Move over, Jon & Kate: It's Octomom Plus 14

It’s now official: “Octomom” Nadya Suleman has signed a deal to star in a reality TV series. And just in case you want more, there’s also talk of a book deal.

3Ball Productions, the production company that gave us “The Biggest Loser” and “Beauty and the Geek,” hasn’t so far sold the show to a network, although we assume it’s only a matter of time. Octomom’s show would be modeled after a successful series in Denmark that documents the lives of four children from the day they were born until they become adults.

“They came up with this idea, presented it to her and she liked it because she'll get to use a camera and do some of the filming herself," Suleman’s attorney, Jeff Czech, says.

He said film crews will not follow Suleman and her 14 children – the octuplets plus her six other kids -- 24 hours a day, but will document certain milestones such as birthdays and special events.

"It'll be less intrusive than a reality TV type of program," Czech says.

Not that television was any good to begin with...I hope year in and year out that it doesn't suck and...surprise, it does! That this kind of horseshit makes it to the idiot box doesn't surprise me following such nonsense as The Simple Life, The Hills, Flavor of Love, etc.

Who cares? It's a goddamn tv show. It's on television. The sole purpose of television is to sell advertising space and provide some distraction. The overwhelming majority of shows in the entirety of television history are crap that has no merits. Talk shows have no merits. Entertainment interview shows have no merits. Soaps have no merits. Sitcoms have no merit. Reality shows have no merit. They are not conceived as some sort of artistic production, they are very ephimeral entertainment. This is why I am very confused as to why you seem to think tv sold out. What did it sell out, the integrity of Matlock? The intellectual merits of Johnny Carson? What?

Did people sit down to watch Seinfeld because they 'appreciated its merits' or something? What the fuck?

These days, most television churns out numerous amounts of the types of shows you just mentioned, at least Johnny Carson had some actual talent to entertain you with, even if they were glorified parlor tricks. These days, many shows have similar flavor, there isn't any real thought or entertainment in them any more. I'm not saying that TV should always be intellectually stimulating because that would take away the purpose of it, but shows such as these, these 'reality' shows, it's been done over and over again and there's nothing fresh to appreciate.

In saying that, I am not suggesting ALL shows are the same way, but in THIS case, what does it have to offer? What are the shows giving the watchers in terms of entertainment and wanting more?
