Disney has been mining the power of their live-action G-rated films such as The Rookie (75.2 mill.), Snow Dogs (81.2 mill.) and The Princess Diaries (108.2 mill.) Will you see a film that is rated G? Do you think that other studios will start producing G rated films now after they see what success Disney has had?

I'll admit I felt a little weird going to see The Rookie, but a good movie is a good movie. (BTW, Snow Dogs is PG.) The Straight Story and Babe: Pig in the City are great movies, and nobody should let the "General Audience" rating stop them from enjoying them.

But for the most part, when other studios try to emulate Disney, failure is the usual outcome. Look at other studios' animated output in recent years: Quest For Camelot, Anastasia, The Iron Giant, Hey Arnold. Outside of computer-animated fare like Antz and Jimmy Neutron, Disney's competitors haven't done so well (although The Iron Giant is terrific).

I dunno, I think The Rookie and The Princess Diaries were sleeper hits, and not indicative of audiences' acceptance of bland, inoffensive family flicks.
