This was on Countdown tonight (David Schuster hosting). Probably the best video about these stupid Teabag protests I've seen.
For one thing, there are about 500 sexual references and/or puns made by Schuster ("tongue-lashing," "Dick Army," etc.), but then reporter Lawrence O'Donnel comes on and methodically rips the entire movement to shreds without breaking a sweat.
You might have to deal with a 30 second ad, but this is good stuff (and without even mentioning the Glenn Beck inspired book-burning lady).

I'm not surprised that many teabaggers are also birthers, if a person has such a poor grasp of reason and basic knowledge that they buy that birther garbage it's not a stretch to think they'd also be into tea bagging - if anything, it's a condemnation of the current education system.
"Fox News is supposed to report the news, not create the news"
I liked Paul Krugman's description of it as not a grass roots movement but as an astroturf movement. A movement lead by former congressional major leaders and a multi-billionare dollar media empire is not "grass roots" by any stretch of the imagination.
".. isn't it just a way to say to the money men, hey, at least we're doing something?"
"that's exactly what this is, this is so desparate that the people don't want to attach their names to it..."
Oh well, on the plus side this may give the teabag industry a slight stimulus and I, for one, have enjoyed the many tea bag references

Fox News is really going all out. They're just as serious about these events as they were about the run-up to the Iraq War.

I heard earlier that only an estimated 100,000 people showed up for these events - which is frankly horrible considering that there were hundreds and hundreds of different tea parties planned throughout the country.
Just to put this into perspective, after all the effort expended by Fox News, Limbaugh, and other right wing media organizations and personalities in support of these tea parties, more people showed up for the anti-war march - in Washington DC alone - an event which did not have the backing of former congressional leaders nor a multi-billion dollar media empire.
Can you say flop?
The reasons were many, the main one being a very flimsy, rather nebulous cause.

Remember how huge the militia movement was in the 1990s? I'm starting to wonder if it's swinging back in a big way. It kind of died with 9/11 but people are getting kookier.

http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2009/04/tea-parties-appear-to-draw-at-least.html#comments
A good follow up on the Tea Rallies by FiveThirtyEight.com, apparently there were 306 tea parties with a total attendence of about 250,000. The most attended rally apparently was in Atlanta with 7,000 showing up.
More than was orginally thought but I still think this was a fairly small turnout considering the hype that went into these things.
A friend of mine sent me some pics of the protests that featured signs with such messages as "stop murdering babies"!! or ones questioning Obama's citizenship, again, not tax related at all and it confirms my suspicion that this was basicially a grievance fest for the right. Oone sign said "No to taxes, yes on defence" (because those things aren't related at all) & another featured an old women carrying a sign that said "zero taxes!!", no doubt she was on her way to pick up her social security cheque after the protest, completely unaware of her own hypocrisy.
Considering Obama's latest approval rating in the most recent Gallup poll was 63% they should get used to nursing grievances...
Seriously, does anyone think this was anything but a chance for conservatives to vent about their election loss? As far as I'm concerned, it was a big "waaaaaa!!!' fest by sore losers and thus deserving of mockery.

It always swings back this way doesn't it? Don't be surprised when some right-wing inspired asshole blows up a building again like Oklahoma City. Then watch as Faux News tries to twist it and make it Obama's fault somehow.
It does just seem like a sore-loser bitch fest from these "Teabagging" D-bags. Was watching Rachel Maddow yesterday, and she pointed out that many of these events were taking place in..public parks. Where does the money for parks come from? Where were these people the last 6 years when our tax dollars went to blowing up kids in other countries? Also, I couldn't help but notice how many elderly whites were at these things in the crowds. Hey, I'd be more than happy to stop paying for their fucking Medicare with my taxes, hypocrites. The icing on the cake is that these events were organized by PR & lobbying firms that represented AIG and other bailed-out companies to begin with, hence the "astroturfing" over "grassroots" allegations.
In short, these people are worse than a usual mob, because they are a profoundly stupid, toolish, & misinformed. They've just proven that they will gather anywhere and do anything that Sean Hannity tells them to. I think if Texas wants to secede we should let 'em. Fucking rednecks.

I too wouldn't object if Texas suceeded - largely because it would forever cripple the GOP in the rest of the country - it would lessen their number of senate/congressional seats plus without Texas' massive amount of Electoral votes, the GOP in it's current form couldn't even come close to winning the presidency. Plus Texas could serve as the redneck-mecca and draw out some of these bottom feeders from the other states.
By the way, does anyone else love the irony involved in the fact that many of the same people who love to characterize their opponents as being unAmerican are now calling for succesion. Tell me, what could possibly be more un-American than that?!
Do these people not have the mental capacity to understand hypocrisy? I'm start to think my cat has better powers of comprehension.
The downside is that Texas would likely fail as it's own state and knowing the mentality of these idiots, who do you think they would blame? themselves? THEY NEVER BLAME THEMSELVES FOR ANYTHING! EVER! (it's what I find most infuriating about that lot) so their insanity would likely spread.
I think the best way to deal with this problem is to somehow subdue Fox News by say, bringing back the fairness doctrine.
Btw that report saying right wing extermists are a growing threat in the US was dead on. I say they are more of a threat than islamic fundamentalist at the moment - on second thought maybe not, but it has the potential to.

As for the d-bag teabaggers: I find it very funny they said and did nothing during the reckless spending during the Bush years. But Obama wants to tax the rich EVEN LESS than Reagan did during the 80's, yet here they go. But Obama is a socialist, so I guess that's all that needs to be said.

Turns out there was only about 250,000 people combined at all these protests, though FOX was glad to inflate the numbers.

HA! 250,000? Amateurs. There was at least 500,000 people who protested in LA for the May Day protest back in 2006. It was huge. I had to film it just because I've never seen LA's streets get that crowded: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFJdafPLEBQ

Actually, I think this might be the best thing written about the teabagging.
Greg Saunders:
Pouring some tea on the ground for all my dumb homies…
In the grand scheme of things, getting people to complain about taxes on April 15th might be the easiest thing in the world. It’s right up there with “eating ice cream on a hot summer day” and “laughing whenever Glenn Beck cries”. Bitching about taxes is America’s true pastime. So when a few thousand people gather on tax day to whine about their taxes (after getting massive tax breaks, btw), it’s hardly the second coming of the American Revolution. Hell, I remember a time six years ago when millions of people took to the street to protest the government. We all saw how well that worked out.
When their rallying cry is “Grrrr…I hate you TAXES!”, there won’t be a whole lot left to keep the tea bagging movement together after April 15th. Manufactured-populism and a fractured-understanding of American history will only take you so far. The great-great-great-great grandchildren of liberty will have to find some other crusade to motivate them like birth certificate forgeries or investigating whether Bo Obama was really a rescue dog. Sure, some die-hards will stick around like the asshole who keeps flipping through your DVD’s at three in the morning oblivious to the fact that the party is over, but within a few weeks, the only people left to carry the “tea party” torch will be the GOP & Fox News personalities trying to recapture the “good times” with all the subtlety and humility of Chubby Checker trying to get everyone to do the twist.
I’m going to miss the “Tea Party” movement. I’m going to miss the powdered wigs and the lunatic ranting. I’m going to miss the ideological uncertainty and the unpragmatic futility (seriously, you’re mailing tea bags to the White House to demand lower taxes after you just got a tax cut?). Most of all, I’m going to miss the jokes. These last few weeks have been a golden age for juvenile humor that passes for insightful political commentary. It’s a rare movement that chooses to describe itself with terminology that also means “testicle slapping” and those of us who relish in the foolishness of conservative activism will be much worse off for it.

Just protesting doesn't do shit anyway.
The whole thing would never work. 250,000 people getting mad over....what? You don't just need an organized message. You need a million people protesting in ways that passively disrupt things. Think labor strikes. It might be illegal in some or many ways, but you'll get people listening to you.

This whole "tea party" thing is one of the most astoundingly asinine things I have ever witnessed.
Don`t even get me started on the fact that the basic concept is false, since the situation we are in now is absolutley NOTHING like being under British rule.
I love how on these video clips there`s always some middle-aged white Joe The Plumber type saying "This is taxation without representation".
Uhhhhhh......no, it isn`t. Just because you don`t agree with the current administration does not make it "taxation without representation".
It`s literally like these people are just saying, "We`re Republicans, and we`re mad at Obama cause he`s spending money and stuff! So now we`re gonna reenact The Boston Teaparty even though it has absolutley nothing to do with the current situation!'
