what the hell is wrong with the movie studios today. it seems like all the cool movies i want to see lately only get limited releases. if the studios don't want to bother with a full release, then quit wasting our time and just put it out on dvd...it's such bullshit

I agree. I think Limited releases is the number one thing that pisses me off. Most Americans can't even see half of the best picture nominees before the ceremony.

I ran a poll a couple of months ago on 'what pisses schmoes off more', limited releases was far ahead in the poll beyond remakes, sequels and unoriginality.

I completely agree with you as well. My local theater rarely gets Oscar worthy movies and when they do they only play for 2 days. But movies like Hannah Montana or Fast and Furious we stay for 3 to 4 weeks. I've missed out on The Wrestler and Slumdog Millionaire because of this.

What is horrible is the Studio does it because they feel that it would be better for bussiness, and not lose a ton of money putting it in a mass amount of theaters

As much as I get frustrated with it, I gotta say they are just lookin out for themselves (as they should).

What would the point be to release say Synecdoche, New York in Stanton, Iowa??? No one in that town would have the mental capacity to understand that film lol.

When people from Glasgow went to see Mulholland Drive the ushers had to burn the theatres down rather than sweep up the dandruff from all the head-scratching that took place.

Um you DO realize how much it COSTS to put a film in a theater right? Prints are damned expensive - low budget films often cannot afford to re-print and even sometimes travel with the otirignal.

then just put it straight to dvd...southland tales is a perfect example...the studio was worried about the movie until dwane johnson signed on...then it does bad at cannes, they reedit the movie and put it out in 53 theaters..53 !!! for all that effort it should have been on dvd to start with

Uh how did they edit it BEFORE the star of the movie signed on?

And lots of indie films WISH they could get to 53 theaters. I think Bubba Ho-Tep was driving aorund with the original in the trunk of a van and going from city to city.

Usually the films are screened for festivals and put into theaters for award consideration - a lot of awards require the film be shown in theaters. It's just expensive to get movies into theaters, so studios do what they can. They can't bank on 3 guys who really want to see some movie they heard about doing well at Cannes.

Yeah, I'd be pretty pissed about this too if I didn't live in LA.
