I'm new too blu-ray. I have some questions

first of all.

What is difference between PCM 5.1 audio & truehd audio. which is better or is DTS audio still the best.

I have a movie(40 year old virgin)that size it's widescreen but it's covering my whole tv like it's a fullscreen movie w/o me changing the ratio myself. The Dark Knight does these for those scenes filmed in imax.

What are the best movies to upgrade. I don't wanna upgrade my whole dvd collection. that would be to costly

Thanks for the help

1. First up, it's Blu-ray, not Blue ray.

2. Audio. Check out this link to read up on all ALL things technical when it comes to HD: HD Advisor (http://www.highdefdigest.com/hdadvisor.html)

That should answer all your questions, as it covers practically everything! :)

3. Become familiar and educate yourself on the term ASPECT RATIO. The 40-Year-Old Virgin is presented in 1.85:1, so (I assume you have a widescreen TV) yes it doesn't appear that there are "black bars" on your TV (although there are - just very small). The aspect ratio of widescreen television is 1.78:1.

With The Dark Knight, the film's aspect ratio is 2.35:1 - however the Blu-ray disc includes four (think it's four) scenes that were shot using IMAX cameras. Hence why it "fills" your screen - then goes back to 2.35:1. You'll then notice the black bars on the top and bottom of your screen. This is normal.

4. You certainly don't have to upgrade your whole DVD collection (although the studios would love that). It's really up to you and your wallet, and more importantly your taste. I'm currently upgrading my favourite films to Blu-ray (when available) and carefully revisiting catalogue titles based on reviews and pricing (sorry but pricing is too expensive for catalogue titles - unless of course, the film happens to be a favourite of mine). Another question to ask yourself is: Great, ______ is coming to BR, but does it warrant an upgrade to BR?

There's absolutely nothing wrong with the DVD format and it's here to stay. It's the new "VHS"...

Hope that helps you.
