Anyone else seen this? I had heard of it a few times but never really thought about it, but then it grabbed me so I blind bought it. It is a very interesting movie. Not by any means the greatest movie of all times, but it kept me hooked for the 90 minutes it ran. As a lover of almost all music through the 20th century, the way all the types were used throughout were very good. Sure, some of the stories seemed a little rushed and unresolved, but I also think Bakshi did a good job in telling them for such a little time frame. I especially liked the whole gangland segment of the movie, though the 60's one also was a favorite. I thought the use of rotoscope was really good in this one, as I do not know if it would have worked as well in normal film (much like A Scanner Darkly). I am a fan of movies that dare to be different, and this is sure one of those movies! Anyone else seen this?

Oh sure, good ol' "American Pop". It's trippy and it wants to flow more than it actually does but the rotoscoping is pretty cool overall. Some of the images have stayed with me over the years since I've seen it.

The only real problem I had with the movie then and now is the for a movie called American Pop and for it to be supposedly about just that, it almost totally takes black music out of the equation. Everyone knows R&B is where rock came from but if this movie was your only point of reference on the matter, you'd think it all came from Tin Pan Alley.
