Just something I noticed I guess. I, myself, am in an interracial relationship right now so, it sorta intrigued me a little.

What? He actually managed to UPGRADE Vanessa Williams? That's truly baffling.

Anyway, I can't think of any, but I think it's interesting to see a couple white men with black women here. Granted, one of them is David Bowie (?) and Iman, but as a mixed child, I notice that most interracial couples are black men going with white women (my parents, for example). Society kind of leads us to beleive that getting a white girl is like an achievement for a black guy, so that's what they try and do. It's disgusting, but that's the way it is.

Ignore the haters, Echo. Obviously this is a celeb forum, it fits the forum, and is obviously of interest to some people.

Zoe Saldana is with a white actor.

Kristin Kreuk and Lucy Liu date white men.

Vanessa Minnillo is with that Nick guy (ex of Jessica Simpson)

Have you seen Robin Thicke's wife? stunningly beautiful woman.

Hitchcock had is blondes, and if I ever become a filmmaker i'm having my asians and caramel/black women.

Why wouldn't she be?

I mean no offence to echo whatsoever, but the thread is passe by about twenty years, and highlighting celeb couples who date outwith their own race implictly suggests that there is a deviation taking place - even if it was started with good intentions.

Better to just accept that we are attracted to who we are attracted to and ignore the obvious differences.

Silly.

In this day and age, I didn't realise there would be people opposed to interracial dating.

If the OP were bashing the scenario, then it would be silly. But he isn't doing that. He's writing on a celebrity forum, about a celebrity matter which interests him, and clearly interests others. What's the harm? who's been hurt because of this? what rule has been broken?

No rule has been broken.

I still think it is redundant to highlight who is dating people of a different ethnicity.

Again, no offence intended to echo.

I doubt anyone believes we're talking about a revolutionary matter.

Better to just accept that we are attracted to who we are attracted to and ignore the obvious differences.

What difference? why is difference a bad thing? I'm white, I prefer Eastern Asian women. Some black men have a thing for white women, and vice versa. People are attracted to the differences.

This thread is just as pointless as anything to do with celeb culture. So why do you specifically have a problem with this?

Reigh Kaufman
05-24-2009, 07:01 PM
Because, despite the good intentions behind it, it is/was asking us to acknowledge the differences with no context as to the intentions behind it. I simply asked why?. As in what difference does it make who fancies who and why does the fact that they are from different ethnicities matter?.

It was simply for clarification, and he did that when he said that he was dating someone of a different race and the topic interested him.

I still find it redundant. You ask why I care? I ask why you don't care?

P.S. You never did answer my response to your post in the Cannes thread.

Oh no worries dude. I appreciate all the responses. I swear I had innocent intentions behind it.

And someguy, interracial dating is still pretty "taboo" to a lot of people whether it be in America or Europe.

For example, I am now dating this black female down here in Atlanta, Georgia and we went for a stroll down Atlantic Station one night and you wouldnt believe all the cat calls and rude comments we heard from some really drunk dudes. We both laughed it off but a couple of these black dudes were saying some inappropiate shit.

Also, I dated this chick from Sri Lanka in college and she told me she had to keep me on the "down low" from her parents cause if her mom and dad found out she was dating some white boy, they would probably disown her ass.

Why would I mind? I'm surprised anyone got offended by this thread. Obviously some people are into interracial, others clearly aren't. Those who are presumably like to see it replicated among the beautiful people in Hollywood.

P.S. You never did answer my response to your post in the Cannes thread.

I absolutely understand. I can't remember the thread, but I posted about the night my life was saved by two CID officers investigating a credit card fraud at an off-licence. I was walking with my ex-girlfriend - Dawn, black - in Stirling high street when a group of white kids (and they were kids, but there was over twenty of them, in my defence) started racially abusing Dawn. I challenged them in a fit of rage and...two passing CID officers stopped me from being knifed when they left the off-licence only to find these kids about to kick the shit out of me. Two were later charged with possession of an offensive weapon.

I could have kept walking, ignored it, but as you can tell - I have a big mouth.

;)

EDIT: I found the thread - to prove I don't just make up shit, more than anything...

You're starting to sound petty. You asked me why I had an issue and cited exmples of your "open-mindedness" (you like Eastern Asian women! Amazing!).

I was talking to echo about a shared experience of how racism was pertinent to this thread and remembered a 5 year old post to show that I wasn't just making things up.

It's not "evidence". It's an experience we have shared, and helps me understand the point of the initial topic.

Who cares if you find it relevant?

Ah! one rule for the great Reigh Kaufman, a different set of rules for the rest of us.

Petty? says the man who replies with "so what?......so what?.......so what?". Or "why?" in questioning the thread as if the O.P needed your permission first.

And now you've cited examples your "open-mindedness" (you like black women and defend them against twenty strong hoodies! amazing!).

Oh it's relevant. I just found it funny that you run to your post history to prove it. That you feel the need to prove it, or to think that a past post does indeed prove it, made me chuckle.

Seattle is considered a pretty diverse and liberal city, but I've gotten that reaction when with a 'white' friend of mine.

Sanaa Lathan seems to have it for white dudes. She is always playing along side a white guy it seems like and she has dated some in the past. There are actually a number of these relationships, but oddly I forget about them. Megan Good used to be with Joseph Gordan Levitt.

There has got to be more black actors with white women. There also is Kate and Jon if you want to count them as celebs.

Why are people jumping at Echo here? I'm also a pro IR guy and sometimes I like to talk about couples when I see them. What is the big harm? I don't see the problem in talking about it sometimes.

Cuba Gooding and his wife.

Quincy Jones was once dating Nastassja Kinski

And more WM/BF: Aisha Tyler and her husband. Zoe Kravitz was with Ben Foster (but that's mostly about different skin color, as they're both Jewish race).

Taye Diggs is married to Idina Menzel (actress/singer).

I feel for Taye Diggs. This dude gets clowned on all the time in XXL and the Source or some other publications geared to the black community. He is hinted as being a "sell out" by many.

Does Iman really count? After all, she's a shape-shifter. She could be anything.

And on Seal... am I the only one that identifies him as being British before identifying him as black? Probably.

And on Roger Ebert and his wife, I've posted this story before, but I'll say it again just because I think it's so funny:

I work at a movie theater. These two guys come in to the movie. They are regular customers and in their late 40s/early 50s. One of them picks up a flier that has a clip from an Ebert review.

First guy: Oh, Roger Ebert... did you know he was married to a black woman?

Second guy: (somewhat distracted) Yeah, Condoleezza Rice.

First guy: Really?

Second guy: Yeah.

First guy: What?

Second guy: What?

That was when they realized they were having two different conversations. Always cracks me up to think of it.
