Dom DeLuise Dies
Posted May 5th 2009 10:30AM by TMZ Staff

We've just learned that Dom DeLuise -- who starred in such classics as "The Cannonball Run" and "Blazing Saddles" and was the voice of Pizza the Hut in "Spaceballs" -- died last night in a Los Angeles hospital.

We're told he passed away peacefully in his sleep at around 6 PM.

He was 75.

he was only 75? I have a very inaccurate perception of actor's ages. Feels like he's been around forever.

I only saw him in a handful of things, Robin Hood Men in Tights being the one that stands out the most to me. Maybe All Dogs go to Heaven?

Either way seemed like a funny guy. RIP

Dom was a staple guest back in the 70's on shows like Mike Douglas-I still remember seeing his 1980 film "Fatso" at local movie theater-good film! and I think his best leading role. RIP 7811

Captain Chaos will never die , i think that ingenious and enduring character was probably his most effective work .

I still watch Cannonball Run 1 and 2 specifically because of his and Burt Reynolds endearing and hilarious characterizations of the poor dumpy shmoe and the steel chin stud , they played great off of each other in those two films .

You could see how complicated their relationship was simply by watching the outtakes from those films . It was painful to watch Burt smacking him when he mucked up his lines but you could tell they loved each other .

I always felt the Captain Chaos character was a brilliant expose on the regular guy who pines to be a superhero , an alter ego that comes to your rescue when you need it the most .

Deluise could do comedy in an effortless manner , he was the consummate everyman , a guy you instantly knew just by watching him . It's as if everyone knew someone like him because he was the regular guy template you could identify with . Short on looks but long on heart and an emotional honesty that was ever present in every role he portrayed .

To me , he is a legend in the annals of Hwood , maybe he didn't have as much talent as some of his peers , it simply didn't matter , he was basically himself , unpretentious , self deprecating , fearless when it pertained to comedy and his " faults " .

I love ya big guy , it's sad to see you go , and i'll never forget you .

Dun Dun Dun , Captain Chaos .

i don't care ...because ( bends down to change outfits ) ,( as he stands straight up again ) i've always wanted to be Captain Usa ...Dun Dun Dun , it's a dirty job but somebody's got to do it :)

Rip big fella

I may have to watch The Secret of Nimh very soon.

I'll follow that with Cannonball 1-2.
