So Chris Matthews had Pat Buchanan (god knows why MSNBC employs him) on to talk about the Mexican drug war, specifically about Hillary Clinton's comments that the US has to share some of the blame because we are the customers and provide most of the firepower...
And Pat's answer was that the real problem was the illegals coming over into our country. His solution? Build a wall and then have snipers take out anyone crossing over.
It's a pretty stunning meltdown that clearly left Matthews speechless.
WTF? Really, Pat? That's the problem? It never occurred to you that people might be crossing over because Mexico has turned into a warzone?

I never found anything this man has said to be of any relevance. He's just a crazy, racist bigot. Did you read his "A Brief for Whitey" column that he wrote? It was the insane ramblings of a confused, outdated old man.
I did like that he equated the Zee-ta's with "the guys we got in Iraq." Nice slip of the tongue there, Pat. :)
I wonder though, how would a sniper be able to tell an "abusive, robbing, raping" Mexican from somebody coming up here for work?

Cries of racism or radicalism aside, no one's up for sniping illegals. It's a waste of ammunition resources and, besides, we just need to stock the river with gators or else just raze the whole of Mexico.
Or we could just disband the ATF and the Border Patrol, let the cartels have as much of the Southwest as they'd like and push their drugs from there.
And as an observation, it seems the only reason this is an awful plan is simply the inability to discern between illegal Mexicans who shouldn't be here but cross over peacably and those illegal Mexicans who shouldn't be here but rape, murder and sell drugs instead of just wasting my taxpayer money.

you know, it never ceases to amaze me how people never seem to actually blame the business owners that hire illegal immigrants and instead seem to blame the illegal immigrants themselves. If there wasn't such a demand for illegal workers, they would stop coming - a point proven by the fact that rates of illegal immigration have deceased throughout the last year or so largely because of the U.S.'s economic woes - if they stop hiring, they will stop coming.
There is something I notice about American conservatism - it almost always seems to go out of it's way to lay the most blame for a problem on the most vulnerable group possible while going out of it's way to blame the least vulnerable group. Another example; the financial crisis. Rather than blame the lending agencies, financial institutions, etc. that made the bad loans, on who do they blame? on homeowners, the most vulnerable group having any culpability in the whole mess. The way I see it, they are the least responsible of all culpable parties because they were in the weakest position in terms of wealth, political power, and knowledge - same thing applies in the case of illegal immigration.
It really is unreal when you think about it They choose to attack the group having the least political clout, the least financial resources, and the least knowledge/power for the problems of illegal immigration rather than blame the exploitive greedy bastards who hire them in the first place.

It's kind of messed up too, because it always seems like the only people who get railed for hiring illegals are the ones who actually provide them fair wages and support - usually like live-in nannies, for example. The more slave labor-type business seem to always skirt. It might just be a perception though, because that's all that gets reported or all I hear about.

Well, it makes perfect sense if you look at it from their perspective. The groups that don't have any political clout can never defend themselves against the attacks. It's not like an illegal immigrant can go on TV and debate Pat Buchanan. So they'll keep picking on powerless opponents that will never have a face or a name simply because it makes it easier to push their agenda.

Oh it makes perfect sense from an economic standpoint for the businesses/organizations that profit from using cheap to try to lay the blame on the immigrants themselves in order to keep the heat away from themselves, it's just extremely immoral and unjust. It just frustrates me how many people don't seem to realize that these immigrants are very desperate and are being exploited by people in power & thus aren't deserving of most of the blame for the situation.
Illegal immigration is definitely a difficult issue with few easy answer - but Buchanan's suggestion was just insane. With Beck's crying, other's calling for armed revolt, and now this, it seems like these conservative pundits have become somewhat mentally unhinged since Obama's election.
I mean seriously the whole thing is just getting ridiculous. If it keeps up I'm sure people would be less opposed to bringing back the fairness doctrine.

I agree completely. I think everybody's unhinged because we're starting to see that our perfect little way of running things is unraveling before our eyes. People are complaining about Obama giving money to the problem, but we're screwed either way. If he didn't give money, the Right would say he should. It's all a game of being the naysayer at this point. No matter what your "enemy" does, you have to say he's wrong. And I'm not saying what Obama is doing is right. I know that every time we print money, we're only putting ourselves in more debt, so the idea of buying out our debt is just funny to me. Same as not having any regulations that many right wingers seem to favor.
It's funny that illegal immigration has been a problem with the country for a long time now, probably beginning just after the Mexican-American war. It's interesting to see the same arguments being brought up again and again. The anti-immigration fever me of those anti-Gay republicans who later were found out to be gay. You can talk all you want about anti-immigration, but if we got them all out, there wouldn't be anybody desperate enough to take a job that pay $5 an hour or $3.50 an hour washing dishes at the local restaurant. And the owners and businessmen would probably keep trying to find ways to screw over their workers rather than change their practices and give an honest day's wage. I'm never surprised to hear when managers downsize at their job and their pay magically gets a raise.
