Seriously, who else is sick of this dude???
I mean, I dont mean to hate but seriously this guy sucks.
A girl I know introduced me to some of his music and I vomited in my mouth a little bit. The guy is talentless.
I havent seen Twilight and definitely dont plan on EVER seeing it but there are rumors that this guy might play Jeff Buckley in a film (THE HORROR!!!). He also is supposed to play Salivador Dali in a film (WTF?!?!).

I made the mistake of saying the guy had no discernible talent on iMDB and the abuse I received was vitriolic. Somebody asked me to get cancer of the anus and die slowly.
I gave it some heavy thought.
It has not improved my opinion of him, but that's not his fault because my opinion is that he has done very little to receive such adoration or ubiquity.
And his hair is fucking stupid.
Stupid hair + perma-smug grin + rabid fangirls - proven talent = me no likey.

He went up a few notches in my book after hearing about him calling Twilight "wish fulfillment" for the author. (Still trying to get through that book, by the way. Oy.)

Eh, he doesnt bother me. His rabid fangirls bother me. I have to see him in something for me to make up my mind. And I aint watching twilight considering how much I loathed the book.

Yeah, his following bothers me more than he does.
I've got no real problem with the guy himself, other than his looking like a douche. Actually, I've seen a few interviews with him and Kristin Stewart (don't ask why, I don't know either), and they both seemed, to my great surprise, like fairly reasonable, down to earth people.
I think it's more the stigma attached to him by the Twilight-hating community than the guy himself. As for his talent, I have no real basis on which to judge outside HP4, having not seen Twilight or anything else he's been in, so I can't really say anything about that.

Really? Well I was going to say fuck this guy for being the real life representation to one of the single most annoying and infuriating fictional characters in recent memory but at least he has the good sense to know what those books really are; a "safe" masturbatory fantasy for teen and pre-teen girls.

Don't worry, Harry Potter is close to ending, and the women that have...uh...issues, need a new thing so Twilight and this whole bullshit is a fad.

I haven't seen him in much except for Harry Potter and unfortunately Twilight so I cant really bash the guy for being in a ridiculous teen movie actor, I will give him this the scene at the end of HP that ends with a loud thud was pretty sick he can play "drop dead" really well.

I can confidently say that I have put more thought into the politics of the ducks on my waterfront than this person, mostly because I have never seen anything he has been in, and that will likely continue into the future because he has yet to star in and is not likely to ever star in anything good.
I suppose my knowing who he is is a victory to his handlers, but that's neither here nor there.
He's one of a long line of boring actors that have their fifteen minutes, and being bothered by it says more about your inability to ignore crap than their lack of worth.

He's not a particularly great actor, but the film honestly wasn't that bad (though parts of it were tough to swallow). At the very least I don't think this guy should get bashed when there are much worse actors out there.

I don't think anyone could have been that good in his role in Twilight. Aside from that though, he's apparently quite good in How to Be, a low budget art house type of film that has seen limited distribution. I give him credit for deliberately seeking out some smaller projects, like that and the one where he plays Salvador Dali.

Like others, I don't like him directly, I'm just tired of seeing bandied around as the hottest shit around right now.
It doesn't help that you have to see his likeness at any media store you walk in. I mean hell, I went by a Borders the other day and they had a stand of Twilight stuff upfront and center, almost all of it with Robert's Mug on them.
Below is the said stand. And those 2 lines of figures are ALL figures of "Edward"

Meh. He didn't ask for this. I'm sure he'd much rather have become famous overnight by being cast as Spider-Man than the guy from Twilight.
What choice does he have than to expolit this fame?

1) Twilight sucks. So does his hair.
2) MAJOR cool points for him single handedly leaking the fifth Twilight book (which, BTW, is the first book - FROM EDWARDS POV) and completely fucking over its author.
3) He looks like a crystal meth addict.

I don't have anything personal against the guy, since he didn't rape my dogs, and it is rather unfair to judge his abilities on something as light and fluffy as 'Twilight'. I say we should sit back and wait a little longer before we can judge him so harshly as to call him talentless. He may be a complete rotter as a person, but don't we talk about the actor's performance and craft rather than the actor's personal life here?

don't hate the dude, I "nothing" him since I'm not familiar with anything he's done (I never got into Harry Potter or Twilight).
But I will say that I hate the rabid fangirls and, quite frankly, don't understand it. I'm not gay or anything, but when my female friends/classmates or sisters are obsessed with a dude, sometimes it makes sense, and sometimes it doesn't. I don't see the attraction of this guy. He looks like a druggie. If I woke up tomorrow looking like him (and didn't know that girls are infatuated with him) I'd want to kill myself.

Yea, I'm not a fan. I don't hate him as a person (though he does look like a complete deuche), but his fanbase. My step-mom is obsessed with Twilight (do you know how irritating listening about those stupid books gets!!? DO YOU!!?), and she even dislikes Pattinson. He does remind me of Zac Efron, and him/Kristen Stewart becoming the new Brad/Angelina/Jennifer of the National Enquirer magazines peeves me even more. Actually, I do hate Pattinson now that I think about it...
But Kristen Stewart's still cute. :D

I can't believe somebody thought it would be good idea to cast him as Salvador Dali. I saw the preview for it and it looked atrocious. I can already tell the acting is going to be laughed at. I don't know what compelled a British company to make that movie if they are going to severely fuck up the adaptation of the artists' lives. The story itself seemed more geared towards a filmmaker like Pedro Almodovar. It just seems like a Dali film would benefit more from casting a Spanish actor. It's like if Soderbergh got a white American to play Che.

Oh shit, is that who he is playing in that pic? That sucks.
I would love to see a good Salvador Dali biopic, something experimental and surreal in an art form sense much like Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters was. I guess this film is not going to be that.
I also just looked Dali up on imdb and found out that Antonio Banderas is set to play him next year.

I had the hunch you were being tongue in cheek you mischievous bastard.
But I did it in an annoying way. I was just ambiguous enough to guarantee that somebody somewhere would take it seriously and be a dick about it, so that afterward I could go "LOL MAN JUST JOKING TAKE A CHILL PILL HAHA I GOT YOU SNAP". I hate when people set down lame argumentative traps like that (unless I'm the one doing it). It's not funny, it's not clever, and it distracts everyone for a few minutes while some douchebag like me gives them a reacharound to make himself feel witty.
Back to this dude.

I'm openminded about movie boy toys now that I'm almost over that age range where girls are flipping out for them. I don't usually have to deal with its shit in my own demographic. I also remember how everybody trashed DiCaprio back when Titanic came out. Except DiCaprio didn't later star in Titanic 2, 3, and 4, so I have a feeling Pattinson might have just signed his typecast document. But he's a good looking guy and he comes across charming in interviews, and being as I am someone who strives to be good looking and come across charming in interviews, I like what I've seen of him.
I'm going to take two steps back.
Fuck Edward Cullen.

Terrible artist also IMO, but I realise I'm in the minority.
I practically run through surrealism collections/exhibitions...they are my least favourite part of gallery trips.
I like Artaud and Man Ray though.

I'm not a big Dali fan either. I can appreciate how incredibly skillful he was an artist. His technique was very precise and clean, but I don't get anything out his morbid paintings or his religious ones later in his life. I think they look fine, but they don't do anything for me personally.
I definitely dig Man Ray as a photographer. I even dig the playfulness in Magritte's paintings and enjoy them much more than Dali's surrealism.

Woah woah WOAH. How did this thread turn from a totally legitimate Robert Pattinson-bashing thread into a completely bogus Dali bashing thread? Just because this idiot played the guy, that's no reason to start bashing one of the coolest artists of the 20th century! How can anybody NOT like Dali? And to call him a terrible artist? Nobody else managed to perfectly capture the landscape of the mind as he did, and if you actually look at his paintings in detail, you'll see that the guy also knew how do draw hyper-realistically. Nonsense. I'm not bashing him for that reason. I'm bashing him because I dislike the bulk of his work (particularly his paintings) and he was a notorious fuckhole.
Hyperrealism/photorealism bore me senseless too.
Every time I see one of his paintings in a gallery I feel cold and underwhelmed and eager to find something else that makes me feel alive again. Sorry if that doesn't commute.

Eh? I was just responding to BVC's feelings of Dali. It has nothing to do with Robert Pattison. I knew Dali long before I ever knew of that actor. I can appreciate Dali's incredible skill, but the actual subjects he delved in don't really call to me. In terms of surrealist artists, I appreciate Magritte's more playful tone and style than Dali's uber-serious paintings. I especially don't care for Dali's later religious period. As for his paintings of the subconscious, I think he did interesting things, but I'd rather spend my time looking at paintings of Francis Bacon.
BVC and I never said he had no skill. I think the opposite, but having skill is only part of my interest in art. In terms of having an emotional connection and interest in the subjects, I don't have much with Dali. I'd be more emotionally attached to Van Gogh's paintings, which don't have perfect technique but are more beautiful to me and actually move me.

I actually have to agree with jolanar... Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is my favourite film of the franchise so far (although that'll probably change come July) and I always thought that Pattinson, up until recently nothing more than "that guy who played Cedric Diggory" to me, actually did a really great job in that film, and I just hope that all this Twilight nonsense and his effectively becoming a VERY big, annoying, cringe-worthy turn-off won't hamper my being able to enjoy Goblet of Fire.
