out about the alien's plot to take over the world. long story short he gets killed and the aliens do take over earth, but at the very end we realise that the aliens are infact us and we were colonising an slien planet.
anyway I don't really want any advice on that script, that just puts into focus what I want to ask. I've meddled with the idea of doing a number of storys set in the same universe but from different people's points of view, and I think this is a cool thing because I like the idea that we are free to chose and every decision is subjective. I was thinking that two possible 'sequels' to this film could be as follows:
1: Hostile Takeover - from a group of marine's point of view travelling to conquer the planet in a small ship for 6, they deal with their fears of what is to come and find comradeship in each other, then they finally reach the planet and realise the truth about war. This'll hopefully be a sort of cross between Lifepod and All Quiet On The Western Front and I feel will be extremely difficut to write.
2: Cell: After the war a resistance cell of the 'aliens' struggles to hide from their conquerers and still do damage against them in a vain attempt to win back their planet. This is very much based on the Bajor thing in Deep Space Nine, and would be very action heavy, could tie in things like die hard.
so what do you think? Is it a good idea to try and base a film in the same universe as another? Would these two ideas make good films as a trilogy and seperately from each other? Any other ideas on how I could return to the same universe?
thanks,
