I am sure a lot of you have heard the rumor that Harvey Weinstein wants to cut 40 minutes of Inglorious Basterds to make it more "audience friendly".

http://thefilmstage.com/2009/06/09/weinstein-wants-40-minutes-cut-from%20-inglourious-basterds/

If this is true and God forbid if it actually happens...I will fuckin shit a brick.

I am so sick of the Weinsteins constantly putting money ahead of art. It pisses me off to no end. These fat greedy slobs fucked over fans of Grindhouse by splitting the film into two when it hit DVD.

I don't know the truth about that, but the scum have been know to destroy films.

oh yeah, American audiences really want to see a 3 hour film about Nazi killing. I mean, when Paul Blart Mall Cop is the number one movie for like 4 weeks in January - Feb. The audience doesn't appreciate the art.

Pitt's last film (Benjamin Button) was nearly 3 hours long and it was boxoffice smash in the States so I think the Weinsteins should just relax. Basterds is gonna do really well IMO.

I know the Weinsteins are feelin the heat because their company is on the verge of going completely underwater but they need to let QT do his own thing.

I agree with you for the most part.

There is a difference. I don't recall Benj Button getting the mixed reviews Basterd's has been getting. Perhaps a shorter movie with some excess cut out will be a better and more enjoyable movie. The Weinsteins need to do what they can do to make money and keep their company going. They give us many good movies and I trust them. Not that they are always right, but often enough that we should give them the benefit of doubt.

God i hope he does not i will be livid:mad:

I can see trimming a few things here in there, but 40 minutes?!!

To me, new Tarantino movies are a rare event, so why cut it down? I wanna IB in all its glory(no pun intended)!

I completely 100% agree with your rant, If people don't like it because its too much time spent talking then why are they at a Tarantino movie?
Of course the marketing IMO is a bit backwards for this one, a lot of people will be going to see it for:
Brad Pitt (not even half the movie is Pitt)
it's a WWII movie (not really, its completely fiction)
Action/Gore: Sure there is a bit, but also expect lengthy scenes of dialogue in between.

If this does happen, i hope their will be at least be the Director's Cut DVD

I wonder how QT feels about this, as this is pretty disrespectful

Why does QT still bother with these guys? Does he feel he has some sort of life debt to them since they gave him his big break? They're not the same guys they were back then...hence going from producing small, quirky indies to bloated, self-important, emotionally sterile Oscar bait movies. "The English Patient" was the beginning of the end for them. Their wanting to cut "Kill Bill" into 2 parts should've been a red flag for him. Abandon ship, Quentin, before you go down with it! :(

I've hated them even before the Basterds madness. They started off well with a solid line-up of flicks, but their output has grown more and more mediocre with every year (with the scant gem like Grindhouse or 1408 popping up every once in a while). It all comes down to them doing an absolute hatchet job with their marketing, then blaming everyone else but themselves when the movies fail. It's sad when you have no idea of something as basic as the freakin' release date of your own movie. I remember that they were still shifting around the Pulse date until the week it opened, and The Last Legion showed up out of nowhere. Both were hardly successes, but, of course, the Weinsteins are totally blameless.

The Weinsteins shoulnd't even be in the business. It's clear that ever since they broke off from Mirramax they don't know what the fuck they are doing.

It's linked to other stories regarding the meltdown and potential cutting of Inglorious Basterds.

Me? Let them sink. The things they've done to movies over the past years (Grindhouse, Killshot, etc...) The fact that they want to cut IG by 40 minutes is terrible as well.

I like the sunrise/sunset of the Quentin/Weinstein relationship.

Harvey descirbed Miramax as, 'the house that Quentin built'; it seems fitting, therefore, that Tarantino should be the one to end them if they fuck with his vision one more time.

A few examples

-poor marketing of kick ass movies (Zack and Miri Make a Porno, Grindhouse)

-The pathetic excuse of Dimension Extreme DVD horror/action line. Give me a &^(%!^@ break. Most of them suck.

-Making a deal with Dragon Dynasty to make DVD profit off of bad ass Hong Kong films. (Make your own movies Weinsteins instead of leeching off of the Hong Kong greats)

I can appreciate what you are saying, but you are dreaming if you think this film is going to be a hit. With the Weinstein's having huge financial problems and IB getting so many mixed reviews, they are trying to make the movie as audience appealing (Joe Public - not you) as possible.

In all actuality if Quentin had made IB a non stop action war movie as opposed to dialogue heavy and few action scenes, the film may have had a chance at doing well. I guess Stallone is making that movie

Without the long arm of financing from Miramax and most importantly, Disney, they really don't know what they're doing. Somewhere out there, Spielberg and a million others are grinning ear to ear if the Weinsteins are ever run out of business. Hopefully Tarantino won't be brought down in that Hindenburg

If they were greedy there wouldn't be any problem getting their movies out there.

Problem is they actually have delusions of appreciating art. They want their movies to be critical as well as commercial successes. And if it bombs, that's okay so long as it gets an Oscar nod.

It's pride that hurts these guys. And because they are running a studio, and need to make money, they gotta make compromises.

"Pretty please, will you cut your movie just a little. I'm sure it won't hurt the final product a bit. But we're afraid we might not fill seats. And since this is our big tentpole movie, we gotta fill the fucking seats. Never mind we blew the last six opportunities to capitalize on our movies, and spent all our money on winning Kate that damn Oscar. We need some cash right fucking now. So, down on our knees, think you can make those cuts?"

The Weinsteins are the biggest whores in Hollywood. Anything that makes their lives miserable, I approve of.

But, you know, Tarantino is more and more ridiculously self-indulgent. Still, I'd rather see the film cut for that rather than for commercial purposes.

After watching the extended cut of Death Proof, I whole heartedly agree that Inglorious BastErds needs to be trimmed down.

Preferably by about 3 hours or so.

The reason why that it had such sucess in the box office because it was released during the holiday season, and had Pitt in it.

This movie might have a tough time because it's being released in August when moviegoers are suffering from Summer movie hangovers.

Yeah thats very true.

I will be rooting for it to do well but if the Weinsteins do in fact cut a lot of it...fuck them cause I then would hope it backfires on them and bombs.

This film won't do well, Sure it has Mr.Pitt in it, but I still see it bombing hard. Especially for the reasons ED allready stated.

They're probably the only ones who will financially back him. QT's last few movies have been niche films with limited appeal (acquired tastes), and IG seems to be of that mold.

Okay, in relation to Inglorious Basterds, when a movie has a lot of drama surround ing its release that's usually bad. QT's coming off of a relative failure, and his new movie is virgin territory and he doesn't have a really exciting cast. Should've petitioned Adam Sandler and kept a spot for Michael Madsen at least (I remember when he was working, Madsen was listed as the only actor, now I don't think he's even in it). Fans are shaken by Death Proof, and critics are disappointed there's not enough action.

I'm still interested, if there is so much damn dialogue, and this being the height of WWII, what kind of conversations these boys gonna be having? I'm still game to see this thing though.
