So after finally watching Rambo: First Blood today which I really liked, which was from my brother's Ultimate Edition DVD, I saw it had an alternate ending. I was surprised.

ALTERNATE ENDING SPOILERS

Rambo asks the colonel to kill him, hands a gun to the colonel, forces the colonel to shove it in his chest, the colonel hesitates, and as he tries to move the gun away, Rambo pulls it back to his chest, the colonel shoots, shoots and kills Rambo.

You can see it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cg7wy4X0Y8c

END SPOILERS

I must say that was a pretty interesting ending to say the least and would've changed quite a bit about the movie as a whole (and the series obviously)

What do you schmoes think about this ending?

I never did like the alternate ending. Because there would never have been any sequels if it had been the actual only definitive ending to Rambo. The first film actually got a limited re-release at cinemas with that alternate ending. As a whole, I really like the Rambo franchise. It will be interesting to see Rambo part 5. John the farmer..lol

I haven't seen any of the sequels so I think that this ending would have actually went well with the film, although I probably prefer the one they used.

I liked it but Im glad they did go with the theatrical ending mainly because we wouldve had the bad ass movie that was Rambo if he had killed himself in the end.

Did anybody know that Kirk Douglas was originally set to play the Colonel but he backed out because he wanted the suicide ending to be in the movie

Would have been one of the worst mistakes in cinematic history if they kept it in!!!

Then we wouldnt have had three awesomely awesome sequels:D

I have to disagree with you guys on this one. Thematically, it would make more sense for Rambo to have died at the end of the film. From the sound of it, the studio bitched out and gave in for a happy ending.

I think the movie in general falls apart in the third act. The movie is pretty dark for the first two for the most part, and then it turns into the corny action flick that it's known as.

The ending might've been better if he had shot himself. For one, I think it goes more with the character, and secondly we wouldn't have had to watch Sly Stallone fail so miserably at pretending to cry.
