View Full Version : Giant Terminator doesn't remind me of Transformers

I honestly don't see the similarities. When looking at the Autobots/Decepticons their designs are far more intricate and "sleek" looking. The Terminator in question, to me, looks like a T-800 without a head...which I'm sure they were going for.
Can someone just explain this to me? How exactly is the harvester Terminator a rip off of Optimus Prime? It just looks like a giant headless robot to me. I feel like this is just a joke gone bad that people now use to criticize Terminator: Salvation to sound smart. Or are we just complaining because Transformers is the only movie allowed to have giant robots? I think it's both.

I think it's this. It's a shame really, because Transformers was shite, and I don't have high hopes for the sequel. So yeah, I'm not buying into the whole Terminator= Transformers rip-off thing. If Bay wants to huff and puff about how unoriginal that makes Terminator Salvation, I suggest he takes a good look at his film-based-on-a-cartoon-based-on-some-toys.
And I'm not a Terminator fanboy- I approach Salvation with some trepidation, because the trailers seem to show most of the plot and because McG is a douchebag.

That's a pretty weak comparison.
And I agree with Hedwig that Transformers sucked and the sequel suck hard enough to be heard in deep space.
Just because it's a giant robot (Terminator) doesn't mean they're trying to copy the Transformers. Did they also rip off the Transformers with those motorcycles that are robots?
Whoever made that comment needs to think that comparison over.

To me it's like comparing Star Trek to Star Wars, and saying that they both have big space ships. Hahahaha...

I don't see the comparisons either. I enjoyed Transformers, am looking forward to the sequel. But the Transformers and Decepticons were a lot more colorful and shinier. For the few seconds we see the Terminator machine, it looks dark and dirty. Plus, I doubt it can turn into a car. I'm not going into Terminator: Salvation, excitedly too I might add, thinking I'm going to see alien robots that can change into cars. Whoever's complaining about similarities needs to get over themselves.

I never understood the comparisons either. I really just think it's an opportunity for people to complain.

Wasn't it just Bay that complained. Does anyone else really care?

Bay actually complained about this? hahaha!
When I saw the giant robot from T:S in the trailer, I didn't think anything of it because based on the future scenes in the previous Terminator films, it just seemed natural - almost like something I had seen before FROM a Terminator film.
What's funny about Bay complaining about this...
He makes a Tranformer movie, and includes something never ever, ever, ever included in any version of a Transformer story...
A teenage boy who doesn't fit in, gets made fun of, ultimately finds a larger purpose through the help of some strange friends, and along the way scores his dream girl...
Did anyone hear John Hughes or Savage Steve commenting about the similarity?

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one...
If you read the review on the main page about about the new T4 art book that was just released Ammon complains that the Harvester is a Transformers rip off. Michael Bay did make the comparison as did a lot of other movie bloggers and forum posters I frequent. I'm fed up with the fanboy complaining-for-complaint-sake. And I'm not taking sides in the Michael Bay/McG dick-measuring contest or anything, because I'm not entirely stoked for either movie (it'll take a lot to top Star Trek if you ask me), I just wish people would use their brains.

This is pretty stupid. The whole "Harvester=Transformer Rip Off" is pretty dumb since it's nothing like a transformer outside of it being a big walking mech.
And it's not like Transformers are that original either. Tons of Japanese Animes starring Giant Walking Robots had gone on even before Transformers, the cartoon, namely the Gundam franchise.
If a Gundam movie was made today, people would definitely call that a Transformers rip-off too which would the dumbest fucking thing to say, even worse than the one involving Terminator. big walking robots are NOT exclusive to Transformers, nor did they come up with the idea.

After re watching the first two Terminator films penned and helmed by James Cameron, the only giant Terminators I remembered in the future war scenes had tank treads and plasma cannons for arms.
This harvester is not even feasible in the war setting created by James Cameron. I find this harvester to be...inspired by Transformers. The similarities sans the transformation are plain as day (legs, arms, weapons from the shoulder blades, motorcycles coming out of the legs).
If I remember correctly, McG mentioned that he was aiming for the velocity of Transformers when he was filming Salvation.
I'm thinking Michael Bay has a valid point.

.shit that's every anime show, robots and girls who can fight in skimpy outfits.
I see the reasons for comparison but I don't think about the transformers that much I thought at first they were going bigger in the film as a way of impressing viewers but the director made something valid as to what they were meant for. I would have done something else but I'm remaining to be the only person who thinks it'll be something incredible.

I think the only robots that resembled anything from Transformers were those robotic underwater worms or whatever they were. Otherwise the giant robot nor the motorcycles looked anything like something from Transformers.

I love way too many giant robo animes to really make a connection between one movie's giant robot and another movie's giant robot.
