At long last some word on when we might be able to see Michael Dougherty's Trick 'r Treat ..., the horror anthology from Warner Bros. that has been fighting for a release for quite some time now. After hitting the road in July for a limited theatrical run, you'll finally be able to pick the film up at a retailer near you on either Blu-ray or DVD this October. Read on for the confirmed tour dates thus far (more to come, I hope!) and some other news...

Also arriving in September will be the soundtrack and DC/Wildstorm's new four-issue comic book based on the film that features four interwoven stories that occur on Halloween: An everyday high school principal has a secret life as a serial killer; a college virgin might have just met the one guy for her; a group of teenagers pull a mean prank; and a woman who loathes the night has to contend with her holiday-obsessed husband.

The TPB will arrive in stores in October.

Unfortuneitly I don't think I've seen this movie. The only Trick r Treat that comes to my mind is the cheesy one where a teen ("Skippy" from Family Ties) plays a vinyl heavy metal record backwards and resurrects a dead and evil/devil worshipping rock star.

Sammi Curr rulessssss.

I once was in a used video store, and I bought Trick or Treat. The man behind the counter ringing me out was this dirty old dude with long metal hair and this gross beard. He told me the name of his old band was the Disciples of Sammi Curr, how sweet is that?

Toronto After Dark! Yes!

Are tickets for that hard to come by? I'm guessing it's not like just any regular movie ticket.

I'm from Hamilton btw, so something that close I'd be up for, been waiting so long for this I'd be up for a lil' Journey.

Toronto After Dark is in August this year (instead of October in previous year). No announcements have been made for any films this year. Check out their website for more information etc.

If you've never been, it's a great genre festival. Something Toronto has been lacking for years :) I've been every year.

The ad.

What bothers me is that the DVD release is so lacking in extras. There's no reason for that.

Hey, does anyone know if the U.S. BluRay is region free? Cause I've heard that most Warner Bros. BR's are but I was wondering if it will be the same for this one too.

Save your cash.

Very, very disappointing film.

Loved the cinematography, but this is just a glossy American horror with no scares and no atmosphere.

Bland.

Glossy American horror? This is probably the most refreshing/original horror to come out of a major American studio in a while. It wasn't a great movie but I thought it was really entertaining.

Ah, you say that about everything.

It's just a mash-up of old tales with fancy editing and nice cinematography.

Paquin looked oddly pretty, though. It was the first time I have thought the gap in her teeth was useful for hailing a cab after a date.

However, I will concede that the anticipation was probably too great and the film collapsed under the weight of my expectations.

You make good editing and cinematography sound like a bad thing.

Yeah this was a bad movie. I didn't really have expectations for it, but in the end it was just very dull. Wasn't funny, wasn't sexy, wasn't scary. It was just bland.

I really don't. I make it sound like two of the very few attributes this movie has.

And if good editing and nice cinematography are all you have to recommend a horror film, or any film, then there is something rotten in the state of Denmark.

I thought the early scenes with Dylan Baker were wicked fun but then the movie goes downhill fast with one eye rolling inducing moment after another.

Basically the movie begins as a real treat but that ends up being a trick.

Dylan Baker was great. The normally solid Brian Cox...not so much.

The girl - the one who told the bus massacre story - she was quite good.

My local video rental store had this out today, not sure why, but I did pick it up. I enjoyed it a lot. I felt it had a lot of that Halloween atmosphere. Was it scary? Not at all. But, it was a fun Halloween flick that I will watch for years to come. Was it overhyped? Yes, and as we know, hype is never a good thing.

I do plan to pick this up on Blu Ray, my store only had the DVD. This will give a better quality picture, and I hope it adds more to the look.

It was one of the better horror movies I have seen in a while. I would rank this above both of the Rob Zombie Halloween movies, and most of the Saw movies. I would have loved to see this in the theaters rather than on my 52 inch Plasma, but what can you do?

Yeah agreed. I actually saw this at the After Dark Fest in Toronto a month or two ago and it was so disappointing that I couldn't even work up the motive to do a write-up on it. Dougherty was there as was the cinematographer but we didn't bother staying for the Q&A. The people at After Dark ate it up as did some of our friends but my roommate and I both thought Warner was completely justified in deciding not to release this in theatres.

I JUST watched this and was INCREDIBLY disappointed. :( It saddens me more than anything because I waited years to see this and bought into the hype and as much as I WANTED to like it, I just couldn't. It wasn't a terrible film or anything, and I loved the atmosphere and how the film carried a true feeling of Halloween. However, it just felt like random ideas thrown everywhere that I wish had been explored a bit more. There were a few jump scares that got me, but meh...I just really don't know what to say except "bummer." :(

By the way, it was great to see both Reggie and Dolores from the Dead Like Me series in this film!

I saw the bootleg for that. Its baaaaaaaaaaad. Right after watching it I set out to watch Heathers because that's basically what the movie was trying to be at the twist ending. Very undeveloped writing.

I am dieing to see this movie and went to my local blockbuster this morning to get it because you think they would have it on sale right? I was dead Wrong; they had like 5 copies to rent and the guy told me that they did not have any copies for sale. Even better the moron asked what type of movie it was.....dude the title of the movie is "Trick 'r Treat", do you seriously not know what type of movie or genre the movie is after I say the title of the movie.

In other words I was pissed, because in my opinion they should at least have one or two copies for sale if they have it to rent. I mean I know it wasn't a big movie but c'mon its freaking Blockbuster!!!!!!

By the way, they also didn't have "Assassination of a High School President" or "Dark Country" to buy either just to rent. Well, they didn't even have "Dark Country" to rent. Fucking weird ass shit this blockbuster of mine. I was really let down at the selection today at my local blockbuster.

I did however, purchase "Year One". Can't wait to watch it.

Buy this movie right now. Or rent it. It's freakin' phenomenal and lives up to every bit of hype it's gained, as I mentioned in it's thread in the horror section. A true masterpiece that has just further proven how much this year has rocked for the genre. :D

I've gotta say this movie was pretty god damned good, and the best Halloween movie I've seen in a long time. It perfectly captures the mood and atmosphere of the season, and throughout most of it's run time evokes the spirit of the season as I experienced it as a child. SPOILERS!SPOILERS!SPOILERS!

The only reason I can see why WB wouldn't release it is they may have felt uncomfortable with the horrible ways children die throughout. They're still pussies for not releasing it, but I can at least somewhat understand.

END SPOILERS!

Either way, I'd say this lives up to the hype, just don't go in expecting to be scared out of your mind. This is more of a light spookfest with a hell of a mean streak, and is going alongside Halloween, the original Dawn Of The Dead, Hocus Pocus, and It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown, on my list of movies I have to watch every year.

8/10, though it may go up on repeat viewings.
