http://hollywoodroaster.wordpress.com/2009/05/21/mcg-confused-by-discussion-of-%E2%80%98theme%E2%80%99-at-dinner-party/
A relaxed dinner among colleagues turned ugly on Wednesday when McG, director of Terminator Salvation, was asked by fellow director Darren Aronofsky what the movie “was really about.”
“He kept telling me it was about ‘these awesome robots who take over the world and explode stuff’,” said Aronofsky. “I tried to clarify that I was talking about the theme, but it didn’t seem to sink in. He just went off.”
According to witnesses at BOA Steakhouse, McG grew more and more frustrated with the conversation, eventually flying into a rage and storming out of the Santa Monica restaurant.
“I couldn’t tell exactly what was going on,” said waitress Cheri Grendell. “First McG was yelling about ‘high concept’ or something, then he was pounding the table and demanding that Aronofsky explain what the word ‘theme’ meant. Bizarre.”
McG tried to downplay the incident.
“Of course I understand that theme is a basic literary device used in all manner of stories, whether they be on the page or on the screen,” he said in a written statement released by his publicist. “The idea that a successful director and producer like myself wouldn’t understand theme is ridiculous. Terminator Salvation is obviously about the role of machines in society and cool shit like that.”
I'm assuming this is satire/a joke but I think it's funny either way.

Either way that's one conversation I would love to see.

Wow. What's amazing is that I can totally see this going either way - it can totally convincingly be either a satirical joke or for real, I can't tell for sure!

He was probably like: "Big fucking robots. What don't you fucking understand!"

That's hilarious. If you don't know what the hell your feature's about, you've got problems as a filmmaker. I bet McG shot back, "Yeah, well, what the fuck was your last movie about? A wrestler? You call that a theme? My movie will make more money than yours, so suck it Pie-face!"
This makes me like Darren Aronofsky even more.

Putting aside whether this little story true or not, are we really supposed to pretend that the Terminator franchise has some deep underlying theme that's not plainly obvious?
The first one had some interesting stuff about time travel, the 2nd had more of that plus some comment on man's creations destroying him (endlessly reiterated in the Matrix films & so forth). The 3rd had...the hot Terminator chick in latex :D. I haven't seen the new one yet, I plan to, but I don't expect it to be much more than an explosive summer action flick.
The Terminator films make better concessions to their story, setting and characters than most action films of their ilk, and there's a bit of philosophy and soul-searching thrown in amid all the carnage, but it's not something that has to be analyzed for it's deeper thematic meaning like The Seventh Seal or something, it's all pretty surface to me.

He calls himself "McG." He seems to be doing a good enough job by himself.

Just saw the movie today. McG haters can suck it because that was a great flick. Then again what is the world without snobish movie fans who only like what Oscar tells them to like.
But yea, the article was funny.

Haha good point.
I didnt know too much about McG so I took a quick look at his IMDB trivia page and it says he co-wrote the song "Fly" by Sugar Ray.
It took more than one person to write that shit???
i can totally see McG doing something like that.
"HURR DURR COOL SHIT"

Its about awesome robots that take over the world and blow shit up. Always has been, always will be. Everyone knows that.

Ah, yes, it's a figure of speech that you probably looked up to find that goldfish have memories that make ours look puny by comparison. Good for you, you can use google.

And yet you're still avoiding the fact that you were the one to start all of this. I guess it's nice hiding behind your sense of valor that you're sticking up for the little people from the big bad snobs. Oh, look at the time, I've got to run. The Academy just said that Terminator: Salvation is worth seeing! Thank Goodness.

Yeah, it was a little too unbelievable for me, but WTF... McG... It's pronounced "Mick G"? Is that right? For years I thought it was "Emcee Gee"! Whatever ... I'm one of those rare imbeciles who liked Charlie's Angels. The sequel was horrible. I haven't seen anything else he's done. I'm not a fan of the songs he's done videos for. I have no idea why him and Darren Aronofsky would be having a meal together. Nipple lock.

I didn't see him start a thing. He simply voiced an opinion. Is it a very logical opinion? Maybe not. But he didn't say anybody was snob. He was making a generalization.

The last time I checked, this was a site for... wait for it... movie fans. He's already been in some debates with people over films and was bitter with some people. So put the two together. It was a passive aggressive remark that wasn't simply a "generalization" of people who don't come to this board. He made his bed, now he has to sleep in it. What does snobbish movie fans have to do with the main topic at hand? It was funny to some people, even if it wasn't true or if the Onion had written it.
It's like going to a metal concert saying, "God I hate how metal heads can be such prudes." Obviously, that person is passive aggressively trying to talk down to people in the general vicinity. It's not like he made his comment in a vacuum. He made it on a public forum filled with movie fans. And I doubt very much he would have said it had a few of us not replied thinking the topic was funny.

That's how you took it. I took it as a guy saying he had fun with the movie and that sometimes critics and movie buffs can seem snobby with the constant hate they spew. That is, like I said, how I took it.

And here I thought THC was the one to come to Someguys rescue (or vice versa). Glad to see he is picking up new trainees.
As far as my comment, it was not directed at anyone in particular, not even Someguy because he did not really state an opinion on the article besides saying it was funny, to which I agreed.
So you can say I was being passive aggressive towards someone but I was really just stating my opinion on the subject of McG haters and the attitude of many who decry any action flick that is just that, a good action flick.
Sorry you took it personally but you sure put me in my place. I got my eye on you!

Using passive-aggressive techniques to refute accusations of passive-aggressive behavior.
I'm printing this shit out. If not for a case study, just for a laugh among people familiar with the term.

Don't you know, there's a buddy system here. We wipe each other's asses on a daily basis. Someguy calls up THC and then I call up Bubba when I'm feeling not-so-fresh. And then we have slumber parties at BadCoverVersion's flat. Reigh always brings the beer because he's good like that. Oh, it's so wonderful to actually meet civil people and have tea and biscuits and discuss how good our farts smell.
Of course, if you want to keep playing pretend, that's fine with me. This is after all a board where we all speak in generalities. And we don't ever read each others replies. We just post, hoping the people in the outside world can look in and find our comments witty.

But that's why he stormed out of the restaurant, Bub.
Seconds later, he returned with Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore and they proceeded to kick Aronofsky's ass "Angel style".
How they got the wires into the restaurant, I don't know.
