View Full Version : Have You Ever Used Movie Dialogue In Real Conversations
Hey Man

Have you ever been in a conversation, where you actually took direct dialogue from a movie - as if you were the one who came up with it and used it in the conversation.
I can't remember the movie or the dialogue - but I do remember arguing with an ex-girlfriend and some movie popped into the head as it had a similar situation as I was going through. I then said a line from the movie - word for word as part of my argument.
How bout you?

My friends and I are the kind of guys who see in movies like Knocked Up, Clerks or Spaced- We're constantly referencing shit all the time so it's hard to think of a time where we used the dialogue as if it were our own.

I've actually quoted Al Pacino from Heat a few times. One time I said to my friend while gesturing him to look towards a nice looking girl in a short skirt:
"She's got a great ass"
But I didn't complete it...lol
Another time I asked this customer in my shop:
"That'll be all sir?" (last of the mohicans)
When they were coming through the checkout and n stuff.
Oh yeah, one time my stoned mates was like talking shit. And I asked him:
"Do you speak english?" (event horizon)
So, you could say that I do make use of some quotes. But not in their entirity. I'll try and think of some others and add them lately.

all the damn time. Rocky quotes are a given whenever me and my friends hang out. "Get off my lawn." is a staple in my everyday life now. There are too many to mention.

I quote The Simpsons with people a lot... That's a movie now so it counts! I quote it as a deliberate reference and during conversation.
A lot of movie quotes I try to interject don't really go over well. :(

All the time. I tend to quote TV more, mostly old Simpsons, Family Guy and South Park, but a day doesn't go by, where I don't quote Blair Witch Project in some form.

Hell, when DON'T I use movie dialogue in real conversations? My friends and I basically talk in film quote speak, to the point that sometimes when we go out with other people they say afterwards that 90% of the time they couldn't follow our conversation one bit. One time we decided we'd try to make a list of every time we drop a movie or TV quote into a conversation but gave up after like 10-15 minutes because we ran out of room on the page. Yes, it's THAT bad. But it's all fun :)

I have passed of movie dialogue as if its my own but I can't remember a specific time.
I do quote quite a lot intentionally though, sometimes me and my little brother have full-on conversations using just Joker or Borat dialogue and I have friend who likes to do it with Arnie lines.

I don't mean joking around with your friends referencing movie dialogue. I mean taking real life situations like at work or with friends, family and relationships - where you spoke a line from a movie as if you came up with it. Not to reference it.

I started talking to a girl at a bar a few years ago, and she asked me my name. I said "They call me Dr. Love". Apparently she wasn't a Detroit Rock City fan, she thought I was weird. Oh well.
and music lyrics, but often times it goes unnoticed.
me and a few friends went to Applebees the other night and i said "we shoulda went to Dorsea, i coulda gotten us in" and of course im the only huge fan of that movie, so yea i got "whats that?"
sometimes, when they hit, you look like a genius, when they dont, you look like a total jackass

OK HeyMan I just remebered a specific occasion where I passed off movie dialogue as if it was my own. I came in to the house drunk once and my brother told me to get out. Apparently I replied "the only thing that gives orders is BALLS!" :D
Natty points for who gets the movie.

speaking in movie quotes is pretty much all I do, as many of you know that after seeing a movie a situation or topic is bound to arise that makes that little sensor in your head go off and remind you of that film
I can't seem to control myself and always respond with a quote from a film and usually nobody has any idea it's from a film so I'm pretty much a big thief
seinfeld quotes tend to be the most common ones though
the big lebowski is my number 1 quoted film though, hands down

At parties or such, I always take the time to give a toast with the "Champagne for my real friends, and real pain for my sham friends" line from 25th Hour.

I quote Big Lebowski and Resevoir Dogs all the time.
For example my friend fell down and skinned his knee pretty bad and after he was bitching about it, I say "Your gonna be okayyyyyy, say the goddamn words, your gonna be okayyyyy" or when I get a beer from the fridge I always pretend to stumble across the living room to the couch saying "HEY CAREFUL MAN THERES A BEVERAGE HERE!!!"

I know I do it a lot but I can't seem to recall any at the moment...
Whenever my friends and I do shots I always toast with a "Here's to swimmin' with bow-legged women."
Never gets old.

Heh. My fiancee and I use that one whenever we are with friends and one us of makes a stupid joke or remark or in-joke that others might not get. We did it last night in a bar in Edinburgh.
Anyway, I actually think most of my everyday speech is quotable dialogue from movies. I indulge it in some form at least once every 30 minutes.
My all-time favourite, though, is actually from a shitty music video:
When saying goodbye to friends and lived ones, I always say "See you in the future...if there is one".

Usually in brief situations, I use vague quotes. Ever since a Simpson's episode where Mr. Burns refers to it as such, at the movies I'll occasionally order "some of that... popped corn". Among friends, the "What in God's name are you blathering about?!" from Big Lebowski has come up. Generally though, there's really nowhere I could see it being appropriate. When I was younger I used to just look at people and yell, "Marty!" doing a really bad Doc Brown voice. That didn't make any sense whatsoever, but it was fun in a way.

I sometimes quote Swingers and Snatch; the latter mostly in joking situations.

"You're so money and you don't even know it" from Swingers is a big one. And "Forget about it" is a large part of my everyday speech largely because of Donnie Brasco. Godfather quotes and lines from Kevin Smith movies come out a lot too.
I find myself giving people Tyler Durden advice when they're being too materialistic
At parties or such, I always take the time to give a toast with the "Champagne for my real friends, and real pain for my sham friends" line from 25th Hour.

Pretty much every day...some staples:
When asked how I am: I'm super! Thanks for asking! (South Park)
When I trip over something: Have that removed. (Striped)
When I hurt myself: Balls! (Dr. Horrible) Fuck beans! (Jay and Silent Bob)
And whatever pops in my head in any given situation.
I was at the Dr. with a ear problem...the pressure was all messed up...and he said "Look. If I have a milkshake...and I put my straw in my milkshake." And I said "I drink you milkshake." but he didn't hear it and kept on explaining the pressure problem in my ear...it was awesome.
I had an English teacher of two who would say something like "Surely you guys could've done better on this test..." and I would respond "Well, it was a hard book and don't call me Shirley" pretty much every time...and this was maybe three times a year.
I'm just waiting for the chance to use this gem from Phone Booth, that hooker at the beginning: Ow. Goddamit, you done hurt my dick hand.

Also, just after watching The Big lebowski for the first time my friend and I got into Call of Duty 2 I think it was and there's a guy called Donnie that we used to shoot a lot and whenever we shot him, whoever got the killed yelled "Shut the FUCK UP Donnie!"

I was laughing for ten minutes after reading this, That was awesome:D
I don't really use much movie dialogue to be honest, I have been known to quote the occasional judd apatow movie though.
Sometime's I'll try and catch random people off guard by asking 'What's the first rule of fight club?'

From Back to the Future, when someone looks at me funny:
"What are you looking at, butt-head?"
From American Psycho, when I have to leave in a hurry:
"I have to return some videotapes."
I like that someone on the Halloween message board always uses Dr. Loomis' final quote in every day situations:
-"Was it a pepperoni pizza?"
-"As a matter of fact...it was."

I'm glad you were as amused as I was by that...it was a moment I'll remember for awhile.

what's sad is, it took me probably a year to even realize that meant "nachos" i may have even made a "what the hell does chos mean" thread years back, dont remember
